The overall commentary about the industry with the cocky lyrics and the "we're gonna be who we are and be hot doing it" attitude really worked for us. We really think this song/MV is absolutely one of the best of the year and hopefully opens peoples eyes to how amazing Dreamcatcher is!!

Dreamcatcher comebacks since Scream have been heavy on the social commentary.
This album is called VillainS.
Throughout the MV we are seeing behind the scenes. Everything is on a set, being filmed, being edited. Fake. Handong and Yoohyeon stage a fight, that's being filmed, and as soon as it cuts Handong helps Yoohyeon up, no real conflict.
I don't think we're supposed to take much (especially the lyrics) at face value. I saw a comment on the MV that went into far better detail breaking down the meaning and how this is commenting on obsession with status and "chasing the crown".

So after watching OOTD for another 100 times I have another theory.
They're modern day Sirens, "Don't you want to feel it, come and ride" (Come to/with me)

then at the end the person joins them, the members are cold and appear unfeeling. The tempted is then apparently kille
They never fail to impress us
So, Shasha is the girl that works in the editing booth we see at the beginning of the video. She is the one who watches the Dreamchat site, and the one who chats with ymenehcra and the one whose helmet's POV we watch following the clues on her bike and discovering DC at the end and falls down after Jiu touches her. At the final scene her booth is empty and the site is baiting for the next...victim. BRILLIANT!!!

The crown is the villain. It takes over the victim like a psychic parasite, eventually they start obsessing about the crown and being "worthy" of it and they fight for it to the last man in their dreams before they move to the next victim

Dreamcatcher has now entered their Villian era and I'm here for it! This comeback is a perfect example why avoiding the teasers may leave you confused as hell😂 I always try and consider the fact they put so much work and thought into teasers and myco's to give us all a full experience, that I'm going to enjoy them as intended. OOTD is a totally different track vs. their previous songs but DC wants to try a new sound and concept. My fellow Somnia friend told me that this song is like a dig/middle finger to the "conventional" way of Kpop. I agree! Totally Dreamcatcher. 100% flexing to everyone that this is who they are.
You two should react to the whole album, especially the B-side songs. Rollercoaster ride. Recommended.

I don’t mean to be a hater, since I’m actually a fan and I enjoy the new album, but I don’t think this song is too much of a middle finger when they literally are beginning to sound like most other groups.

The b-sides are pretty disappointing shatter has a wierd chorus and we are young is just dull and too long. Rising almost saves it but that too has messy moments. The title track has a great chorus but also misses in places. Far too much English especially on the Ootd part and no more questions, I feel they should have sung that last part in Korean, It just sounds a bit off

I just love how fresh but also how 2006-ish this video tries to look like. The cinematography and VFX are top notch, but the graphic design and the looks brings a certain nostalgia. The caps and tops and matching clothes in the crown section reminded me of 4Minute's "Crazy", and specially with Siyeon's hair and shakes that looked so so so HyunA-y. I love to see I'm not the only one freaked out with how powerful this comeback is, and the theories about where do we go from here in storyline and lore terms are so so interesting.

At first glance you could think this is about them being happy with themselves, about confidence. I don't think that is it though. I have no idea if my theory is correct. The fact that the album is called VersuS VillainS makes me think it is not this simple. So I believe this song is meant as a criticism of narcissism, materialism and also (maybe) the fast fashion industry. "OOTD" stands for "Outfit of the Day" after all, clearly fast fashion.
The fact that fashion is moving ever faster is actually the most destructive industry to the planet apart from the fossil fuel industry. The Aral lake has all but disappeared because of the cotton industry for example. It would fit to the Villain image.
The main reason why I don't think it is about confidence or their own success is the line "Driving on the highway, drunken everyday, do you feel like a monster?" and the album title. That just doesn't fit.
It could also be a big and well-hidden F*U to the Kpop industry, like the Nightmare arc probably was. The narcissism and materialism is definitely criticized here, and Dreamcatcher have been criticized a lot themselves because of their rock/metal concept, while other groups have been celebrated for using a guitar riff once in a song.
The music is highly interesting as well. There still is rock there, but dialed back. The song structure is not what you'd expect at all, for me it is punk rock meets K-Pop. Not their usual spiel, but a very good progression. It takes a couple of listens to really enjoy it.

OOTD is such addicting I can't even. Love the switch from Bon Voyage (and the more I listen to OOTD the more I love how different it is!).
The girls look and sound amazing, and the EP is another perfect example of the group's versatility. Picking up my favourite song is so difficult!
As for the MV I'm DYING to figure out a lore: I think the "crown" is some kind of a virtual reality (as seen in the end when Ji U touches the visor and the wearer - probably ShaSha - falls on the ground). Ymenechra is trying to recruit people for their "cause" , but it's just a scene. You think you're so hip and fashion, but it's all fake, as we can see with all the editings while the video plays out, be it photoshop or the green screen. Even the short break after Handong and Yoohyeon had a fight might hint to the fact that it's all "staged".
This might also link to the interpretation that the MV is a middle finger to the "conventional ways" in K-Pop!
Call me crazy but the instrumentals of the song remind me of Rage Against the Machine a bit. The song at the end of the matrix. I also think that this is setting up their next trilogy in some way and that the flexing is almost a statement against flexing. Not sure exactly yet.
Yeah, the instrumentals feel a lot heavier than people are giving them credit for (I suppose because their voices are so pop-y), it feels much more nu-metal than just current kpop electronic.
I'm certain at this point that this is setting up the next plotline! 1. The pre-release horror ARG. 2. Dami's "Do you feel like a monster?" contrasts the rest of the song. 3. JiU's "I'm Venus, Nepthys..." yeah venus is oft referenced in claims to beauty, but Nepthys? She was associated apparently with mourning, death experience, but also healing and protection....strange reference for a "look im so expensive and pretty" song. 4. The camera holder / 1st person POV not just collapses at the end, but you can also see their trembling hand weakly reaching out to dc
I'm too new to K-pop to know in detail what is popular right now. But from what I've seen, I think this might be the perfect mix of their own style and popular taste that could make this comeback especially successful! And your reactions are so similar to mine, it makes your videos really fun to watch!
The Dami- Siyeon- SuA at the start is in fair. Dongie looked amazing and did Jiu. JiU saying the Goddess line was the only common sense thing to do. Dami’s rap slayed. The beat is killer. I disagree about the meaning. In an interview they said that his was the first part of a duology about temptations and how we handle them. I think that the “temptations” they are talking about are attention and popularity, especially within the kpop sphere, and doing anything in pursuit of them. Ymenehcra recently tweeted that “you are the crown” (talking about us). We, the audience, the kpop fans, are the “crown” that is coveted to the point of self destruction. The confidence and flexing shown is false, but the facade is dropped slightly when you look at Dami’s verse. She talks about being “drunken everyday” (many artists have has substance abuse issues), says that she is “looking for her life” (possibly not as sure of herself as she portrays in the rest of the song), and at the end questions everything, asking “do you feel like a monster?” The repeated “Shut up no more questions” sounds like they are trying to convince us of something untrue.
Edit: Another thing: throughout the MV we see them pulling back to the behind the scenes footage, showing us the construction of the false image.
