I know this may sound weird. But I applied for a vanity call sign, as soon as I got my license. Used my call sign for 18 days. Then received the vanity. It felt so weird leaving the old original I had been using for the last 18 days. So I went back. Lol.
Thanks Cody for the detail instructions, I tried a few other videos but they lost me then I found yours and it easily walked me through the process..73s
Took my tech test on Dec. 22. Got my call sign on Dec. 23 and applied for my vanity sign the same day. I had already checked AE7Q.com for availability. Thanks for the detailed instructions on how to do this...looking forward to the new sign.
I cannot find the FCC log in page or the license manager. I called the FCC and even the person I talked to could not direct me to the license manager. You skipped over HOW TO GET TO those pages. Can you direct me?

Just got my GMRS call sign recently and tried this. There is no link to the right allowing me to apply for a vanity call sign. Did they do away with this recently for GMRS?
I've been waiting for about 9 1/2 months for my tech license to show up in the database, so I can use my radios. Since they don't answer my emails, my vec doesn't seem to know what's going on(I'm gonna test in a different county next time) I was thinking about getting a new frn number and starting over and retaking the test in a different area, but what I was wondering is, since the FCC didn't want to give me a regular call sign, would it maybe be easier to ask for a vanity call sign next time around? I had heard the FCC was kinda hard to navigate, but I never thought it would take this long just to use amateur radio. ..

Just for advice I tell my students of this(I am an instructor)that the FRN not need to be memorized Because if they know their callsign FCC will show their FRN in the license Good video!
It's been over three weeks since I applied and paid for my vanity call sign. How much longer before I hear something back from the FCC? My requested call sign showed as available since 2012 and the back-up was available as well.
@@BridgeComSystemsInc I just got of the phone with the FCC. Here is what I found out... I have twice re-submitted my application with some changes. According to the FCC rep I spoke with, each time you re-submit the application, the processing time clock resets to zero and you are then waiting for another 18 to 24 days. The rep is sending me an email with instructions to delete my re-submissions which will put me back to the original processing time frame.

Great instructional for applying for a Vanity Call Sign. HOWEVER - You can't request just ANY Alpha-Numeric combination. Any chance you can address some of the formatting parameters? There is a page somewhere on the FCC site that has the "formula" and lists a few excluded letter arrangements, but it doesn't address location - IE Can I apply for a call sign whose alphanumeric arrangement indicates a location other than where my station is located? Thanks
I know vanity call sign are: W+max letters/numbers: What I was wondering is if "Wdecman" would be valid if not would "WPDP10 or WKI10 if one cant use I WKL10 or WKA10
None of the call signs that you suggest are valid. See the FCC's webpage titled "Amateur Call Sign Systems" and click on "Sequential Call Sign System."
I had a call sign assigned for my GMRS license but when I go to the same screen in order to click on "Request Vanity Call Sign", I don't get that section at all. I only have the "Update" link and section above it in that box on the right hand.
Tried 4 different times with numerous callsigns. Was denied every stinking time so I gave up! I did notice a few people seem to change thier callsign as often as they can........screws it up for the rest of us.
Not sure what "password" you're talking about. Another video also mentioned this "password" thing and I have no idea what this is. Added later: I finally got this FCC stuff straightened out and got my new callsign. WHAT a hassle.

2:56 An additional 18 day! :( I just passed the exam yesterday and have to wait 7-10 days to get my call sign. I was hoping I could apply for the vanity call sign I want now and get it assigned to me initially. Now I see that I have to wait 10+18=28 days for this. :( You can call me impatient if you want but I had to wait over a month to take the test because of the virus. :(

You didn't explain the rules for various license classes.
vanity call-sing is the same as gmrs licence if not what is the different ?
NO the ham license requires a test at different levels its not the public gmrs service but amateur radio.
Do you have to use numbers in your vanity callsign ?
Yes, a number needs to be in the call sign.
