    You can find the proper lens on our website by clicking "Photography" at the top of the page, then click "Lenses". Then navigate to the right side of the page under "Narrow Results" , scrolling down and clicking on "SLR lenses", scroll further and click on "Full Frame Lenses" then SONY A-Mount (under Lens Mount"). Great review, Mia. With all the wanna-be, self-proclaimed "experts" who do nothing but read ad copy or overstate the obvious, it's great to see someone who really knows what they're talking about. Keep up the good work.

    That tube you see is the adapter, which is not shown in many photos of the lens. It's not designed to be taken off, so it's not designed for A mount bodies.

    The NEX-VG900 had the full frame sensor of the Sony alpha SLT a99.
    The big mistake with this full frame e-mount video camera was that it was introduced before any full frame e-mount cameras were available.
    So most people weren't really interested.
    I have the LA-EA4 adapter which is even better than the LA-EA3 and the result with a-mount lenses isn't impressive with autofocus.
    So this video camera was introduced too early.
    That video camera can take the photos too and was introduced before the announcement of the Sony a7 series. So it is the first full frame e-mount camera.
    Finally there isn't any integrated ND filter which is so important for professional and expensive video cameras.

    The E mount Rokinon Cine lenses ( 14mm T3.1, 24mm T1.5, 35mm T1.5 and 85mm T1.5) cover the full frame sensor. Zeiss also has E mount full frame Cine lenses. Since the VG900 is a full frame mirrorless it should work with almost any full frame or APS-C lens made using low cost adapters. It shoots in APS-C or full frame mode.

    Are you saying the Rokinon E mount Cine lenses have an E to A mount adapter built in ? That is not what it says on the B&H Rokinon E mount Cine lens page. If so then that would mean it would fit the A99 A-mount HDSLR if you took the adapter off.

    That's what I'm talking about! I'm shocked you didn't mention any Carl Zeiss lenses. I was about to get 16-35 and 24-77mm 2.8, but I'll get the sony 20mm Wide Angle f/.8. I did order the Rokinon T-Lens set of three too. I'm using this and my a77 as backup. Thank you so much. Sony couldn't answer this question! PEACE

    Vignetting is an issue with the VG900 in full frame mode with some wide angle lenses. To get rid of the dark corners, go to the menu and select APS-C Size Capture. That will crop the frame and eliminate the vignetting.

    As president of the fan club for the articulate and beautiful Mia McCormick -- I give two thumbs up for this review.
    But -- although this camcorder is a perfect dream on paper -- the aliasing on this camera kills it as a serious production option. And, at the three thousand dollar price range -- the aliasing is entirely unacceptable.
    Had Sony prevented the aliasing on this camera -- yes -- it would have been the hottest item on earth and the camcorder that changed the business.

    Any lens that vignettes on the VG900 would do so on the A99 since they both have the same size sensor. Any lens that you can mount on the VG900 that vignettes please choose (via the menu) APS-C mode to eliminate the issue. The lenses to watch out for are wide ones. To avoid the issue entirely, go for full frame wide angle lenses such as the Sony 20mm f/2.8 Wide Angle Prime Lens. B&H # SO2028 DennisL ask(at)bhphoto.com

    No XLRs, no built in ND's, and it records to AVCHD 4:2:0. It sounds like this camera has most of the problems that you'd have shooting video with a DSLR.

      XAVC S was added in firmware later on. And, like Mia said, you can buy an XLR adapter. Of course, if I were to buy a full-frame camera from Sony for video today, I would get either an a7s II or an FX9, depending on budget.

    Any stronger codecs or editable flat picture profiles firmware updates for this one so far? I can't really match multicam footage from setups requiring a log profile, which now have become pretty much a standard for video projects other than broadcast or amateurish approaches, nor from cheaper Sony(s) like the a6000 neither from other brands like CineStyle and Canon. On board Cinematone is useless.
    It is very frustrating considering how much this camera cost. I didn't know about all this back then. Seems like Sony totally forgot about it. I'm even considering selling it and moving to Canon, as I almost always end up not using footage out of this, but noone seems to want it. Soooo frustrating.

    What's the use if I have to crop to APS-C to get rid of the vignetting? Are there any Full Frame Lenses at all which don't have that vignetting problem?

    • @BandH
      @BandH  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      One of the greatest assets of the Sony NEX-VG900 is how very flexible it is regarding lenses. Not only does it have a native E-mount allowing the use of those affordable lenses, the user can also procure full frame A-mount lenses, attach the included Sony A-Mount Adaptor (LA-EA3) and then enjoy the benefits of full frame shooting.

      B and H My question was are there any full frame lenses at all which don't have vignetting problem? Because only that's when it makes sense to buy this product. Using full frame lens in crop sensor mode doesn't make much sense. (I am not a professional, but I'm doing my own research).

    • @BandH
      @BandH  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Shreyas Kale Full frame lenses used on full frame cameras do not vignette.
      The great advantage of the VG900 is the flexibility to use both type of lenses, full frame or APS-C. If you do not have a full set of full frame lenses and your project is appropriate to release in crop mode, (say something just for the web) then you are in a good situation. If you do not have any full frame lenses, you can use this camera in crop mode until you procure full frame lenses. This can be an advantage for some shooters.

    The FS100 with the shotgun microphone will deliver a better quality generally. On camera microphones (even though the VG900 one is pretty high quality) are very omni directional and often times pick up more sound than you will want. A directional shotgun helps to narrow the sound field to what is important.

    Hi
    Thanks for taking time creating this NEX VG900 review,
    Can I please have your thoughts on this ... ?
    I wanna shot videos to make a set of video lesson.
    (I will stand in front of a whiteboard - indoor
    and out door with blurry background)
    However, I'm confused which video camera should I use.
    I've searched the net and found 3 options :
    * Canon 70D Camera
    * Sony NEX VG30
    * Sony NEX VG900
    I need to be able to shoot with continuous focus,
    that's why I thought Canon 70D would be great,
    as I watched a lot of youtube review about this
    and read this review article
    www.tomsguide.com/us/canon-70d-dslr,review-2182.html
    But DSLR camera like Canon 70D has time limitation which
    can be tricky to be use on long hour shooting video.
    However, if I go for the Sony NEX VG900,
    which has full frame censor, the auto focus will not be activated
    on the full frame mode unless I switch to the APS-C censor.
    So what I need is a video camera with :
    * Both continuous focus and manual focus
    as sometime I shoot indoor and sometime outdoor,
    and when shooting outdoor, I wanna blur the background.
    * Manual control on iso, etc so it will look great on low light
    * External mic input jack
    * Ability to shoot long hour
    * High quality result
    what are you thoughts ?
    Which one do you think will suit my need ?
    Thank you
    Jo

    • @BandH
      @BandH  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jo Jo If it weren't for the time requirement the 70D would be the best pick of your specified choices. The model we most recommend to suffice your criteria is the Canon C100AF model. It?s a larger Super 35mm sensor, and will give you the depth of field you are looking for, the AF performance, and can make hour long recordings. See the link below for details on this model.
