    To help solve attaching your top grow light you can purchase neodymium magnets. Attach a few to the underside of the grow light and another to the top outside of the cabinet. These magnets are really strong and will hold the light to the cabinet. I use them in my cabinet. They will even hold the light to the glass shelves.

      I know exactly what you’re talking about!! I think I have some, so I’ll try it

    Get some large magnets and put on top of the cabinet then your lights will snap right up to them. Saw this on another TH-cam video.

      Yes! Benjiplant on TH-cam also showed how he did magnets!

    On the top, you can drill down to attach a C. It would hold the lamp strapped at both ends.

      I’m between trying this & magnets. If the magnets don’t work, the drilling 100% will

    Hi Erica. I do not have a cabinet with humility. I do have the ikea shelves in my living room, along with another ikea shelf that it is similar but only half the size. Our humidity runs about 45 to 50% during this time of year. The summer tends to be pretty humid in my state during the summer. Thanks for sharing all your knowledge. I would have never gotten my shelf’s had it not been for your videos. Take care.

      With all that humidity, those open shelves are perfect 😌 I think they are much easier to clean & fit a lot more plants 🪴

    I used weather stripping around the doors on mine and holds the humidity in nicely. Also I used a fountain instead of a humidifier. I love your wire shelving.

    So far since starting the plant collecting hobby I've stuck to having plants acclimate to my home so don't own a greenhouse cabinet myself atm though as I'm becoming a bit of a plant veteran I am starting to feel like I'm ready to take this hobby to the next level and invest in one. I have loads of Ikea billy cases which wouldn't survive being retrofitted for high humidity so I need to get rid of some of them for space but you've definitely helped given me some DIY inspiration with those Amazon shelves and the hole drilling.
    Looking forward to seeing your cabinet fill up with plants!

    I have a tall milsbo, 2 wide fabrikör, and a detolf. They are each good for different environments. Try magnets for the top, they work great!

    I have a 4x6 greenhouse in my basement. It has one of those reflective covers because there is no natural light down there. All grow lights. I am intrigued by your warm toned grow lights though, I might need to try those upstairs.

  • @davidc4162
    @davidc4162 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    If you’re still trying to keep the light in place I wanted to suggest silicone. It’s very strong and semi-permanent (unless you use a ton, then it’s permanent!). You could use just a few dots of the stuff made for windows/aquariums. Or you could use Sugru. In either case the light would need to be held in place while the silicone cures for about 2days.

    I have 2 Detolf that each have 3 grow lights. Only 1 has a small diffuser that has a timer. They work BRILLIANTLY for my needs! :) And my Alocasia Poly LOVES her personal diffuser!

    You might be able to use heavy duty magnets to atcah the top light . There are hook magnets on Amazon. I wouldn't trust command strips in there since the humidity might weaken the glue.

    Congrats on your new cabinet!!!! 💚🌿🌱🪴
    Few things I learned while setting my Milsbo up:
    Velcro command strips (12lb) from Amazon for mounting the lights. Works like a charm.....absolutely no issues 😉
    You can use the clear Command cord clips to wrangle all the cords.
    A fountain is also an option to create humidity.

    Very nice shelf and great video. I had an idea of how you could have your light in the top without tape. You know those screw in hooks you can get? you could drill 4 small pilot holes and use 4 get some chain and hang the light from that, no moisture damaging the tape glue with that, I hope this helps you, maybe your dad could assist you with that. I would like to get a green house for some of my trees in the future as it is a fascinating idea and I could see some of my smaller bonsai all the time. Your set up looks wonderful, if you ever want to have your cords neat try some cable ties they may help with tucking the cord away so the don't snag on plants and damage them. Have a good one.

    • @ErikaLodes
      @ErikaLodes  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’ve been going crazy w my drill, so I’ll see if I can try it that way! That would be super awesome if you got a green house for your trees!! It would be super magical ✨

    Is the top of the cabinet made out of wood? If it is, then for the top light how about using two little screw in hooks to screw into the top and then hang the light from the hooks with the little rings like are on the other lights? Little brass screw in hooks are very cheap.

    • @ErikaLodes
      @ErikaLodes  3 ปีที่แล้ว

    genuine question - is it safe having an electric fan like that on while exposed to water from the humidifier? I'm so eager to start a grow cabinet of my own, but that thought keeps me from going for it! thank you for the pointers :)

    • @ErikaLodes
      @ErikaLodes  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven’t had any problems at all, but I’m not electrician so it could potentially be dangerous? I think it’s fine tho. If it worries you, you can get a fan that creates mist at the same time & just use the fan function. Not sure if that’s efficient or if it would actually work, but I know they exist haha

    You don’t really need all the bells and whistle‘s. I have the RUDSTA cabinet. I didn’t have to put all that stuff in it. I have nothing no lights no humidifier no fans nothing inside of mine just my plants and in each corner of the two top shelves I have old small candle jars filled with water that’s how I get humidity inside the cabinet and my plants are going nuts with new growth. Also it right by a south west facing window.
