Wow ! I am learning playing as well as theory for # 4 years and most times get frustrated (feel I'm real stupid) trying to figure out the chords. I feel better now that it's not just me being perplexed and it takes years.
Thanks for the useful tips. I noticed that you didn't actually play the 11 in the 13 chord. Presumably because it would have sounded horrible. It's only ever really there, in a chord extending from a major triad, as a #11. Jazz harmony takes this into account, as I'm sure you know.. You could have Fmaj7/ G or G sus4, (maj7, 9, 13) or Gmaj7 (9, #11, 13). I think that Stravinsky and Shostakovich might sometimes have included the flattened ninth between notes 3 and 11 of a major chord but they were pretty punky and even they would have used it as a dissonance.
