- I like the song & my dog, Jake, is really photogenic, so I made this video.
Thanks to all who have posted positive comments regarding Jake or the music. They are much appreciated.
For those of you who asked, we had Jake euthanized on September 13, 2019. He was 1 month shy of being 14 years old and his health and mobility had deteriorated to the point that we felt we had no other choice. It was very difficult for us but we were somewhat consoled by the peaceful way he left us. Part of having a dog is the understanding that you're going to outlive him/her, and that saying goodby is inevitable. I'm still sad every time I relive the moment, but I'm also so glad to have the memories of his life with us. He was a really great dog!
In March, 2020, we adopted Buddy from a rescue shelter. He's now a 3 year old Walker Hound mix and about 15 lbs. smaller than Jake, and he's turned out to be a really great dog - walking in the footsteps of a legend. At some point, I'll have a creative moment and post a video of him as well.

I rescued an 8 yr old lab/Dane mix 2 yrs ago. His people abandoned him after having him since he was a pup. He’s old and gray, but he is our baby, our boy. He’s 10 now, and he is a happy old fella. He is a sweetheart, and I don’t know how anyone could have left him. He is LOVED. ❤️

This song used to make me cry and miss having a dog so bad. But I wasn't going to take on an animal I couldn't afford. I had a best friend who was terminally ill and I had known her for 28 years asked me if I wanted her girls when she passed away, and September 18th I adopted her two lil girls and October third she earned her wings. I do absolutely everything I can for my two dogs now. They'd been my best friends as her dogs for 8 years, and now are my whole heart, now they're mine

I had a lady friend in Connecticut who had a dog named Jake. She left him with me in Florida for a few months. When she came back to stay with me for a little while, their reunion was great!

If dogs don't go to Heaven, I don't think I want to go there either. I've been owned by six different dogs through out my life and I still cry over each one when I think about them! My last two, Smoochie and Daisy are still alive and well and may very well outlive me. Dogs are beyond any doubt the finest animals ever placed on Earth by God!
Bind them to you in Heaven. It's in the Bible. "That which is bound on earth will be in heaven". I've got 3 horses and 2 dogs waiting to meet me at the Pearly Gates with Abraham, David and Billy. I miss them all so very much. Going on decades since I've seen them.

I've done lost 8 dogs and a baby pig I taught my pig to give kisses and he did every night before he went to bed he was 9 months old he had dippety which is common in pigs
I got a Chihuahua I've had her since 2015. I went to jail got out she was at the house she won't leave my side I got PTSD bipolar shisoefective disorder she's my gaudine angel she always has to come to bed with me and my wife she saved my life twice when I tried to kill myself

I grew up with my grandmother telling us that people, and by extension animals, die twice. Once when they actually pass from this world and again when nobody speaks their name anymore. We, as family, have always been sure to talk about those gone so that they live on if only until we ourselves are gone. But by speaking of them the next generation knows of them and talks about them. Case in point, my Corgi, Gunner, passed away in 2007 but my great-nephew, who is 8 years old, will mention Gunner when he sees a Corgi in real life or on TV. So my sweet Gunny Boy lives still.
THIS makes me think of how much i love my dog, especially the late I miss him and this song almost makes me come to tears.. THANK YOU..

My dog Jake lived to be almost 16 years old. He had arthritis and one day he just wouldn't get up and he quit eating. His health deteriorated fast and he had to be put to sleep hardest thing I had to do I sure do miss him.

I had a Siberian chow/lion chow cross named Russell, but we called him rusty. He was almost 20 years old. He got cancer on his spine, but did fine for a couple years. Then he had a stroke and heart attack at the same time during the night. I begged to let him see if he could pull through like he had so many times before. My parents agreed, then put him to sleep while I was at work. They didn't even let me be there for him, or say goodbye. To add even greater insult they just left him there at the vet's office. I didn't even get to lay him to rest.
My point is I know what it is like to have to lose your child/best friend/ brother. I'm sorry for your loss.

Had a mix Redbone and Black and Tan named Red for 13 years he was the best friend I ever had in this life except Mom and Dad I can't wait to see him again someday in heaven he was a great boy we were together through alcoholism and cocaine addiction he never stopped loving me or turned on me like many people did I've got a bunch of 4 legged friends waiting for me along with Mom and Dad

One of my favorite songs growing up. I remember after mom and dad got divorced when I was 6 years old and I worshipped the ground my dad walked on but he was heart broke and couldn't take the pain of losing mom me my sister and little brother. So he disappeared from Ohio and I didn't hear from until Christmas morning 2 years later and to a kid that lived his daddy the way I did I couldn't of gotten a better Christmas present than my daddy showing Christmas morning. So we started the relationship back with Dad who came with his new girlfriend which is who he's been married to up to this day and I'm 39 now. He took off to North Carolina after him and my mom's divorce. To this day I've always loved my step mom and couldn't imagine dad with anybody else. I believe the good Lord makes somebody for everyone and he made Sandy for my dad. She's worshipped the ground that man walks on and he does the same with her. Her and my mom have away gotten song great. So anyway dad lived in Indiana and after dad showing mom that he was back for good and never leaving mine and sister and brothers lives again mom let us start spending as much time at his house as we wanted to. Never went thru court and let them decide what they felt was right for us to go see him. So it was the following when we got to go spend 2 weeks out at dads for the first time. Dad was in the military when I was born and to this day he has always got up in the morning with the chickens. It was the first morning I stayed there and I woke up to the smell of my step mom cooking breakfast and coffee brewing and this was the song playing on dad's tv on cmt. That morning at 8 years old is what started my love affair with real country music and to this day it's all I'll listen to. I'm not talking about this fake country music they play on the radio thee days. I won't listen to any of that garbage unless it's Chris Stapleton or Jamey Johnson. That's one of my best childhood memories after my dad came back and just like he said he ain't ever left us again. Some might think him leaving us was a shitty thing to do and it tore me up as a kid but him coming back was more than enough to clean the slate with me. Everybody makes mistakes in life but way back then I learned it's what you learn from those mistakes that defines the person you are. I love my dad and step mom more than I can say just like I love my mom with the only difference being I've always know my mom wouldn't leave us kids and did everything she could of possibly given to make sure we was taken care of growing up. I couldn't of asked the Lord above for better parents and there ain't a day in my life that I wasn't thankful for the ones he gave me. What's really ironic is my dad has a beagle rabbit dog that goes everywhere my dad goes. He eats everything my dad eats. He sleeps right next to my dad every night and his name is Jake. My dad has had many dogs in my life but the only other match made in heaven besides my dad and Jake is my dad and step mom Sandi. So If my dad dies before he wakes he can damn well rest assured that Ill Feed Jake.

