The vibe im getting from the title track is that taylor is calling matty a pretentious mf like he brought a whole ahh typewriter to her house, smoked and discussed about how charlie puth should be bigger... idk
I prefer not to bring real life people into these analysis, but I agree with you about the character in the song. Also, she's not talking of eating chocolate, it's a slang way to refer to dark hashish, especially in Europe, and I think you can definitely weirdly praise Puth and then pass out like a doggo after that.
OMFG that was my exactly thought listening to this song, and I feel like the charlie puth part, when she says "we declare", I think she means like when you pretend to like something or someone to have something in common with your crush, like "sure sweetie of course charlie puth should be a bigger artist, i couldn't agree more", and ratty has the FACE of a pretentious sad boy who likes to say he's a feminist but in the end he's way worse than normal guys
He does in fact own a typewriter… and I can fully see him lugging that thing too and from her house cossss idk, pretentiousness, thinking he’s super artsy etc
@amydougies3852 as a writer I can totally understand the wish of buying/having a typewriter, but it does not sound genuine coming from him, especially cause he brought to her house like??¿? you really use that thing that much? or you needed her to think you use it? It's written pretentious all over it
Ok but "He jokes that it's heroin but this time with an E" (Drug reference? Doesn't sound like Travis at all) "Cause the sign on your heart said it's STILL reserverd for me" (Travis is the one who came up to her, she didn't have to wait so "still reserved" feels very odd. He also made his intentions clear from the very beginning then why say that?) She literally never interacted with Travis until recently. Everything sounds very out of place. If you switch the narrative to Matty Healy these "gaps" all start to make sense.

It's normal to feel numb the first listen lol we all went through it. This album is her most vulnerable, people are saying because it's like the words are right from her diary. Messy and jumbled. This album is a grower for sure. Upon each listen, not an instant click but after many listens, you start to understand where she's coming from. Thank you for reacting! Looking forward to the second part! Definitely the stronger half, imo.
I gave it a 6/10 on first listen and said i probably wouldn't listen to it again. By that night it had crept up to a 9/10 and I CANNOT stop listening to it
I will also add the album does get getter on re-listens. Plus with the context it makes a lot of songs (specifically The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived, Clara Bow, The Black Dog, and Cassandra) stand out more overall. You may not get it the first time. But after repeat listens it easily turns into Taylors most repeatable album since 1989.
I feel like this album feels weird because it is mixing Midnights with Evermore, especially with the anthology being entirely different from the main album. A rare combination for sure, not digestible for everyone. I personally love it more as time goes, but I got to admit I felt the same way in the first listen.
25:00 Lol I know what a soliloquy is (and I've heard of sanctimoniously before but barely remember it) just because of reading Romeo and Juliet in high school/9th grade and I think it's genius. It's because it emphasizes the fact that Taylor is basically saying people online/haters are writing long ass monologues & paragraphs trying to prove that they are in the right, that she will never see because she's so popular and has too many comments/haters to see every single one of them (not that she even cares at this point because there is so many of them). Like if she wrote "you write paragraphs that ill never see", it won't have the same emphasis idk- maybe it just makes more sense to me because I already knew what it meant lol

I agree with you for the most part. I hate the fact that TTPD for the most part is just collection of the sounds present on all of her 2020s albums, including re-recordings, sicne we got synths very reminiscent of 1989 (Taylor's Version), as well as guitar play of folklore. And that's so cool to see someone finally acknowledging that she uses these "fancy" words just for the sake of being fancy. When she did it back on "Welcome to New York" then it was okay, because it was a one-time thing, and maybe it boosted people's knowledge of such word as kaleidoscopic, but when almost every song has not one but multiple random words it's just off-putting, and I'm shocked that no poet came for her just telling her that what she did is not art. It's form over substance. However, the tipping point for me was "loml". First of all, I'm a sucker for good piano ballad like "New Year's Day" for example, but this one is just a drag. And on my second listen when I was freestyling review for my friend I've wrote this about "loml": Taylor here is trying to prove us that she's so smart lyricist giving us impression that she will sing about love of her life, but the title is abbreviation of "loss of my life", which is reveiled at the end of the song. Really, impossible. Noone would've guessed it. It's the first example of Taylor not only hitting the ceiling, but smashing her head on it. And also if we're talking about switching last chorus in oposition of its previous counterparts, we need to talk about Fearless and its lead single "Love Story". Maybe it was quirky and girly, but she nailed the switch-up there, while here, with this minimalist production nothing seemed exciting. And speaking of that album, this song sound straight-up like "White Horse", but worse.
