A great tip for white borders is to use the back of other ones. I like to use not so cute ones I found on clearance for the plain backs.

I am a first year teacher and just started setting up my room last week. My colors are black and white with hints of light pink and rose. I bought a TpT bundle with those colors. I’m loving your videos. They are really inspiring me to get everything set up!
I’m a veteran teacher, 35th year this year, and my room is tropical for sixth grade ELA. Bright pink, green, toucans, pineapples, etc..I love color! I also change my room each season or holiday- fall sunflowers, Christmas, winter snow, Valentines Day, St.Patty’s Day, and then spring.
I’m starting my black and neon themed setup on Monday! So excited 😊

I’ve been watching set up videos and thought you might want to know that many, many teachers are using your influential people posters! Great job and the room looks great. Wonderful model of how to keep things neat, clean and not overwhelming. Everything you do is also practical and student-centered. Wonderful!
My room is a rainforest theme. Mostly green with 🌈 colors too, lots of black sterilite for organization, vine and animals hanging everywhere. Our school has a book theme and I chose, The Umbrella by Jan Brett. Looking forward to your next video.

5th year teacher here! My colors are purple and blue, but I've incorporated the Iridescent theme from Teacher Created Resources. I have been in my room 3 times, but I have only set up a few things because I am getting new furniture 😁 My teacher desk may not get here in time, so that makes me a little anxious but I can't wait to see it all come together!
A tip for future bulletin boards. You can color a new strip of staples with a sharpie before putting it in the stapler. Then they will already be the color you want them and you don’t have to go back through to color them individually. 🥰
My room has been pretty much ready since end of June! 😂 we moved to a new building this summer so we had to do ALL the things with ALL new everything. It was a lot of work but now I can focus on lessons and the finishing touches that need to happen! Love your color scheme so far!
Omg! The stapler not cooperating was so relatable! Haha, those weird half staple attempts can be so frustrating! 🤣
I love color so that is my room decor, color. The borders are called paint chip. I have various colorful canvases on my walls including two owls my son painted for my room about 15 years ago. Since it’s colorful it all works. I used a light blue better than paper backdrop to each BB to match the cabinets in my room and subdue the bright colors. You’re room is looking great!

Hello! I’m a 2nd year 5th grade teacher and I am going with a Cactus/Llama theme with some farmhouse decor mixed in this year and so excited for all of the bright colors 😄 I’m loving your videos and some of your ideas!
Get you a decent stapler! I love the one press ones. Also, my first day is Monday and that's when I'm allowed into my room. I took a few years off from teaching to be home with my preschooler. I'm doing rainbows in calm colors (not really boho), and neutral paper. I'm also having a living room area in my room. I'm teaching RTI for K-4.
Hi Kim, I enjoy watching your vlogs. I have always done fabric but what I do to avoid the wrinkles is to stretch the fabric and pull it really tight and it stays all year long many teachers ask me if I iron the fabric and I tell them the trick is to pull and staple
I'm sitting here wondering how long Bordette has been around because that was THE border about 40 years ago-- before cute prints became popular. As in most things in education (and fashion!), things come back into popularity (usually with a different name) 🤣
You can use zip ties around your desk so they don't move and are more table like. My first grade class is woodland themed.
Hi Kim! I really love the neutral colors you are using. They are so calming. The only thing I would change would be to have the white border under the kraft border. I find the white on top very bright. It's the first thing that catches my eye when you are in your room.
The battle I've waged with my stapler is an epic tale. I feel you on the "whyyy" lol
-I'm Preschool teacher that definitely went with a rainbow theme. It looks like a rainbow threw up everywhere lol. I've been in my room for a little over a week now, every other day mostly. I'm almost totally done setting up. I've got one more board (emotions) to do, and I've got to finish my "look who's in our class" board. After that I've just got to work on my curriculum and lesson plans and get everything copied and stashed away. In-service starts the 30th, and classes resume the 9th.

