    I'm thinking CDI and possible carb rebuild, going back to Sue's ER5 didn't you upgrade something with the fuel system? I've not tracked back but was curious to think it could need the same as I think hers wasn't running right to begin with... it screams fuel I think but be interested to see what it is when it's solved! Great video Charlie!

      Its so annoying cause I'm going back and forward in my head. So I cleaned the carbs including the float valves but didn't check the float heights which is a rookie error. Although it's easy to pop them of and check again. I don't think they need a rebuild but i will do one.
      I've got float height in my head, cdi or bent valve/valves

    Compression check on boths cylinders to make sure the engine is sound mechanically

    • @motorcyclerescuer
      @motorcyclerescuer  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes thats the next step.
      I'm thinking it's a badly timed spark from the cdi, but will check compression as I'm also thinking bent/sticky valve

  • @just4kicks950

    Wish I knew the answer Charlie, possibly carb issues & as far as timing, I steer clear unless it's a single cylinder engine. Good luck with the bike my friend 🤞Salute 🛵😎

      I'm sure the carbs are OK but may rebuild them anyway. Someone gas suggest cdi. So may look into that. Sadly it cost .only trying all these but that's the way I guess.

    Possibly cdi but, logically, I would start with a carb rebuild. Both side spark and, if they have compression, it would point towards fuel and air I think.

    • @motorcyclerescuer
      @motorcyclerescuer  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Compression check next then I think.
      I was going towards a badly timed spark issue so cdi problem, but be nuts not to check the compression.

  • @lancashirebiker6200
    @lancashirebiker6200 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I would do a compression test you may have bent valves due to setting the valve timing incorrectly.

    • @motorcyclerescuer
      @motorcyclerescuer  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes thats my thoughts aswell.
      Compression check will be next.
      It kinda has the symptoms of a bent valve because it kinda spits back into the carb which could indicate a open valve at the wrong time.

    • @motorcyclerescuer
      @motorcyclerescuer  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I set the clearances by rotating the lobe so it was 180 away from the plate. Its quicker and easier. They should be set correctly and the timing is spot on.
      In my head I'm thinking badly timed spark because of cdi? Or sticky valve?

    • @motorcyclerescuer

      I was wondering that but its a lumpy engine anyway even with that in place. It had these symptoms when it was all in place.

    • @motorcyclerescuer
      @motorcyclerescuer  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Rob, the intermittent spark issue?
      I think in the end it was a dud spark plug. Possibly a fake or broken one.
      I had tried everything else by then so it was the last resort and i was dead set that they were OK because they were new. But lots of fakes out there now days.

    • @motorcyclerescuer
      @motorcyclerescuer  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It sounds like it's not running well then. Not necessarily spark related, it could be carb related etc. Check your intake boots for splits as it could be letting in to much air

      @@motorcyclerescuer thanks for your reply, its a long story, just replaced inlet valves because they where bent, it runs great without load, next step to do compression test if that’s ok recheck valve timing but I was very careful when I put the head on!

  • @IPCRo
    @IPCRo 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Did the same for my gpz 500s (same engine) and it could be the spark plug problem. On mine I can't put it to "C" as it would not turn all the way (probably hitting a valve) and I put on "T".
