The Savaji community, settled for centuries in Karnataka, traces its ancestry to a race of warriors, originally from Maharashtra, and therefore it only seems natural that meat, especially mutton, forms an important part of their diet.
Hotel Savaji’s Bengaluru pays allegiance to its owner, Narasingsa Kathare’s Savaji culinary roots, when he got into this business 25 years ago owing to circumstances, unable to find a job despite possessing an engineering degree and mba. He began his eatery cooking all dishes himself, wIth recipes gleaned subconsciously having watched his grandmother cook in his ancestral home in Hubli. Therefore, not surprisingly, the flavours are the sort that one would find in a Savaji household in North Karnataka, the food cooked in a set up that quite resembles a home kitchen, not by professional chefs, but a small team of people who moved from Hubli to join Narasingsa. I step in here for a delicious meal of a sumptuous, mutton thali with the softest kaima unde, tasty chicken masala, mutton dry fry and other dishes. If you like your meaty preparations, albeit spicy, this is certainly a place to check out Savaji cuisine in Bengaluru.
This tiny eatery isnt easy to locate, hidden on the first floor of a nondescript building in a bylane of Rajajinagar. But once you ve eaten here, the flavors are the sort that will be permanently ‘landmarked’ on your palate.
Hope you enjoy this episode. Take care; stay safe and strong. Happy eating!

I am vegetarian. But my mouth is watery just seeing the gravy. My family stayed in Savaji's home for rent till we moved to our own house. They were very good people and I remember them serving me the sherwa to have with rice. Asking do you want to eat chichi. Chichi means meat in kid's language. Also you should try yedmii made by Sa people. It's the best and a rare food.

I am a eggitarian (if thats a thing) and your video was certainly tempting to go try this place. Nice one !

It's not just the food of India that I learn about, it's the vast and varied cultures as well. The Savaji's, being warriors, were permitted to eat meat, yet still appear to be Hindus. It seems to be the same with many of the Sikhs, who love their meat, and own a lot of the best non veg eateries. I cannot forget all the military hotels that you've visited too.
It shows how valued the warriors were in India's long history and adds more flavour to the country's story.

Good morning dear Kripal - Looking forward to the Savaji cuisine Vlog 👍 Oh they descend from the SSK community - Didn’t know this - Wow - So warrior community 👍🙏 Yet another wonderful story shared by the owner . This is what makes your vlogs so engrossing and engaging 👍👍 Beware of the Sherwa dear Kripal 😅😅 In a few minutes I expect you to take your hat off 😀 Their kitchen looks relatively simple yet I am sure would be dishing out loads of flavourful dishes 😋 True that in fact in a normal Egg curry we have to forcibly eat the boiled egg with the curry to give it a flavour . This eatery uses an innovative technique to ensure that the egg soaks in the complete flavour of the masala 👍👍 So sweet of you to walk up to the patrons and getting their inputs 👍👍 Yes chief you need bat for a longer time to savour the Savaji cuisine . Fabulous description of each and every dish even before you took a bite - So we could already sense what’s coming - Wow !! That mutton dish looks awesome and glistening 👌😋”Proverbial pot of Gold” on the first dish itself 😀 Is the “Kat” like the Rasa of a Misal ? Post the class green curry Chicken dish - it’s time for their traditional Egg Curry - I am already super drooling 🤤 Fab work by your camera person - Nitin - I believe to provide such close up shots - especially the Mutton Roast just popped out of my TV 😀😀 Finger licking dishes indeed - 😋😋 So you have tried the Jowar Roti , Layered Chappathi and Now a Crisp Roti ( a la Kori Roti ) - Hats off to you for not taking your hat off - I was wrong 😀 Thoroughly enjoyed this fabulous Savaji Cuisine Vlog 👍👍 Too good 👍 Take care . Stay safe and Much love and respect to one and all 👍👍🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏❤️❤️❤️❤️

Happy you enjoyed this one too, Rajesh, certainly a special meaty episode. I shot this a couple of months ago and even as I watch this, my tastebuds fondly remember the dishes. The kat is the film of oil that floats on top, quite delicious, because it carries with it the flavour of the spices and the meat juices that have rendered in the cooking.
