    The Fender Tone Master Twin is a great sounding amplifier. I had the opportunity to test it out at a gig recently and it sounded great in the live mix. 40 watts was plenty loud but full 85 was epic. In this video, I am playing some original songs with my Fender 52 Reissue Telecaster and pedalboard going into the Fender Tone Master Twin Reverb.

    I really like a drummer that unerstands how not to hit hard all the time and let the instruments be heard clearly.
    I wish I was in the audience having a beer and listening to your band.

    First thing- the band was tight and sounded great!!
    The Tone Master delivered on all levels, to me the tone Seemed indistinguishable from its valve predecessor.

    I just bought one of these Tone Master (the Super Reverb 4X10) a few weeks ago and i'm shocked by their capabilities. I've played several tubes amps for many years and I'm totally in love with my Tone Master ! On stage it sounds great, and you can go and play with it everywhere, studios, stages, even at home with that crazy attenuator in the back. The sound is always as good as you need ! I'm in a hurry to record with this mojo machine ! Try it, absolutely great ! Thanks Shane for all your stuff on YT

    2. Awesome playing, Shane. I loved that run from 4:50 to 5:00.

    Great show! That’s the thing with live gigs, valve vs solid state doesn’t really matter anymore.... the crowd certainly can’t tell the difference! The playing is all that matters at this point.

    • @jazznotes3802
      @jazznotes3802 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That statement is half true imo. If you have a SS amp playing hard rock/metal and there’s another guitar player with a beastly all valve amp, you’ll find the SS amps can sound thin and small in comparison. But that would depend on the type of amp the other guitarist is playing. I found this to be true in my experience anyway.
      But digital and SS amps are making a comeback! I say comeback because people (especially the younger digital amp generation) didn’t live the 90’s where there weee some great Solid State Amps for every style.
      For example we had Randall (even Marshall) that made some great Pro level amps for metal/hard rock & Peavey, “especially the late 90’s red stripe Bandit” that has been used in pubs/clubs more than any other SS amp in history. The 112 Red Stripe Bandit is still a great up there with (if not better) these much newer digital/SS amps. The real factor that made solid state suck for many years is “the low quality speakers and components” used, treating them as kids/bedroom toys. Look what Orange has done with the new Super Crush, they went back “old school” using the same high-end components as the Rockerverb.

      What Jamal says is what really matters ... a guitar, pedals & amp may sound good in a studio recording or on TH-cam, but when it's used live, then only can you tell if it really delivers what an amp is made to do.

    First of all, GREAT playing all around! Tight and right blues combo. Awesome.
    The tone master sounds like, well, a Twin Reverb. And it’s plenty loud! I’m assuming this is one of those push volume from your amps to compete with the drums, and just put vocals in the PA type of gigs. It held up great for that. That said, any situation where everything is miced for a full PA mix, the TM would fair marvelously.
    Those lights. Dear God. Whoever installed those should just stop installing A/V gear. Lol. Next time you play this pub take an extra 5 mins to switch them to a solid color and it’ll be much better. I honestly don’t know why those LED cans even include this strobey sound active mode. It never ever looks good. Oh well.
    Again, the band sounded great and the TM did its job very well. I’m sold!

    Sounds great and I get the allure based on the features. What makes me apprehensive about dropping $1k+ is that the inside is basically a laptop in a speaker cabinet. A tube amp is indefinitely repairable. Once the processor on this goes it’s toast.
    In my mind the difference between buying a tube version and a ToneMaster parallels that between buying a car and leasing one. The former you buy and it’s yours. Trade it in if you want but you get a long term investment. The latter is great for a while and then you’re starting over.

    • @RogerThat902

      Tickled Elmo changing tubes costs about $25 and five minutes once every year or two. It would take a Tone Master lasts 30-40 years to make up the difference. Lasting that long would make it one of the most dependable digital devices I’ve heard of. If so, please disregard this criticism.

    How does it sound with a distortion pedal? I'm sold on the clean/OD however on the fence with the distortion. Wait never mind I found your other video testing pedals. Sounds great. Now I need to ditch my Mesa Lonestar 2x12.

    Great show, I enjoyed that. Seems like a great amp, I'm playing a Hot Rod Deluxe and thinking about the Twin Tone Master. Do you think The Twin 200 watt version has more clean headroom, so louder without breaking up? My Hot Rod breaks up at about 3-4 on the volume, with a Tele .. so I don;'t use a lot of my drive pedal, play fairly clean mostly. I'm with another electric lead guitar in a band, and a pretty loud drummer.. so it has to keep up without putting a mic in front of it.
    Hoping you can share some info on that?

    I enjoyed the tone...but...I think your Marshall DSL40CR beat it hands down. Not that I care what brand is which, when I think back to your Marshall live video, that one blew me away. This did not. Anyway keep up the great work. Really only videos I watch.

      The Marshall is a great amp. They are both very different tones. This reminds me more of my old Super-Reverb in terms of that classic Fender thing. :-)

    You guys needed to "ZZ" up and wear dark sunglasses for that gig! Those lights! Did you have 'words' with the lighting person afterwards? Almost annoying as a faulty fluro in a rehearsal room... Great tones in the room..... On that feedback issue, would the newness/stiffness of the speakers have anything to do with the amp being hard to elicit feedback from?

  • @MrGroovergeorge
    @MrGroovergeorge 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    My question is how reliable is this going to be 5 or so years down the track. It’s digital and just like computers they end up having a short shelf life unlike true solid state amps like Peavey Bandits for example. The price Fender is asking for these is way over the top as well. They could have easily thrown in an effects loop but it was all about aesthetics.

    I feel like this amp only works well with drive pedals because when I use my big muff fuzz I can’t get a good fat tone, I think I might just return it and get a Marshall. ☹️

    Hey Shane, how close do you think the Mustang 3 come to the new Tone Master amps? Since I still own a Mustang which has a Twin and Deluxe in it, I’d be curious how how it compares. Thanks

  • @5150RDH
    @5150RDH 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hey Shane, really curious, do you see this replacing your DSL40CR as your go-to amp? Why or why not?

    • @intheblues
      @intheblues  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It's different. If I want the Fender sound this is the best choice (weight mostly). The Marshall won't be going anywhere. :-)

    I love this amp conceptually speaking - I hope it motivates (if not intimidates) other manufacturers to follow suite and produce versions of their own classic amps. I'm honestly shocked that Korg hasn't done something like this for the AC30 yet. It seems like they could create an all-Nutube AC30 with digital FX and retire the AC30VR. Perhaps Marshall could do the same by giving us a Bluesbreaker-style model? We shall see............

    Hi Shane, just came across this video again and when I saw it the first time, I had just got myself one. Just a question occurring now two years down the track, when you played at this gig, did you attenuate the Tonemaster down from full output?

    • @intheblues
      @intheblues  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It depends on the room mate. I usually ran it at full when I could or at the second highest power setting pushed a little harder.
