- The Corvette C6 is the only car that raced in GT1, GTE (GT2), GT3 and GT4.
So I've made this video to compare the sound and looks of the 4 versions.

I remember seeing the GT1 at Silverstone in 2010, it was like an earthquake was making its way around the track they were so loud!
yep, sadly the sound of them just doesn't translate well on high quality cameras, because they're like fireworks or explosions, you feel it in your chest

GT3 & GT4 are both done by Callaway Competition. The GT1 & GTE by Pratt&Whittney. Than there is a Grand-Am-pre-GT3-Version done by Riley if I remember correctly
I saw one of the GT-1 cars race and it was so loud. You could feel the exhaust sound pulsing through your body.
I don't know if you Sir had the chance to attend an F1 race in 2004 or 2005 but it's the SCARIEST and LOUDEST sound I've ever witness to feel, like the noise from 5-8 kilometers and just like 25m in the stands was surreal
@@Random63R400 I have not ever heard a f-1 car in person. I’ve heard that in the v10 era the sound was like sticking your head in a blender (in a good way😀).
Same when they came to race here in Baltimore Grand Prix. The entire downtown was shaking from the 2-3? C6s going flatout

There may be better sounding cars than a vette gt1 but nothing can damn near knock the wind out of you like those beasts.

I wounder the lap comparisons between those four classes, I'm pretty sure GTE and GT3 are not even far off from each other.
Within the current regulations for gtlm and gt3 cars, they're roughly around 2 seconds apart between pro cars, with the coming 2022 sro gt3 regulations, gt3 cars are going to be quite fast. Maybe then they'll have a second or less behind gtlm cars.
Qualifying lap times at Spa:
GT1: 2:17.605 (2010 GT1 World Championship)
GT2/GTE: 2:20.944 (2013 WEC)
GT3: 2:26.087 (2011 Belcar 12 Hours)
GT4: 2:35.101 (2011 GT4 European Cup)
Interlagos:
GT1: 1:29.296 (LMS) / 1:32.4 (GT1 World)
GTE: 1:35.185 *GTE-AM* (WEC)
GT3: 1:35.160 (GT Brasil).
@@Maxellero Quite interesting, if you look at the current times set by gt3 cars at Spa you wouldn't think that from setting 2:26's to 2:18's would be possible. I remember watching the 2014 24h of Spa and a the time the only gt3 car that could take on eau rouge/raidillon at full throttle was the marc vds bmw z4 gt3 and now pretty much any pro driven car does.

GT1 sound is the best
GTE widebody is magnificent
hehe... all are Widebodys... special on the GT1 car is, that you dont see thats a widebody. the whole front and back has the same width than Gt2/Gt3/GtE The proportions of the GT1 is the same like Z06, but over all over 70mm wider. Even the headlights are bigger on the GT1 instead all others, to match the rest of the bigger car.

Very cool video! Footage of the GT4 C6 is rare, wether it's with or without the wing (early version). And as a matter of fact, I know only of two onboards from it on TH-cam (wingless and h-pattern, no sequential as the cars in this video iirc)
I’m 19 right now and my dream car is a C6 Z06… I want to do a GT1 style build mainly to track. I’m working on building up a business to be able to make that dream come true, but the wait is hard indeed 😂

Having experienced GT3 multiple times, I still can‘t imagine what GT1 must sound like 😳😅
The last time I saw the GT1 cars was during alms mid ohio in 2008, and I was only 5, so I don't remember much, but I defintitely do remember the gt2 car being very similar, and also incredibly loud

GT4 is like the low-level entry into racing isn't it? They're basically production cars with weight reduction and simple track setup.

GT3 is the best one. GT1 is just ear splitting noise but the GT3 has an actual unique tone while still sounding like a Corvette.

