@Films At Home Yeah I saw that documentary, and its a horrible documentary that lies about the original sound effects getting the special 7.1 treatment, severely ignores the fact that the color timing is revisionist compared to Technicolor prints, the grain mostly being scrubbed out and the Mono Mix not sounding as good as it did on the 30th Anniversary DVD and ESPECIALLY the 1995 Signature Laserdisc. No one should take that documentary serious, its a lying revisionist piece of crap.
The thing I love about Jaws is that it's one of those movies you can watch several times without getting sick of it. This warrants my fourth purchase of the film lol
What I like about it is it still stands up today. I have heard people talk about doing a remake of it, but why? It will most likely end up worse. Just do different movies like have been done already. Like deep blue or the meg. I showed it to some teenagers at a party a few years ago and it scared the crap out of them.
since Jaws(1975) absolutely positively definitely and very certainly one of my favorite movies of all time including John Carpenter's The Thing(1982) I consider both Jaws(1975) and The Thing(1982) to be two of my favorite movies of all time they're both a masterpiece
I own the 4K steel book of The Thing from Shout Factory. One of my favorite prints. Shout Factory did a fantastic job on The Thing. I highly recommend it.
I just got my LG C1 and hooked it up to my Panasonic 9000. I threw in Jaws. All I can say is wow! It’s so clean. It could have been shot in the last 5 years. No film grain (that I can see). Colours are vibrant.
I saw 'Jaws' the night it opened on June 20, 1975 . . since then I have purchased 'Jaws' on Super 8mm, CED disc, Beta, Vhs, Laserdisc, DVD, Bluray and now 4k!! And yes, this is the best it has ever looked for home theatre . . but, I will only listen to the original mono track . . too many sound effect changes for me that take me out of the movie . . I know . . looks perfect, sounds perfect . . great review Jeff, great movie!!
Great Review. I have Amazing memories of seeing Jaws in 75 at 15 yrs old at the Zigfield theater in NYC. The Best theater in the world. Jaws is a Perfect film. To me it's like 2 films in one.
I'm a huge Godfather fan but I question how much of an upgrade over the Blu-ray it would be, which was a 10/10 release. The first two are generally softer looking anyway, and they really don't need Atmos. Then again I could be surprised. HDR could make the many dark scenes have more depth with better highlights and shadows.
@@GuitarGuy5000000000 just like Jaws, The Godfather restorations were done in 4K and then downscaled to 1080P. From what were hearing the Jaws 4K looks amazing so that and with added HDR the Godfather films could look even better than the current blu rays.
@@Horrorfan1984 You could be totally right, and I certainly am all for it. Though Jaws has a completely different look to it and was shot quite differently than the Godfather and because of that I feel it had a lot more opportunity to do something special with 4K and HDR. The Godfather I just feel will have a lesser impact.
I’ve made a tradition of watching Jaws every year around Memorial Day for over fifteen years. I own every format including the excellent Universal 100th Anniversary Blu-ray release. This UHD release is a no-brainer. Checking out your Amazon link now. From one cinephile to another...Thank You!
Great review and video. You was so excited to review your favorite movie of all time. The energy, the excitement, plus it had a great packaging, disc art. Universal put a lot of effort and work in this release.
In Iceland, the title is "Ókindin", which is an old Icelandic word for a monster. It is not a commonly used word. I pre-ordered my copy from Zaavi. It is a steelbook. Cant wait.
I actually quadruple dipped and even more for this same movie. Having owned the 16Mm version as a kid, VHS, DVD, Blu and now 4K. Only thing missing is a Theatrical 35mm print
Yes I have the 25th anniversary edition of Jaws and have pre ordered the 4KUHD/Blu Ray Cine version from HMV. I cannot wait to get my hands on this film and watch it again an all time classic !.😀
YES! I been waiting for so long for this movie to come out in 4K! And the appraises in your review makes me even more excited about getting it. For the record I've already preordered both the regular and steekbook versions of this title, one from Amazon and the other from Best Buy!
I still have The Jaws 2 Volume VHS📼The 25TH Anniversary Collector's Edition I got it back when I was attending in elementary school. Also around my 19TH Birthday I got the Jaws 2 Discs @ FYE 10 Years Ago.
I've had this pre ordered for awhile now Best Buy steelbook. The Blu Ray that came out years ago I thought was beautiful and maybe the best looking Blu Ray movie I've ever seen. So I was confident a 4K bump was gonna be even more amazing!!
I’m a few years late to this lol but I just recently picked up Jaws on 4K and wow the movie has never looked better. I’m still amazed on what they pulled off on this film.
When this movie came out,of course, there was no home media so everyone would go to see the movies they liked more than once- because you wouldn't see it again until perhaps years later. In the case of Jaws we actually went to see it all summer long lol! Can't even remember how many times - but we also saw it in 1976 because it was so popular that I guess theaters just kept re- releasing it lol! They would keep films in theaters for a long time and depending on the theater they would all often look completely different! The prints they had at the theater nearest to my house in queens looked pretty terrible back then, but sometimes we went to the nicer theaters in Manhattan to see it - and even though we were young kids,we would all notice how much better the movie looked and sounded. (We just thought that it was because this was where the rich people went to the movies!lol) So when Spielberg says that this will be the best version ever of the movie because of all the different equipment that theaters had then, I know exactly what he means! Super excited to see one of my all time favorite movies in this format!!
Did the Atmos track take advantage of the elevation speakers at all? Maybe as the water spashed around during the fight with JAWS or ambience? Or was it only the soundtrack?
Wow Jaws looks phenomenal in 4k. I'm just checking it out for the first time at the moment, I have seen and own quite a few 4K movies, I just recently started getting into them Jaws is in the lead for image wow factor. The death of that Ketner kid (I think that's his name) has never looked more gruesome. That's heavy. I forgot about that part, it just looks brutal in this transfer.
The blu-ray was great! Just got the 4K, not much better, maybe just different. I was comparing the blu and the 4K on two different players, switching between the two, in the still scenes it’s easier to read labels on packaging etc on the blu-ray, 4k not as great. Opinions anyone?

Oddly enough, John Williams' music is my only beef with the 1080p blu-ray: It's reverbed out way too thin into the 7.1 surrounds and you can't even hear the all-important opening "DAAA DUM", which lets you know the shark is there, under all the bubble sound-effects! Even though the original 1975 film soundtrack was mono, Universal did record the music in 1975 to 3-channel 35mm fullcoat magnetic masters. I hope they restored the closeup presence of the music in Atmos! Did they also include the original 1975 mono mix?

Yo!!! Great video how are you getting these movies so early?
Since it is your favourite movie you should look up this video: DIY make the meg diorama (first result), with a little changes you can recreate Jaws
Also looks like Australia won't get any fancy packaging, would really like that lenticular cover
Jaws is Awesome Movie and it's my Favorite movie I own it on Blu-Ray
Great review - Jaws is an all time favourite of mine! Looking forward to getting my steel-book. The previous Blu-Ray was great and I saw the remaster in the cinema in 2012 and it looked great!
Getting my 4k bestbuy steelbook today 😎can’t wait to watch this!
