      @@watchartsci my attempt at a joke did not work. Not meant to make you upset. A hulk is the previous generation with green bezel and green dial with a 40mm maxi case. The Kermit was the generation before that with the aluminum bezel. I have heard the model shown referred to as the cermit or Starbucks. It's all silly names to begin with

    Comparing the resale value of a Rolex to other watches may not be realistic due to the significant price difference. For the price of one Submariner, you could acquire four watches of similar quality from other brands, or alternatively, you could opt for a timepiece of considerably higher quality from brands like Moser, Lyrique, Parmigiani, etc., for the equivalent cost.

      Seba, the resale price (values remain constant) was only part of the point. The comparison was in terms of what you could get for roughly the same price (MSRP) in terms of "divers." The UL looked like a good match, but of course the resale price is wholly different from that of the Rolex culture, where buying used makes little sense to me because the price for a new one is the same or less than a used one.       It isn’t, only the Navitimer chronograph is popular, mostly in Germany! Germany is a Breitling country, I don’t know why.

    Hi Bill, the Sub you showed is not a “Hulk”. The Submariner you showed, its nickname is a “Cermit”. The Submariner “Hulk” which is discontinued has a green dial and bezel. There is also a Submariner “Kermit” that has also a green bezel, but an aluminum one, the “Cermit” has a ceramic bezel.

      I haven't heard "Cermit" before. I have heard of similar colorways being called "Starbucks". Silly names, all of them.

      I don't know Obud. I compared the Hulk and Kermit, and the Kermit seemed to have a thinner bezel. I'm not a Rolex guy, as you know, but whatever they call that green-bezel Sub... I like it. Take care, Bill

      @@watchartsci The Kermit has a thin aluminum bezel, while the “Cermit” has a ceramic Cerachrome bezel, also called “ceramic Kermit”. The “Hulk” reference 116610LV has a Cerachrome bezel and a green dial. The “Cermit has also the new 41MM case, and thinner lugs.

    Going to Europe in a few weeks and have my eye on a Tutima Seven Seas. Great build quality on the Tutimas I’ve handled so far.

    I'm all about alternative brands. Tutima is a great flieger watch. I bought a Marathon JSAR dive watch, Pequignet Royale Origine dress watch, and a Bucherer Compax Annual Chronograph. I feel safer flying under the radar.

    Given the choice of premium dress watches Bill, I would be more than happy with a Piaget Antiplano.

      It's a very interesting watch, Tuna, in that thin dress watches generally aren't automatics; however, my Van Cleef & Arpels Pierre Arpels Heure d'Ici & Heure d'Ailleurs is the same ... thin, dress watch with a micro-rotor. Love it! Take care, Bill

      @@localheroEd Swatch bought Blancpain in 1992 and started putting in silicon after 2008. In a recent ad, Blancpain was proud of the fact that all of their watches now have silicon hairsprings.😥

      @@watchartsci proud isn’t the word I’d use, but my watch has decided to switch from running slow to fast which might be a result of magnets. There’s better ways than silicon though.

    Hi Bill, I thought you’d take something from Ulysse Nardin’s Diver line, but the Marine isn’t bad either. In fact, the Torpilleur is a dream watch of mine. 🙂

      I know Gilberto...I just like the Marine line more than the UN Diver line. The divers may have been a closer comparison, but I doubt either watches do much real diving. Take care, Bill

    There are some nice LACOs that would substitute for IWC pilot watches, using the same dial annotation. Okay Japanese mechanical movement, but fine for a TOOL watch.

    For the Speedmaster there are plenty of used ones at a better price using the 1861 or 861 movements, sans silicon. Great watches! Lots of manual Chrono alternatives out there. Chronograph fan here, such an interesting complication imo.

    I don´t think the Marine Torpilleur by UN is a dive watch since the hands aren't lumed, which is necessary of you're going under water. 🙂

      Fair point, although there is a marine diver with lots of lume and you’re likely not buying a Sub for actual diving.

      @@Lexcoaster I’ve always viewed Explorer (1 & 2) as travel watches, for adventures that don’t require a special kit. If your hand and therefore watch are due to be in contact with rocks where a gshock!
