    Here in East Tenn gas is 2.09 today. Diesel was going for 2.99. Thats a very professional looking install from what we can see. I know the diesel is good on longevity and mileage but from what little I know I would favor the Bostig 4-cyl Ford.

      Most likely people I see build out a vw tdi get at least 50mpg which makes up the price difference but I don’t know they their mileage is so bad

    When you drive a lot of backroads and slow speeds you have to count engine hours, not distance for your maintenance intervals.

    I have seen lots of ecotec conversions on buggys? Arent there any ecotec Vanagons or Kombis?

    Did he share with you the cost of the conversion? Was it installed by the Boxeer folks or someone locally?

      He got Boxeer to do it. It wasn't cheap. I think I remember $10k, but I can check with him if you are interested. Boxeer is usually very busy and doesn't want to do installs but he talked them into it.

      @@VanAgain I was more just curious - that's a long way away from me, and my engine is still going strong. It does seem like a nice way to go, though.

    4 years later any problems?

    • @VanAgain
      @VanAgain  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes. Fuel tank was not replaced. Switched from gasoline to diesel. Water got in fuel tank. Water destroyed engine. New fuel tank and engine had to be installed. Customer sold the van.

      Wow, that’s terrible, what a horrible ending to this story. Obviously, it makes one wonder, how could BOXEER not be taking care of this as part of the conversion from the beginning?

    • @alexanderblanco1757
      @alexanderblanco1757 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      After that incident I know that if you bring a regular vanagon into boxeer they will ask you to replace the fuel tank , if you have a syncro no need since the tank is plastic and also no risk of water damage

    I would say the biggest downside of having a professional conversion done like this is the cost even if diesel fuel was the same price or a little bit cheaper and only an extra maybe 10 or 15 miles to the gallon you're going to have to drive a couple laps around the world to actually recoup your money. I don't see the return on investment in dollars ever paying off. Out of curiosity what was the cost of that conversion

    • @VanAgain
      @VanAgain  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I don't know for sure but I would guess between $12-15k. And because they had a water contamination problem in the fuel tank, about a year later the engine grenaded.
