I've watched this so many times and it's still as fresh as ever. Glad makes this medley sound so simple yet no-one could emulate this performance with such style, precision and effectiveness as she does.
Oh good for her, what a wonderful talent to play a piano like that. Eric and Ernie's shirts and matching ties remind me of the fashion of having curtains and matching wallpaper on the same wall :)
GOT HERE DUE TO THE FASCINATING ENTERTAINMENT DOCUMENTARY ON BBC4 TONIGHT ALL ABOUT MRS MILLS HER RISE TO FAME IN ALL THE PUBS AND CLUBS FUNNY FROM THE FIRST LINE AS SHE DOES REMIND ME OF A SCHOOL DINNER LADY HA HA!!
most folks dont see the work involved in just playing the piano and remembering the music as well and makeing many songs fit as she does thats talent as i play the pian but not as good as she does and we get to enjoy this try thinking as you play of the next song and make it fit in to the music and be good at it as well and belive me its not easy and all work . good bless her
Ah Eric and Ernie loved Mrs Mills and all the guests knew what they were going in for, after all the whole thing is scripted :) its just wonderful banter by great people :)
The only LP I have IIRC is an MFP prod. where she's at a white piano with keys of rainbow colours (that's why I bought it - not knowing her music). I didn't know she had success in UK until I searched on TH-cam... I envy those who sungalong in those days. Must have been fun.
Just to be clear, are you saying that Mrs. Mills was one of McCartney's inspirations? I never knew that. I can hear that influence in his more quaint songs, like, "Martha My Dear," for example.
harryoakley the British loved M&W so much because they are funny. I appreciate that you obviously have different comic tastes to others but the majority of the British public found them funny because that is the British sense of humour :)
Two Ronnies, Cleese, Atkinson, Tommy Cooper, and so many more - hilariously funny. Morecambe & Wise, totally unfunny. "I play all the right notes, but not necessarily in the right order" - good Lord, how can anyone laugh about that........
Hans Eekhoff I agree that the likes of Tommy Cooper, Cleese, Atkinson and the Two Ronnies were also very funny but nothing can beat M&W. Its funny because it is such a simple line combined with the fact this was in the presence of Andre Previn such a world-renowned and well-respected conductor and the way Eric grabbed him by his lapels and called him "sunshine" made fun out of what should have been a very serious situation
You need noty describe it, I have seen the sketch and so many others of M&W. Totally unfunny; the kitchen scene is marginally amusing but does not compare to just about everything the two Ronnies did, they were so much more intelligent and subtle. Anyway, it's a matter of taste, but if anything I find Eric Morecambe annoying. I do like Mrs. Mills.
I can fully understand folk not liking the humour of Morecambe and Wise because my working class different humour is different to other different people like...ya know wha' a mean? The reason of course is that we lower classes had not the privledge of going to university to lurrn the fowl mouthed language and sex we here from the so-called educated comics we hear on telly today. I often ponder where they all learned to swear. Ya no wa' a mean like?
They were not funny in the least, corny and stupid, we used to switch over every time they came on, What thick working class people used to see in these beats me
@powerspade Mrs Mills - nothing great but lovely and disarming. Morecambe and Wise - totally unfunny. I never understood why the British (who usually have a great sense of humor) liked them so much.
The wonderful Mrs Mills - brought joy and happiness to eveyone. One great lady.
At the time you didn't realise what a real talented lady she really was. I could listen to her all day.
I've watched this so many times and it's still as fresh as ever. Glad makes this medley sound so simple yet no-one could emulate this performance with such style, precision and effectiveness as she does.
Mrs Mills always great ! How I love listening your music
Love Mrs. Mills piano playing. great video. Laughter and great music is a wonderful combo. 10+*S
That's real respect and admiration from Eric and Ern for the wonderful Mrs Mills!
Love Mrs Mills, and the stride style of piano playing she specialised in. God, she was so talented, what a fantastic piano player, terrific.
She was great fun and died way too young.Bless her.
what a true talent and a wonderful smile.
Her smile warms my heart
WOW!! -out-of-sight piano playing! This is beautiful.
Oh good for her, what a wonderful talent to play a piano like that. Eric and Ernie's shirts and matching ties remind me of the fashion of having curtains and matching wallpaper on the same wall :)
Fabulous and a lovely lady.
Thank you for posting this. I hadn't seen it before but it really is quite a delight. Lovely clean, crisp playing from Mrs Mills.

"are you hungry?" slays me every time!
She's adorable.
Wonderful...and a mention in dispatches for the spoons player. ( 3:20 - 3:40 )
Love you Mrs. Mills and M&W

Fantastic...
***** Thank you Babymillo !:) yes she is AWESOME! Have a nice day!
Nice
Léiki Uëda Thanks for watching :)
Gentler, kinder times.
Hard to believe she's only in her early 50's there.
Growing up as a child I always thought Mrs Mills and Tessie O'Shea was the same person!!!
thank you for uploading
They named the piano in Abbey Road studios after her

Music to smile by .
That’s so difficult to do yet she makes it look so easy...
So ! This is Mrs Mills who The Two Ronnies impersonated , Baker as Mrs Mills ?
Just to be clear, are you saying that Mrs. Mills was one of McCartney's inspirations? I never knew that. I can hear that influence in his more quaint songs, like, "Martha My Dear," for example.
Does anyone know what songs are being played here? the only one I can recognize is "Yes sir that's my baby?
Brian Henegar Ain't That a Grand and Glorious Feeling
Yes Sir that's My Baby
Powder Your Face With Sunshine
My Old Man Said Follow The Van
Stride piano is deceptively difficult to play! Well done Mrs Mills!
More albums than the Beatles

By the way, quite a few of my English friends are equally bored by M&W as I am.
Yeah it is down to taste :) the Two Ronnies and M&W are on a par in my opinion. They did a few sketches that were quite similar
My Old Man said follow the van....at the end
Any idea what year this was?
They were a bit similar though Tessie had a Welsh accent
Me too
Hand off my little ern ☺

looks like muted piano to me. You never see the hammers going and the camera shots largely avoid the strings
Agreed, I could never laugh at them, what is so funny about them
p
Always liked Mrs Mills, but not morecambe and wise never been to get me to smile
