    The Ship of Theseus problem with the running fleet is an interesting one.
    Personally I don't mind one bit if parts get swapped out or new ones made, what's important to me is that there's AN example of a given tank still in running order rather than the entire tank being period. As I see it, all of these were new at one point and until they became 'historical' vehicles, nobody gave a thought to breaking parts with wear or changing them out for spares. Even if you make parts bespoke from scratch, if they're made to the original designs, and fitted to the vehicle correctly, they're correct.

      A friend works on HMS Belfast. When they get together with US people who work on their historic ships the great difference is that British ships have displays and replicas like the charts detailing the hunt for the Bismark. THE US ships only allow actual items from the ship. This could stem from the sheer volume of historical British artifacts compared to the US.

    • @rubenskiii
      @rubenskiii 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@chrisyoung5929 Doesn't the U.S. have a massive amount of historical ships, and the U.K very liitle (WW2 timeframe)?

    • @chrisyoung5929
      @chrisyoung5929 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@rubenskiii true, but you always have to consider the historical time scale the two countries are working with. Britain has Nelson's Victory, Henry's 8 Mary Rose. Viking ships and neolithic coracels. You can only keep so much from whenever. The US only really looks back a few hundred years. I have lived in a house older than the US. I think Europeans are a bit more laid-back about history. We often have some around the corner.

    Great preservation of historic afvs. How about starting a donation fund for poor families, especially the children. I know things are hard for the tank museum but times are harder for poor kids. Britain has suffered more than 100,000 deaths in the fight against covid. That's nearly half the deaths of UK citizens in WW2. Let's show the same community spirit now in these dark and challenging times. We must move forward, together.

    • @books742
      @books742 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Point of Fact: UK, deaths from Covid-19, at 100,000 are still below a quarter of total deaths of UK citizens in WW2, at around 454,000. You are being a bit wild and loose claiming 103,000 + (29 Jan 21) is nearly half of 454,000.
      Point of Fact: Raising money for 'poor kids' is not what The Tank Museum is there for. See, Tank Museum Limited at the UK Charity Commission website.
      There is of course nothing preventing you from donating your money to, or raising money for 'poor kids' or supporting and promoting one or more, of the many charities that are set up for that purpose.

      @@timkbirchico8542 Because the "word" citizen is so commonly used when more correctly the word "subject" should be used I went with the flow and used citizen when "subject" would have been more proper. In British law prior to 1 Jan 1949 almost everyone with a close association to the UK was a "subject". A "subject" being a person who is subjected to the rule and protection of the reigning monarch.
      So it would have been better if in my reply I had used "UK subjects." To be a 'legal' UK Citizen you have first have also to be a British Subject, so what point are you trying to make? c 460,000 'British dead' is the correct figure, irrespective of using the term "subject ","citizens" or both or anything else.
