What about Sunpatients and new guinea impatiens? Is it the same? And I wonder if there comes a point where it is too late to trim this way.
I was impressed at how fast the flowers reappeared.
Yes, it doesn't take long for new growth.
I know it works. I had a beautiful three point buck graze mine down to within a few inches of the soil and when they grew back they were amazing. The most flowers ever!
That is awesome!
I did this from one of your earlier videos. And it works!!!!! ALSO thank you for showing how to use an ortho feeder for fertilizing. My hubby had bought me one last year and never used it so it took me over an hour with hose and watering can to fertilize my annuals, now it only takes 30 minutes or so to fertilize with Beat your Neighbor! Thank you
As a hairdresser, l have no problem during the first cut! It gives light to the tiny growth near the dirt line also. People laugh at me, but when my flowers are still blooming in October.....You are very smart at your Greenhouse! I wish l lived near you! 😊
Thanks for the great tips! I’ll try this next year!
This works folks! This year was the first time I trimmed back impatiens because they were so tall and leggy when I purchased them. I selectively trimmed each stem back to a full set of leaves, and two weeks later they looked great, and continue looking great. And those hedge clippers are the real deal--the greenhouses I have worked at do the same thing to many varieties of plants.
Video volume was back to normal today on the desktop computer, lol.
Excellent!
It really works, been doing this for years!
Yes it does!
This works with roses too!
I'm in zone 8b and daytime temps are in the 90s. My impatients have stopped blooming. Would cutting them back help???
I’m going to do this today mine are humongous I wish I could have included a picture so u could see. Thank you so much ❤
You’re welcome 😊
Certainly works for mine.
Yes it does.
I did this about a week ago to one of my plants that I bought that looked pretty spindly, but I did it based on one of your videos I seen that day. It’s a double impatien and I’m happy to say that it’s bouncing back and looking more uniform in shape! The branches were bare looking, except for a couple leaves and a flower at the end. Now They’re starting to fill in. Thank you for this tip!
Sounds great!
Can you do this with the Rockapulco types?
One of my inpatients pot is not flowering . What might be the problem?
OMG!!!! I could never do that! NEVER!!!!!!!!
Then you won't reap the reward of having them grow to their max. Give it a try.
Do you do this for petunias in hanging baskets if they are getting leggy?!
Here is one of our video on trimming petunias: th-cam.com/video/0Yb7F-Javtc/w-d-xo.html
Can I do this to plants that have been potted for over one month?
Yes, you can.
Can I trim my impatiens that have been planted since late April!
Yes
Is it ok to trim my impatiens that have been planted since late April?
You can if needed.
I was told impatients don’t like fertilizer. Was I told wrong?
Yes, you were. Ours thrive and are fed weekly with Beat Your Neighbor fertilizer.
I was also told that by a few people. They said that too much fertilizer on impatiens makes it put energy in foliar growth. So the plants stop producing blooms. I stopped fertilizing my impatiens and they look great.
