As an economic model, there are many faults with it. Two important deviations from true hypercapitalism are these: Players can use PLEX to inject money (PLEX is an item used to trade virtual ISK to real currencies like the dollar) and PLEX prices are fixed by the devs (there's still a market for it in-game, but devs meddle in supply/demand).

Eve has been running so long that most original players have went from being students to having families and children. I know a young man who used to do some programming for the company I worked at back when he was in college, he went from being an eve player with a love for finance to becoming a quant at Two Sigma. Good lad. Eve really is a game like no other.

@@Jimrlst I think he occasionally plays and tries to keep up with the madness that is eve these days but he started a family a couple years back, between that and the tough intellectually taxing lifestyle that comes with quant positions at Two Sigma, he really doesn't have much time left for eve, I don't blame him either, when I was his age, I would also just want to really relax and rest my mind after a tough day at the lab. In a way, Two Sigma has become his Eve in real life, a way to keep that passion alive while getting paid well enough to support his family.

my dad was a massive eve player, he had multiple accounts, many spreadsheets. He had 6 computer monitors with 5 of them running his different eve accounts with his work on 1 of them. I remember him having meetings with his corp partners who were from all around the world. I don't know if he played it in the insane ways shown in this since I would only see him mining when in-game, but he had been playing since the game started. He paused his accounts recently but its insane how much time and effort people put into this game.

I've played eve online for around 12 years now and i have seen wars worth millions over shit like anime (the weeb war) or if the Leroy Jenkins meme was still relevant (I forgot what that one was called) and the players write the games lore and history and a lot of wars and stuff are litterally written in novels. Also I'm pretty sure the first titan you were talking about was named Steve.

I have a friend thats been playing even since basically the beginning and he has multiple accounts and multiple titans. Years ago when our friend group was going to start really trying to play. It was legit multiple real world months of skill training if you even wanted to consider being a titan pilot. Thats gross.

Eve is not a game in which within 2 months u have beaten the game, u must be patient, also, titans, are one of the biggest if not the biggest, ship that u can aim for, so u shoudnt be looking to get one of em as a newbro

A few other states without any income tax, sides Texas, are Alaska, Florida, Nevada, New Hampshire, South Dakota, Tennessee, Washington as well as Wyoming. Got a little bit of choices if you wanna go that kind of route.

A lot of times you’re gonna pay more in taxes other places though to make up for it (property taxes, etc.) Still less overall, but they gotta make their money somehow.

I was recruited early on into playing this game into a corp that ran themselves almost like police. We were at war with all the pirates in the area and we would take anyone even half good at combat and give them limitless cheap ships to fly into pirates. These pirates ran medium-high tier ships though that cost easily 100x- each of our basic ships, so we would intercept any raids we discovered or were called in on from friendly allied corps and just annoy the pirates with dozens of cheap little ships. We used good strategy too and had support ships and heavy hitters for the few high rank dudes who were veterans, and most every time the pirates would be left running and scared of losing their ships. Its been a while since i played and all this happened but i remember their best dudes ran a class of ship that when you blew it up would actually remove a few skills required to pilot it, as a way to keep people from just flying out in a new one immediately. We had one battle where we were fighting 2 of those after they tried and failed to run with the rest of their fleet, we swarmed them with 25-30 small fighters and the cheapest ones were flying back immediately to keep up the pressure and never let them get a chance to heal or escape, even though they were picking off a few of us here and there. It took around an hour i want to say but neither big ship escaped and we blew them both up and had some pissed off pirates for the rest of the day. And even with us losing dozens of fighters and couple larger specialized ships, we did the math and we lost 1/10th the money they did not even counting the time loss needed to retrain those skills for their lost ships. I agree that this game is super boring to play 95% of the time, but it does always make good stories if you get into the community.
The most expensive battle in EVE was the massacre at M2-XFE, costing $378,012 total.
Gosh darn it atrioc, please don't stop with these EVE videos. Eve was one of those games I love the idea of it, but not actually playing. The stories that come out of this game are priceless

There is a book I bought back in 2014 called empires of eve. Never played the game, but that book really hooked me on eves player/corp history

A follow-up to this would be amazing, the biggest war in history just ended and the whole world failed to destroy The Imperium, the amount of drama in it is about as good of a story as all the propaganda that came out of it (the song remixes, the shitposts on reddit, so on and so forth)

will just clarify the real world dollar associated with most EVE stories. There is an item in game that can be bought with IRL money called PLEX, that item can be sold as a commodity for in game currency (500 plex can buy 1 month subscription or just an inflation proof way to park your money). Because this item exists, it allows all in game currency to have an exchange rate. So when articles say "Man loses ship worth $10,000", that's disingenuous. The guy didn't fucking spend $10k on a ship, he's just rich in game and if converted translates to that much money IRL. Ain't no one out there making a paycheck playing eve, RMT is illegal and you get banned for it.
I've been playing Eve for almost 15 years and what I like best about being an EU player is that my English has improved and I can curse well in other languages. ;)

This was literally my first Atrioc video 10 days ago and since then I've become entrenched, learned about the Atrioc multiverse including who S3K was, watched almost every video as a TH-cam frog, downloaded Twitch literally only for Atrioc, subbed on TH-cam and Twitch, and never looked back.

wasn't "patriotism" the real baseline currency in most of these wars? I've made a point of NOT getting involved in that game because I know full well it would've eaten my life but from what little I've picked up about how it actually works it seems like generally speaking in a war between factions it's not so much the richest side that wins or the most tactically effective, unless there is a severe imbalance in those factors it usually ends up just being the side that logs in and participates the most.
basically there's enough slush mechanics going on that a player has to loose a LOT before they stop being reasonably effective at contributing to the war effort provided they keep trying.

eve online is too hardcore for most people but if you were willing to put in the time, you could create moments that you would still think about years later, not even like these massive wars, just a dude doing his own thing, spotting an opportunity and seizing it. you could even have good intentions but easy riches are presented and all you have to do is burn some people you don't really even know, it's the only game that taught me things about myself that i would have no other ways to learn.

Hello Atrioc, I dont know if you made a video about it already but you should take a look at the Korean pro Starcraft Broodwar scene illegal gambling scandal that ended in Kespa dying due to Blizzard forcing players to swtich to SC2 combined with the withdrawal of sponsors that didnt want to be involved in the mentioned scandal. This happened about 10 or 9 years ago?
Players ended up in jail, complete teams dissasebmled, whole careers and lifes ruined. Police, gamer detectives involved that had to observe the game and conclude players were losing in purpose. I am sure you know all about it. Pretty cool story.

@@a.9492 there is actually a free variant (with some limitations) and you can easily play for free the full versions and earn enough ingame for it.(or dont even earn it just sell the skill points gaining during the month and use them to play for free ) and its for mac as well now

Their advertising, for some reason, isn’t the greatest. This is singlehandedly the best space sim on the gaming market. Idk how so many people haven’t heard of it. And no, it’s not a spreadsheet sim. Stop letting people spread that lie especially when they don’t play the game. Only people who use spreads are people who do nothing in the game besides market trade or manufacture… on a LARGE scale. 98% of players don’t need spreadsheets.
