I got a call from an Apple phone number many years ago, but didn’t provide any information. I said you called me so you should know. I called Apple back and they said they never call customers unless the customer initiated the call. We simply cannot fall for old tactics no matter what new twists they come up with. If you didn’t call Apple, then don’t do anything. If you’re attacked, don’t respond, call Apple support yourself.

Same thing here, about 2 years ago I remember getting a scam call, the scammers have been ghosting the legit Apple customer support number for a while. They gave me the BS line that my account had been hacked and that I needed to provide some information to verify my account so they could "Protect" my account.
I asked the scam-caller what was the email associated with my account and she gave an old yahoo email account that I didn't use anymore. Thankfully a couple years before this happened I switched the email associated with my Apple ID to a more recently created and acquired account. I told the scamster that she was FOS, and that she was a low-life pile of cow plop for what she was trying to do, and I told her that a bus was going to run her over within a week because of bad Karma, and then she hung up on me.
I had known all along that Apple does not initiate phone calls to customers unless customers have pre-arranged a call back at a specific time.

I did that. They called me asking questions about me and I asked them how are you calling me but asking me about my number? They said we just want to verify this is you. I said you just did. Now what? The "now what" question ran into a "uh... uh... uh..." I just hung up the phone. But I will tell you that I love the one where they say the police are on their way to get because I haven't paid an IRS outstanding balance. And to avoid prosecution just pay what I owe. I told the Scott, from India 😏, I'll check to see if that's true because I do work for a DA's office and I have access to everything. He had the audacity to hang up on me! HOW RUDE!

He doesn’t know how to check description for links etc. I am clicking on them then sharing with him. He sd yesterday it told him iCloud password had to be reset but he found a way to delete message and carry on. He fell for a scam last week about his data being hacked and gave sensitive information to a criminal that said they needed him to let a 55k transfer of his investment money go through to scammer so the FBI could catch them! Luckily I found out. Unplugged PC and he took into Geek Squad. When he got suspicious he googled their number and called first one that came up. That was the scammer number! All because he got an email saying he was being hacked. Dk why is Webroot internet security didn’t catch email. Need to check into that for him asap.

The biggest takeaways I got were to know that Apple will NEVER contact you about anything - UNLESS you were just on a support call with them and you got disconnected and you asked to be called back. Also, change your Apple ID email address to a new email address (just create a brand new email address in google or whatever you use) - and that email is ONLY used for your Apple ID. Also, NEVER give information to anyone over the phone (even IF you think it really is Apple or the bank or whatever). Always hang up, look up the number of the institution and call them to check if there are any issues with your account. I already knew all this (except for this particular scam and the idea to create a new email address just for your Apple ID).

He then asked me for the credit card number I used with my bank account for quote verification purposes unquote. At that point I told him I would call back to the support number that he had called from. He did not want me to do that. And that's when I ended the call.

how do you get rid of an apple @iCloud email address? It says that you can't change the iCloud address associated with your Apple ID but that's pretty stupid on apple's side since if that iCloud email address is leaked, you can change your non iCloud email address but can't change the iCloud address that you had originally started your apple account with.
