It might be a figure of speech and/or possible moblin cultural difference too. Like, we know from Breath of the Wild that moblins need to eat a lot to sustain their huge bodies so maybe "You're so cute that I would eat you!" wouldn't be weird or creepy at all.

Probably a hard time since these types of monsters have never been shown to read or write. Maybe he took long to write back to Maggie because he didn't know how to until he somewhat learned. Letter did sound broken in some ways to. But that's just my mini theory, he could've actually wanted to eat her lol.

Error actually makes a cameo appearance in Cadence of Hyrule if you manage to clip out of bounds using some items. He lives in an isolated house with a few bushes outside and sells you a pair of boots that allow you to move off-beat. And of course, he says his iconic "I AM ERROR" line

Auru always seemed like a weird character to me, because he's treated as a key character in a few points of the story, but almost nothing is revealed about him or how he knows these things. It really changes things to know he was supposed to be a royal tutor years ago, it's really interesting to see how many small but crucial details, especially with characters, people outside of Japan never knew.

@@DJWEEDPIZZA That's actually a good point. A lot of games have "their own version" of certain roles, like with Malon/Marin/Medley/Romani, and the "wise elder" has been Rauru in OOT and Geapora in SS. Since his nose is so big and triangular, I sometimes wondered if he is Ganondorf in disguise, his secret twin brother, or maybe a ghost of a long dead Gerudo man (his halo could be hidden under his hair).
Seeing as there probably aren't that many ways a random guy could've made their way into a region there only the territorial Gerudo women could access easily.
Of course it's possible he's probably just a Hylian guy who's got a little something going on with someone among the Gerudo.

Odd that Auru being Zelda's tutor was somehow removed (mistranslated?) from the English version. It's feels like a very important detail that helps explain the character and why he is so knowledgeable to the royal family's secrets.
I've also been reading the Twilight Princess manga recently, where not only does it mention Auru was Zelda's tutor, but there are actual scenes with Auru interacting with a young Zelda. I was thinking it might have been one of the authors' many original ideas until I saw that fact here!

  • @TheLadyLiddell

I can understand translation mistakes like Bagu and Error because that's a minor detail that could have gotten lost in translation. But having the Twilight Princess translation completely ommit that HE tutored the princess seems like a huge change. What was the thought process behind that?

Because he didn't? I looked up rouhai 老輩 and it means elderly people. I haven't found anything about it meaning I. I don't know if he talks about himself with rouhai, but that wouldn't make much sense.

    • @setteplays

We know he's talking about himself because of the orimashite おりまして, a polite word used when talking about your superiors and can only be used when talking about yourself or your relatives.

It's no different than how when the sonic unleashed manual was translated it left out a couple lines from the JP manual that literally state the werehog form was a piece of dark gaia's energy that attached itself to sonic and sonic's mind resisted the darkness.

I think Joynas from Spirit Tracks is pretty weird. She runs the Take 'Em All On challenge in Castle Town and that raises so many questions.
How does she get replicas of the bosses? Where did she get all the monsters? How did she get (make?) a Shadow Link? Where are the rooms you fight in? Because clearly they're not in the building you're in. You can only play the first level of the challenge after beating the first temple. Before that, she says you're not ready. Does that mean she knows Link is the hero? She looks like Jolene from Phantom Hourglass. Could she be a descendent of Jolene, just like how you meet Lineback's grandson? So many questions about this one really obscure character!

Nintendo mistranslating some big stuff is so odd to me. Maybe in their distant past, but nowadays they have a whole translation wing called the Treehouse. From what I know, translation is done internally, so a game as recent as Twilight Princess inadvertently changing the whole backstory of a character is odd to me.

Since the book also mentions other weird details, like exactly how old Oocoo Jr is, maybe the omission from Auru's dialogue isn't really a translation mistake, but a marketing trick to get people to buy the book in order to get more details about the game characters?