I just found your channel recently and I’m loving it!! I’ve just started getting my classroom set up too! Second year 3rd grade teacher, I’m doing a calm watercolor/ocean theme! Also a suggestion- you should trim the white border on the corners of your bulletin boards, then it isn’t sticking out over the brown!
I start setting up on Monday!!! The theme/colors I am going with is pastels and succulents. I had the same theme planned for last year, but I was a virtual teacher so it wasn't put into full effect. I am so excited to start setting up!
Your classroom is coming along great. I won’t be able to get into my second grade classroom until around August 20th, maybe a little before. We start back officially on August 30th with the kids coming back on Sept. 2nd. I’m changing themes this year from super heroes to a more just colorful theme. I really like bright colors. One question how do you organize your classroom library? Mine usually goes by AR level but I’d like to do it differently this year. I probably should have said at the start that I have been teaching for 25 years and this is my 13th year teaching second grade. I live in Massachusetts halfway between Boston and Cape Cod. Love your videos. You and Early Edventures are my favorites.

Border hack! : Use the back of another border you won’t use for white. Unless it’s double-sided, they usually are always white on the back! Just an idea, it’s helped me when I’ve need more in a pinch!

Starting on Monday!!! Got welcome back emails today. Hey! Do you think you could fold the fabric with the cutout for the socket in order to fit the small bulletin board? I only ask cuz it’s already cut for a socket and I’d hate that you’d have to buy more fabric just to cut another socket hole.
We can’t even get into our classrooms to set up until the first week in August, because summer school runs through the last week of July. I will have one week before staff officially start back. I am slightly freaking out at this point, because I know we will have lots of professional that week everyone starts back.

We are to set up when we go back to work. Also, I can't go anytime into the building like you do. Would be nice but we have to be out by a certain time during weekdays and you can't go in on weekdays because the alarm is on.

YESS! I’ve watched you and Shelly since I was in 11th Grade (your first year teaching)! Yay to possibly having table back! I’m also really loving the tan border this year beside the burlap and polka dots border! I’m so excited to see your mom back in your room and I’m also all about the back wood wall already. Lol! It’s just so pretty. Did the smallest bulletin board by your front door had the colorful smiley faces border? It looks so cute! I couldn’t really tell exactly what the border looked like.

I just accepted my first teaching position and was wondering if you had any advice and suggestions of things I will need my first year. I have tons of books already but nothing else. My mom is throwing me a "teacher shower" next weekend so I also need a list of things that people can donate.

So smart to have the students phone list next to the phone🤯 I don’t know how I haven’t thought about that before lol
It’s actually not for the kids to play with, actually yeah, for her for call the kids’ family, I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone call their family ever before! But I’ve seen people over the years have their extension sheet above or next to the phone.
@@aaronlanier haha oops yea I meant parents phone numbers lol 🤦🏾♀️ yes I have my school extension right next to my phone but it will definitely be beneficial to have parents numbers at an easy access for when I need to call home ☺️
My school never has had phones in the rooms. You either go to the office to use the phone or wait until your planning time to use the cell.
As a nanny not teacher here who loves these videos, I’m curious…why do you use fabric instead of paper or better than paper? Is it just easier? Also does your school reimburse you for all these things you buy to decorate?
I think it looks better than Better than Paper because it's matte and also it lasts a lot longer than just paper! It will last me the rest of my teaching career potentially, versus paper that I'd have to replace every 1-3 years. My school will reimburse me for any necessary materials (student supplies, manipulatives, etc.) or provide them outright, but if we choose to decorate our classrooms, we pay for that. We don't have to decorate our classrooms in the way I decorate mine. We are provided paper and could print out bulletin board borders at school. I choose to decorate my room so I don't mind paying for it!

How many bulletin boards did you have in your old classroom?
Question: Do you not have staple guns/tackers in America? In New Zealand we have these great heavy duty handled staplers that are made to staple things into the wall. I swear every American teacher I watch is just using a normal stapler and it makes me wonder if they just don't exist over there...
We have staple guns but they’re not usually used in classrooms because those staples can be difficult to get out of walls and doors. They’re a custodians nightmare here lol

I'm a custodian in NC and I was wondering how are you able to go into your school so soon and on a Saturday!?
Every school is definitely different! In my district, our badges work all of the time except for overnight from 11 pm until 6 am. Otherwise we are able to come and go as we please! 😊
My last school had no alarms or anything. We had keys, so we could go in anytime we wanted to.
