    I also had abdominal hysterectomy, one week ago, for fibroids similar size (measuring full term pregnancy) and they gave me an epidural in addition to anesthesia which I think helped A LOT with the pain. I wish they had done that for you, so sorry you had to go through that!
    They did a vertical incision. Recovery has been up and down, pretty painful getting in and out of bed. Thanks for making the video. This is intense!

    Thank you for the heads up of your experience with removal of large fibroid. I am a little over week to having large uterine mass (15cm) removed. The gyno oncologist I am going through still isn't 100% if I have a fibroid or cancer, but they will be testing during the operation to confirm. She suspects I have cancer, so I (like you) am having open abdominal hysterectomy. I am already panicked before I saw your video, but you have helped me prepare and stay on top of the nurses and doctors for post op pain management.

    I'm almost a week in myself after the abdominal route. Getting up and down is the worst right now. I woke up from anesthesia and couldn't stay awake pretty much the rest of the day. Same thing for a massive fibroid. I feel your pain.

    I have 3 cesarean, rupture fallopian tube and an hysterectomy so I can imagine your pain. I had my surgeries 20 years ago. So I had not a lot of pain medicine because I am a black woman my doctor was worried about me getting addicted to pain medication… I am sorry glad you are okay with all the things you are dealing with.

      I'm sorry that happened to you. I'm so tired of hearing stories. Many doctors still believe we don't really feel much pain, which is another reason they undermedicate our pain.

      Same thing happened to me with my first laproscopic partial hysterectomy. I was FURIOUS. this time, i have a new doctor and i have to have an abdominal hysterectomy due to tumors and cysts . I told her about what happened and made sure to tell her to give me enough medication. Unbelievable to think we're sub human .I hate the way they treat us as BW

    It’s so sorry listening to your story! And I appreciate your video. I’m 3 days post open abdominal hysterectomy for fibroids. Yeah, the IV site is still tender. And I also woke up in pain in ICU with other women, and the nurse was shushing me so I wouldn’t disturb them. She said I had the max she could give me so she offered me a suppository. At some point a doctor came to check on everyone and I saw the nurse talking to him about me. He looked at my chart and said MORE. I got morphine, too. I got oxygen at the same time and my skin itched all over. It helped a lot right after, but I was glad to be off it the next day.
    YES, self advocate! That nurse expected me to suffer and used the other patients to shame me. 🤬
    But now, just 3 days later I’m down to tolerable pain. I’m able to eat real food at home, so bowels are moving at last. That’s so important for feeling well again. I’m glad I decided not to take more opioids because I heard they constipate. Your story validates my decision. Thanks for the brutal honesty. Really hope to watch more and see your recovery. Bless.

    My surgery is scheduled 9/11, my doctor uses general anesthesia, a spinal nerve block and injectcts the abdominal and uterine region with pain meds. I'm still terrified even though he does single port incision surgery, I couldn't skip over your video, i hope you're feeling better!!

    I’m getting my surgery in a few weeks. I had to watch because I feel that it’s good to know the good the bad and the ugly .. I had 3 c sections in the pass so I’m hoping I can handle the recovery well .. they are planning a robotic surgery for me I’m hoping it’s not as bad as a c section. Thank you for sharing your experience 💛

    I have a hysterectomy booked next week, I’ve had a c section scar from a removal of a large cyst so they’re cutting belly button down to remove the scar tissue and then it’s radical and I have endo that has adhered my womb to my bowel so extra surgery. It’s not going to be an easy run at all. Wishing you the best health

    I am almost one week post op from a laparoscopic and vaginally assisted hysterectomy. My uterus was 3x it’s regular size with fibroids. They cut it into 3 pieces. I had my cervix removed, fallopian tubes and uterus. Everything went great! It took me over 9 hours to come out of the anesthesia. I felt no pain. I had extra antibiotics due to possible contamination from cutting during surgery. I had a transfusion from blood loss. Binder helps greatly. No gas. No issues with bowel movements. I agree the hospital bed was a torture device.

    How are you now? I had a hysterectomy 4 days ago (due to cervical cancer) and they also found I had endometriosis during surgery which I also had a suspicion beforehand too. Waking up was horrible! Not only did I have abdo pain and nausea, but my throat was SO sore due to being intubated. AND my eyelids were bleeding because when they took the tape off my eyes, they ripped off skin 😬 still in pain..eyelids hurt when I blink and my throat still hurts! I’m coughing up phlegm from my lungs. I hope I’m better at the week mark!

    glad your ok now. my situation is i got fobroids but my stomach inst that huge.(yet) but im opting for a partial lapro hystorectomy with my surgeon. also because i am trans ftm and dont want this organ in me. im anxious not gonna lie. the fibroids symptoms have made my life hell these last 5 months. so it was an easy decision for me anyway.
    even though lapro /robotic hysto is supposedly less downtime i dont think itll be easier. surgeries are always mentally and physically draining regardelss.

      Can I ask which hysterectomy procedure did you have? I’m having an abdominal one Wednesday March 6th. I believe mines will be this way. I do not feel like I will be in pain like everyone’s explains theirs. My mind is normally very good. I try to stay in a great positive mindset. I truly feel for those who have had that bad experience. I really can’t wait to get my uterus out and the fibroids gone.

    I had had full hysterectomy when i was 34.. . Endometriosis, fibroid tumours and cysts and I didn't experience the pain that you're describing. I was at the Mall a week post op. and your constipation was caused by the type of meds you're taking, which weren't even available 30 yrs ago for pain.. you need to be up and around more to help stop that gas. That breathing device you're using. You only have to do that for first night, maybe into second.. BS on the showering if you're a week post op..they actually tell you bathe in bathtub but not to use bath salts as they can open the wound.. I think you're causing a lot of unneeded fear for people who need this surgery. It's not as bad as she is saying people! I'm 30 yrs post op! Like I said, 1 week and I was at the Mall! Had to stop a few times at the benches for a spell but all was ok.. Go into surgery with a good mindset and you'll come out same way. Stay positive and you'll heal a lot faster. My dear if getting the IV put in was your worst part then you certainly didn't need narcotics for pain🤦🏼‍♀️

      So because her experience is different than yours, that makes it untrue? And doctors specifically say minimum two weeks bed rest and only showers (not baths) for weeks afterwards. Your advice is either outdated or irrelevant for her situation.

    • @lovebug1180
      @lovebug1180 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Everyone's surgery and healing experience is different. She did mention having so many issues so I'm pretty sure that explains the pain. Fibroids being so huge she had to get a huge cut across her tummy and such so yeah.

    • @OutontheTrails
      @OutontheTrails 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      That’s great that your experience was a positive one but not all surgeries come out ideally even if they’re due to “simple” issues vs multiple complex problems. Post op nurse here 🙋🏻‍♀️ and I recover a ton of hysterectomy patients. Every person is different and every surgery is different. Saying something to the effect that having a positive attitude before will lead to a positive outcome is false and hugely ignorant. Of course you want to have a positive attitude before but that’s no guarantee of the outcome.
      I don’t know a single doctor that will tell you to soak under water when you have a fresh surgical incision. That is setting yourself up for infection. A lot of improvements have occurred in 30 years since your surgery.
      She did say at the beginning of the video that this is going to be about a very difficult post op experience and if a person is looking for a positive outcome, this video was not it.
      Stop shaming her!

    I’m sorry, but your doctors are jerks. Why didn’t they give you something for the pain before you woke up. Also, you had to wait an entire weekend for an answer at one point? I would have had the on -call doctor answer me ASAP and summons my doctor!