oh i also still cannot get into the title track....that and the alchemy are at the very bottom for me, BUT i am obsessed with guilty as sin and florida and also really love loml, smallest man, down bad, and my boy i think now. and a few from the anthology i really love too! also, would love to see a reaction to chappell roan if you haven't listened to her! her debut album the rise and fall of a midwest princess is absolutely incredible. she's so fun, campy, silly, clever, smart, etc, and her latest single good luck, babe! is also perfect
Well you didn’t end up getting an eating box reference on this album but Taylor does reference “going solo” in Guilty As Sin if you know what I mean (see: chorus before the bridge) 🤭

I think this album is for the hardcore swiftie that are very familiar with the TS lore. It is not for the average swifties or the general public. And at the first listen, I did not like it too much. But the more I listen to it, the more I understand the meaning of those songs, the more I enjoy it. But I gotta admit, not everyone has the patient to let the album grow on them.
Are you planning on reacting to the anthology part, or have you just heard it by yourself instead? I really think you would enjoy it, based on your other fave Taylor songs! Loved this reaction BTW, I like how you can be honest about your opinion whilst still respecting her as an artist!
I wasn’t into it at first, but after a few listens… wow, it turned into my favorite album of hers. It just keeps getting better. I’d even say this album aged like fine wine.
Thank you for getting to Taylor, I've been waiting for you reaction! Tis album is so tricky. First listen I did not like any of it that much, I was very dissapointed honestly. There is not a single hit song, out of 31 tracks. There are also way to many songs. Now though, Poets Standard edition is in my top five, but I find Anthology to be significantly weaker. I suggest give a couple of the longer songs from Poets a couple of extra listens. Daddy I Love Him and Smallest Man were real growers for me, and Broken Heart had the same journey as Bejeweled, meaning first I hated it, now I love it.
I always thought with the charlie puth line is when people start talking nonsense when theyre high or drunk. I feel this album is really like a diary and she just needed to spill it all esp the last song on The anthology really sums it all up!
40:20 SO TRUE. Listen, it's fun to dissect the lyrics and find the story, but at the end of the day it's much more impactful how the songs make us feel, not who they're about. That being said, to have two albums worth of content where 95% is about a summer failed fling and only about 2% is about a six year relationship must suck low-key, damn. (The resting 3% is just unhinged behavior lmao).
Really late to the party, I know, but I do hope you'll give the Anthology disc a try some day. A lot of people seem to think it's better than the main album. It's also very Aaron Dessner-heavy, so it feels and sounds like a completely different album too.
I love Taylors big words. It never goes over my head and my favorite lyric on The album Is sanctumoniously performing soliloquies that I'll never see because first of all, I did understand what that meant.I've heard all of those words way more than one time in my life and on top of that.Who says that in a song?I love that I don't think that's a bad thing.I think that's makes Taylor's music even better. That she says things like that in a song.I love it!!!
well tbh i knew what sanctimoniously performing soliloquies meant on the first go lmao. but yeah, album is a huge grower, it'll be nice to see your 2 week later reaction type of shit :)
Yes bestie so excited to see ur reaction to this! Also writing this before watching all the video and i'm excited to see what u think of this album bc i was NOT a fan lol
YOOOOOO UR BACKKK IVE BEEN MISSING U AND UR FUNNY ASS JOKES :DD honestly i dont blame u or anyone for the mixed feelings of this album, it is kinda interesting and goofy sometimes. its definitely a grower i will say that. on my first listen, i was kinda just trying to process everything, which can sometimes be rlly hard. especially for me lollll. going back and relistening to some songs and then eventually the full album, HOLY SHIT. IT FUCKING HIT LIKE BULLETS BRO. everything just feels sm more sadder and darker than i originally thought?? and both this album and the anthology have hit rlly hard for me, bc ive been going thru hard shit for a good while now. both these albums kinda just like, gets it yk??? and it took me a good while to just realize that- but yea i have a much brighter view of this album now and i actually REALLY LOVE this album this definitely seems like one of taylor's most personal albums, and the additional silly lines or parts make it kinda feel like that even more? i dont rlly know how to explain lollll but sometimes i do like them! (idk abt the charlie puth line tho cuz girl we all know damn well hes fine the way he is...) yea enough yapping from me now- great to see u back :D
give the album 4 or 5 listens then maybe you'll hear something more from it because for me the first few listens i dont feel it but after a few more times everything sorta comes togetherfrom the lyrics to the lore to the productions and the instrumental
“touchdown, call the amateurs and cut them from the team” -so no travis song? DUDE 😂😂😂😂😂 and ALSO I loved when she said “he jokes that’s heroin but this time with an e” cause like… that’s travis touching on rumors about ratty using heroin but then saying taylor is a heroine I MEAAAAAN 😂
I think this is her best album and on first listen I think you thought it was better than I did ... lol, so yeah, you can't judge it first listen, it just keeps getting better and better the more you listen.
