@BelatedCommiseration I think they were going to have the Rod Hull character all through the 2nd series, but as the real Rod Hull died just before it, they scrapped the idea and brought back Simon Quinlank instead.
You know, Paul Putner actually does make the orange quite sympathetic, I remember him being crushed, but I almost hoped he wouldn't be! I think they should have had Rod Hull on more often, I'm sure those strange whimpering cum covetous noises he makes are off something...gremlins maybe? And the bit where they are laughing has definitely got to have some provenance as it looks like a reference, but where from?
Not to sound like a grumpy 'political correctness gone mad' man but I don't think a show like this could be made today. It's a shame really, but it seems like the BBC have become much stricter and intervene a lot more often in the production of comedy series. It looks like they received a lot of freedom here, which probably wouldn't happen now. It also seems like the BBC is becoming more interested in ratings and accessibility than artistic value, which would be a blow to comedy.
i love re-watching this show, cant thankyou enough for uploading these
I really hope these get released properly on DVD like Fist of Fun. These are so good.
only just noticed he smokes/eats a different drug for brekkie in every episodes opening sequence