Sounds good but one of the best race cars in recent years has to be the screaming 991 race cars a few years back. Anyone who saw those in person knows what I'm talking about

GTE sounds best on the power, GT3 sounds best on the down shift
Gt1 is least restricted, so don't they get to use the big ol 7.0L?
They did in the states in the AMLS races.
GT1 was allowed to 8.0 L maximum,but later where exceptions in USA,and I'm don't know much about GT2 (6.0 L?)
Applying VIPER FACTOR:Prime Time Race Group was used a Dodge Viper Competition Coupe modified for GT2 and ALMS was allowed this car with the same production Viper engine of this generation,an 8.3 L unit
its about the combination of powerband, most HP and efficient engine (fuelecon.) They use 7L but shift at 5700rpm. Gt2 is 6L, later 5.5L. Restrictor from Gt2 is smaller as well as the GT1 one.

GT1 has way more Downforce than GT2 back in tha time and more 120 more HP as well. Gt1 on c6 Steelframe, others on Alu frame. Suspension and rocker arms from Gt1 and Gt2 is the same. the width of Gt1 and Gt2 is the same.
How come the GT3 and GT4 sounds so weak when compared with GTE / GT1?
Just down to how the engines were built for each variant. Each class mandated something, so each engine got prepared differently, some being closer to the stock engines than others. I do believe the GT1 and GTE have a more thoroughly modified variant of the LS7 the C6 mounted, in the GT1s case being an absurd powerplant that sounded like it was SUMMONED instead of built. But yeah, it's that. Different classes, different requirements, therefore different specs.
sound had nothing to do with the Engine. Just the exhaust and silencer Design. Engines of each class are different, but thats nothing what the sound effects

None of these three are complete silhouette tube frame, right?
no tube frame like some american or australia series. All cars based on real streetcar chassis. GT1 Steelchassis from C6, the other Aluchassis from Z06 or Zr1

The GT1 C6.R is the fastest and least restricted. The engine can make well over 800hp but is limited to 5,400rpm to meet the restrictions for power
The C6-ZR1 GTE has the best handling. It's the most wide and has the most grip. GTE class allows the cars to have wider bodies so it has a widebody and thicker tires.
The C6 Z06R GT3 is a faster version of the road-going Z06 Corvette.
The C6 GT4 is well... the road car.

GT1 is high performance and down force, GT3 and GTE are fairly similar just gt3 has less downforce and more top speed GTE has more down force less speed and GT4 has less hp than base model of the car with a small downforce package
Corvette sound no replacement for displacement bar none I love this generation of race car bar none the best of the best

Theres still a C7 GT3 racing in the ADAC GT Masters. There where 2 C7s since 2017, one winning the championship. But in 2020 one of them changed manufacturer. The one driven by Callaway Competition was still doing pretty good last season.
Didn`nt know that Corvette had gone electric 🤔 … that GT4 sounds electric compared to the GT1 …
The first two sounded like big blocks and the latter two like small blocks. Judging by RPM.

Gt1 raced with the mc12s; 4 hour races
Gte raced with the dbr9; lemans, spa etc
Gt3 was rare but early days gt3;
Gt4 is self explanitory
The c5 sounds better than all these
I know it is the way of the future but its an odd feeling that corvette is a mid engine car now days.
what are the differences between gt 1-4?
GT1: is a 427 CI (7l) engine about 600 HP max 6000 RPM, and that's with the tiny air restricters. Carbon ceramic brakes, lots of parts different from the road car. Car based on the C6 Z06. GT2/GTE: started of with a 6l engine later 5.5l (rules....) about 500hp. different aero bits, steel brakes. car based on the C6 ZR1. GT3: 7l engine which is mostly stock, revs higher than the GT1 and makes about 500hp. aero is much more restricted compared to GT1 and even GTE. Rear exhaust (muffled) instead of side exhaust. GT4: basicly a road car with upgraded parts and bits for racing. very close to a road car.

@@mays316 hey now that I can understand. It’s weird hearing Ferrari esque noises from a car that you’ve known the sound of for decades. Almost unsettling. But man when that thing flys by, hits a downshift and you feel it in your gut, white flames out the exhaust, you grow to love it all the same. Even though it’s so different