So..... i watched a live stream of her first night back in Paris because i figured she was gonna add TTPD to the set list and sure enough!!! But i was begging her not to do LOML and she did it as a Acustic song 💔💔😭😭😭
although I 100% agree some complicated lyrics are there just because, I actually think that’s not the case for the “soliloquies” phrase. I think the reason this bridge is over complicated is because she took her lyricism to the extreme to distance herself from people/fans that spend time criticizing her while she is so much more than what is portrayed of her, that she doesn’t even access those comments. It’s almost like she used her best vocab and put an extra effort on purpose to make a point: “your bitching is nothing compared to to where I am at, it is useless because I have a richer garden to look up to”, if that makes sense.
I don't know why you or Ht Hazes did not react more when you heard So long London, like I did. It's that sad moment of resignation when you realize something's over, you just want to run out of there. You are past the hysterics and the crying of the breakup, and you just feel empty and disoriented. And its not so much as breaking up with a guy, it's breaking up with everything that was attached to him, like in this case the city. It was such a great portrayal of that. Edit- like you both expected it to be more super emotional about a breakup, but I think it was more realistic that it showed that your emotions are drained when it's finally over.
honestly i think most people wont get so long london unless theyve been through an experience just like what the song represents. its one of my personal favorites because it so accurate described what i went through at times.
I actually really like how the title track was placed within the album, it was an interesting switch up from the first song. I always view the title track and the first track as sitting the "vibe". That is why I like it, fortnight was quite poetic and dreamy, but the title track represents the other, less 'serious' and less poetic part of the album. I think its great that she inculded that as most of her fans tend to only categorize albums like folklore and evermore as purely poetic and albums like 1989 and midnights as only pop synths. Personally, this was a nice introduction to a duel of the album not taking itself too seriously to in-depth songs
You commented on the weird and wordy lyrics. I think that's on purpose. She referred to herself as the Chairman of TTPD, so she also is writing tortured poetry about her situationship.
In your breakdown of the title track you say she has these beautiful lyrics and then random words and it is messy. You are Correct. She was messy, and I think that is part of the point. As a 50 year old Swiftie who has had life fall apart in an epic fashion a few times, I feel these lyrics. I never had to do it with the entire world watching and judging however.
I get that the “queen of sandcastles” line might be a little corny to some, but to me, it’s such a creative way of writing something really heartbreaking. Like, a sandcastle is something that you have to build up, put effort into making and spend time on. But if she’s the queen of the sandcastles he destroys, she’s basically saying that he would build her up and make her happy only to later on “destroy” her or in this case leave her when he couldn’t deal with her. This also ties into Down Bad where she says “tell me I was the chosen one, then sent me back where I came from”. So I think the line kinda sets the tone for one of the main issues in the relationship and why it was even harder for her when it ended. But this is of course just my take:)
tbh, this album is supposed to be a grower, and the critics are agree about this album redefining the critic industry, like they shouldn't critics about an album that fast, right after the album just dropped and never really get times to enjoy it, so maybe you should listen to it more and knowing the stories behind the songs, and you'll get the album Ps, I'm using computer to comment rn, so my words looks mad, but i'm really appreciate about the normal kinds of audience's opinion.
I can’t unread the comment that said “Joe couldn’t even get a lead role on his own breakup album” LOL💀
lmao
I believe Midnights was his main break up album (Hits Different, You’re Losing Me, The Great War), and he gets featured in TTPD

And on my second listen when I was freestyling review for my friend I've wrote this about "loml":
Taylor here is trying to prove us that she's so smart lyricist giving us impression that she will sing about love of her life, but the title is abbreviation of "loss of my life", which is reveiled at the end of the song.