Nothing like the love between a dog and his/her owner. I have to daschunds and they are over the hill and now 12. I'm blessed to still have them in my life. Crushes my heart to know that they wont be here someday, but the joy and love they bring to my life has never been equaled. They are my children - brother and sister. Unconditional love. Strange how dogs pick their owners as if God put them on this planet just for you and only you. I'm a better person because of them. We've been through a lot. So many stories. We should all tell them. One of the best fiction stories of all time is Where the Red Fern Grows. Read it...by Wilson Rawls. If there is a heaven, I don't want to be there without my dogs. I don't know what I would do without them and it haunts my dreams. Great song and great tribute. Hug your dog today, take pictures, because they are a blessing for those that truly love them and they are here for a short while. They ask so little of us and give so much. Days you don't feel like walking them, do it anyway because some day you are going to miss that walk and sing a song much like this.

I know the feeling.I carried my Mom's Scottie in for her last vet's visit.I was alright getting into the building but when they called us to the back room,I stood up and could not make my legs move at all.
They had to pry her from my arms to make the move.

Once a month or so I watch this video in remembrance of my soul mate Roxy. I searched 30 years to find her. She was a descendant of ole Dan and Lil Ann from where the red fern grows movie from 1974. I saved up from the time I was four until I finally got her. I miss her more than anything could express. It has been two years since she passed and I still bawl like a baby, all I wanna do is set with her in my lap one more time watching where the red fern grows, or chase one last trash panda. Just five more minutes. I would give nearly anything for just one last time to play with her ears. My bloodhound helps some, but she is not Roxy she is Annie.

I like the song, I never found out who sang it and I enjoyed this video you posted of him. I had to escort my best friend across the Rainbow Bridge in 2013, now it's April 8th. 2024 and I'm still missing "Max" and I'm 74 years old and still afraid to get another best friend, Dang it, that hurt to let him go but it was time for him too. Jake, my brother best friend and pet I lost almost 2 years ago. He was a very gentle chocolate lab that I miss sleeping next to every night. I still have his brother Charlie whom is quite the same. Time will go on, but I’ll probably never get that same feeling again.

This song is absolutely amazing! We had to send my Jake to heaven 1/18/21😢. He was a 9yr old Black Lab/ Retreaver! I miss him everyday. My adult, live-in-daughter and I suddenly lost our "Jake" (named Snoopypoo) a 15 year old Chiweenie, on January 31, 2024. We knew Snoopy was getting old, had developed cataracts, but still was a fine looking, very sharp, very protective and loving little buddy , and my constant companion in retirement. We cried for days and nights afterwards. This morning I listened to this song, cried some more. There is NO "GETTING OVER" the doggie or cat love of your life, folks. You get another dog (we couldn't even go a full week without another) and you go on. That's all you can do. You go on. Let me tell you, though, that both my daughter and I are spiritual sensitives. I've had outrageously incredible and more subtle spirit interactions my entire life. Since he left, Snoopypoo has come back to lay on my pillow with me, for a few seconds. Since he left, I caught a fleeting glimpse of Snoopypoo gazing up at me from his favorite chair. A little while ago and for the first time since he left, I used my bed, instead of couch, to catch a quick nap, which I did frequently with him under teh covers. For the first time since he left, I awoke to feel Snoopypoo moving under the covers and going back to sleep. I trust that, the God who took our Snoopy without explaining WHY it was necessary to TAKE HIM, when he was SO LOVED and NEEDED, will alllow Snoopypoo to continue to visit us, and to run back to me, at the moment of my death, to lead me to the Heaven I know he is enjoying, with untold millions of other loved dogs, cats, horses, and the like. Two parting thoughts:"It is better to have loved and lost, than never to have loved at all." and "Tears are words the heart can't say".

It makes me miss my dog Bandit who always protected me and my kids. May 3rd tornado had cut his neck almost all around but he was still alive. The vet fixed him up then we lost him a week later. He was 15 yrs old. Missing him alot haven't had a dog since him.
I'm so blessed to have my dogs they are my family and my children I don't have any family to be in my life anymore but I have my babies and I don't need anyone else I have the best friends in my life and they are all I need to be loved and appreciated by them is all that matters and I will always love them and protect them from any danger or pain that is around and they will always be there for me and I am blessed to have them in my life and world

I just ran across the beautiful tribute to your dog Jake. My heart goes our to you. I always loved this song. We lost our 16 1/2 year old black lab/springer mix back in March 2019 in similar circumstances. The day before we had to put him down we took him for a ride to all his favorite places, our lake cottage, farm, etc. even though I had to carry him some to help him thru the snow. Our vet came to our house to euthanize Kobe as he was terribly afraid of the vets office. Needless to say it broke our hearts right in two. One year later we got a Reg black lab from our nephew and she has been a joy. But nothing could ever replace Kobe.