The Resistance as a whole was severely underutilized. Sure, they "help" to point Link in the direction of the mirror shard dungeons, and they show up for all of like 10 seconds to look heroic before the player enters the main part of Hyrule Castle for the fight with Ganon. But it always felt like the characters got the short end of the stick. Like, it would have been cool had they maybe accompanied Link to the dungeon they're located near, even if they weren't actually involved with clearing it out. Or even having them show upon first reaching Hyrule Castle, and helping secure the area before Link goes to the throne room.

We need a new 2-D Zelda title. Not a remake, not an HD. A new title, new adventure, new Link..
Or, maybe, the Hero of Legend shows up for one last adventure as... an old man? Give us an old Link? Let us see a grizzled, veteran Link on one last adventure. A fully grown, grey hair, GOW:4 Kratos style Link. One who has wisened and become more dangerous due to their cunning and wisdom, rather than being a brash, full of bravado young man who's answer is to charge in and take names. Maybe give him a unique variant of the green tunic, matted with personal modifications to better fit his wilderness lifestyle? I hope I'm not alone in wanting to see an old Link, and who better than The Hero of Legend? Dudes been theough more than any other Link, it would only be fitting we see him as the Old Link we get to play as.
At least, that's what I would love to see. A new 2-D Zelda title with The Hero of Legend, but as an old man on his last adventure.

I feel like Aurie Taamu might have been an easter egg reference to Link himself from Ocarina of Time. Might be a stretch on my part, but Aurie Taamu almost sounds like trying to hide Ocarina of Time, maybe with Ura (part of the Japanese title), trying to sound similar without being obvious and naming him "Ocarina Time". The books are very green, he's waiting to get his fairy (Link was the Boy Without A Fairy at the start), and even the carrots could be a reference to them being used as Epona's speed bursts.
It could also be Tingle, with the unknown chef friend being The Hero of Time (officially named Link, sure, but we can choose his name, thus the lack of a name). But the name sounding like them wanting to refer to Ocarina of Time and hiding it makes me think Link instead.

It is confirmed that was Link from Ocarina of Time
But an actual Old Link in flesh cannot be done
How the F can Link meet his previous reincarnation/transmigration?
In Twilight Princess it was possible because it where the Gods that made the 2 Links meet in that Spiritual World/Astral Plane
The only way to be able to meet a Living Old Link would be
(1)You don't play as Link (or at least you play as the Old Bearded Link
      Or
(2)if there is some Temporal/Interdimensional Shenanigans going on
      Or another alternative would be
(3)Like how Madara and Sasuke meet
Madara died and Indra transmigrated into Sasuke but then He (Madara) resurrected and meet Sasuke
Ps: this would be possible if Link was not a Reincarnation of the Hyrule Hero/Past Links but a Transmigration

In the Zelda Twilight princess there are 4 golden spirits(I think that they called) First Lanayru that represent goddess Nayru, Second Eldin that represent goddess Din and Third Faron who represent goddess Farore. But there is one spirit left Ordona. Who is the fourth goddess? So you find something please explain this. In the Ocarina of Time there is nothing mention who is the Ordona please if you find something explain please.
You think that TP Link have any connection between Link the hero of time or zelda Majora's mask?

I'm often interested in the Hyrulian Royal Family, despite how little they tend to feature on such games, apart from the princess, herself. Since we don't know anything about the King and Queen of Hyrule, in TP, like what happened to them, that Princess Zelda is in charge, meeting someone who is close with her, especially in the game that sort of put her off to the side, to flesh out Midna, is neat. It's not "how is Princess Zelda (LoZ) the reincarnation of Hylia if Princess Zelda (AoL) is still alive, oh, and now there's two of them active at once!", bur fun background of NPCs is something that I, as a D&D Dungeon Master love.
It's weird that someone had copious money to spend on Skull Necklaces, and a desire to do so. It's a shame Link couldn't do that, considering how much a certain other referenced miscreant charges to translate charts, in the original release of Wind Waker.
It's always nice to see references to the oldest games, where I started with Zelda, so thank you for that!
