The beauty of scrapbooking or memory keeping is that you do what makes you happy. I am one of those scrapbooking grannies, and my style has evolved over my 30 years in the craft. I love to watch other people work on pages but I don’t feel pressure to follow if it doesn’t bring me joy. Don’t look down on others’ choices, just do your thing.

Most scrapbookers do use mixed media items on their layouts. What you're doing is called a junk journal or a "Smash" book. Smash book is a name brand of junk journals from several years ago.
In the end it’s all there for the same reason though. “SCRAPbook” and “JUNK journal” are synonymous. And of course they use mixed media items in their layouts that’s why I’m saying it.