Finally you uploaded 🤧 I was waiting for your reaction for so long!! ✨
ik!! i been so busy but im back now :))
I haven't listened to it bc I was waiting for your video😭
lmaooo im sry :(
Okay i know im late but for the ttpd lyrics she compared him to a golden retriever dogs are allergic to chocolate its a metaphor for self sabotage
wuhhhhhh
oh i also still cannot get into the title track....that and the alchemy are at the very bottom for me, BUT i am obsessed with guilty as sin and florida and also really love loml, smallest man, down bad, and my boy i think now. and a few from the anthology i really love too!
also, would love to see a reaction to chappell roan if you haven't listened to her! her debut album the rise and fall of a midwest princess is absolutely incredible. she's so fun, campy, silly, clever, smart, etc, and her latest single good luck, babe! is also perfect
id love to cover chappell roan at some point!
Connection cuts out when people be vibing
Well you didn’t end up getting an eating box reference on this album but Taylor does reference “going solo” in Guilty As Sin if you know what I mean (see: chorus before the bridge) 🤭
Man vibing n looking like he's about to cry & then "yeah it was alright"😂
lmao
I think this album is for the hardcore swiftie that are very familiar with the TS lore. It is not for the average swifties or the general public. And at the first listen, I did not like it too much. But the more I listen to it, the more I understand the meaning of those songs, the more I enjoy it. But I gotta admit, not everyone has the patient to let the album grow on them.
i agree
Are you planning on reacting to the anthology part, or have you just heard it by yourself instead? I really think you would enjoy it, based on your other fave Taylor songs! Loved this reaction BTW, I like how you can be honest about your opinion whilst still respecting her as an artist!
yes i plan on making a vid on the anthology soon! and im so glad u enjoyed this one :))
You had me at Mr Freeze. That’s when I realised I’ll love this video.
🥹
you are so iconic to me fr

YAY THE KING HAS POSTED

I wasn’t into it at first, but after a few listens… wow, it turned into my favorite album of hers. It just keeps getting better. I’d even say this album aged like fine wine.
At the end of guilty as sin? She says am i allowed to cry? And i say nah jitch everytime 🤣🤣
lmao
(The resting 3% is just unhinged behavior lmao).
lol i mean 95 is a little generous
I'm not there yet, but I hope Jason go crazy about "Guilty as Sin?"
Really late to the party, I know, but I do hope you'll give the Anthology disc a try some day. A lot of people seem to think it's better than the main album. It's also very Aaron Dessner-heavy, so it feels and sounds like a completely different album too.
Can Wait For The Anthology
I’VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS 🤍
YAYYYY
i was so mad when i heard this album thank you for saying all this someone really had to
🫡
When he said free space I thought it was a total miss to say blank space.
awwwwwwww now i wanna delete the whole video
I love Taylors big words. It never goes over my head and my favorite lyric on The album Is sanctumoniously performing soliloquies that I'll never see because first of all, I did understand what that meant.I've heard all of those words way more than one time in my life and on top of that.Who says that in a song?I love that I don't think that's a bad thing.I think that's makes Taylor's music even better. That she says things like that in a song.I love it!!!
totally fair!!
Love his videos so much❤
💛
well tbh i knew what sanctimoniously performing soliloquies meant on the first go lmao. but yeah, album is a huge grower, it'll be nice to see your 2 week later reaction type of shit :)
Hug your parents and thank them for letting you learn from teacher Taylor
my new favorite pass-time is watching people turn into swifties
Yes bestie so excited to see ur reaction to this! Also writing this before watching all the video and i'm excited to see what u think of this album bc i was NOT a fan lol
lmaooooo i think u will be happy w it then
Alchemy is just a fancy term for like potion making so u can understand it like chemistry
i do disagree w a lot but i def get where ur coming from.. love the review !! love u too outro ate
glad u liked it!!!
Definitely need an Anthology tracks reaction. You didn't even get to the Kim diss yet 😃
im so excited for it!!
YOOOOOO UR BACKKK IVE BEEN MISSING U AND UR FUNNY ASS JOKES :DD
honestly i dont blame u or anyone for the mixed feelings of this album, it is kinda interesting and goofy sometimes. its definitely a grower i will say that. on my first listen, i was kinda just trying to process everything, which can sometimes be rlly hard. especially for me lollll. going back and relistening to some songs and then eventually the full album, HOLY SHIT. IT FUCKING HIT LIKE BULLETS BRO. everything just feels sm more sadder and darker than i originally thought?? and both this album and the anthology have hit rlly hard for me, bc ive been going thru hard shit for a good while now. both these albums kinda just like, gets it yk??? and it took me a good while to just realize that- but yea i have a much brighter view of this album now and i actually REALLY LOVE this album
this definitely seems like one of taylor's most personal albums, and the additional silly lines or parts make it kinda feel like that even more? i dont rlly know how to explain lollll but sometimes i do like them! (idk abt the charlie puth line tho cuz girl we all know damn well hes fine the way he is...)
yea enough yapping from me now- great to see u back :D
great points!!! and glad to be back!
You should listen to Chappell Roan
🫡
give the album 4 or 5 listens then maybe you'll hear something more from it because for me the first few listens i dont feel it but after a few more times everything sorta comes togetherfrom the lyrics to the lore to the productions and the instrumental
maybe although ive already sat on it for a while tbh
“touchdown, call the amateurs and cut them from the team”
-so no travis song?
DUDE 😂😂😂😂😂
and ALSO I loved when she said “he jokes that’s heroin but this time with an e” cause like… that’s travis touching on rumors about ratty using heroin but then saying taylor is a heroine I MEAAAAAN 😂
🫣
I think this is her best album and on first listen I think you thought it was better than I did ... lol, so yeah, you can't judge it first listen, it just keeps getting better and better the more you listen.
So..... i watched a live stream of her first night back in Paris because i figured she was gonna add TTPD to the set list and sure enough!!! But i was begging her not to do LOML and she did it as a Acustic song 💔💔😭😭😭
the lines about smoking, eating 7 chocolate bars, tattooed golden retriever etc. is all about Matty Healy... same with like 90% of the album
yea lol
This is my fav Taylor album I think. I love it so much ❤
Fortnight - FOURTeen nights
😱
although I 100% agree some complicated lyrics are there just because, I actually think that’s not the case for the “soliloquies” phrase.
I actually did understand all the sophisticated words, but that’s because I’m an English major, so I’m an outlier 😂
oh well u dont count lol
Same😂 it's just a vocabulary situation, some people just know most of these words from reading
It gets better with every listen
Great reaction
glad u liked!
I feel like TTPD is for 1989,Reputation,Lover, and Midnights fans and The Anthology is for Speak Now, Red, Folklore, and Evermore fans
As a speak now Stan I love BOTH. Especially but daddy I love him ( no surprise there lol)
Edit- like you both expected it to be more super emotional about a breakup, but I think it was more realistic that it showed that your emotions are drained when it's finally over.
honestly i think most people wont get so long london unless theyve been through an experience just like what the song represents. its one of my personal favorites because it so accurate described what i went through at times.
lol i mean idt i didnt get it but i def see where u guys r coming from!
Holy shit was that a paragraph? I don't write this much in essays
haha but very well said! totally get where u r coming from
it has been almost a month since ttpd got out and I still dont like the title track despite it being catchy. THAT line just throws me off lmao
lmao
You commented on the weird and wordy lyrics. I think that's on purpose. She referred to herself as the Chairman of TTPD, so she also is writing tortured poetry about her situationship.
ig tht makes sense
To the stand....I love this
In your breakdown of the title track you say she has these beautiful lyrics and then random words and it is messy. You are Correct. She was messy, and I think that is part of the point. As a 50 year old Swiftie who has had life fall apart in an epic fashion a few times, I feel these lyrics. I never had to do it with the entire world watching and judging however.
thaat was my favourite but daddy i love him reaction
im honored
But this is of course just my take:)
thats a fair point :)
tbh, this album is supposed to be a grower, and the critics are agree about this album redefining the critic industry, like they shouldn't critics about an album that fast, right after the album just dropped and never really get times to enjoy it, so maybe you should listen to it more and knowing the stories behind the songs, and you'll get the album
Ps, I'm using computer to comment rn, so my words looks mad, but i'm really appreciate about the normal kinds of audience's opinion.
"I owe this woman my youtube career" many such cases❤
🫡
That porch light youve seen
i hate it here is so sad ( but i love it ). i love LOVE LOVE so high school. down bad gave me second hand embarrasment. are we getting a part two?
yes part 2 is coming!
Why did down bad give you second hand embarrassement😂
