On the undercard of Tommy Morrison-George Foreman, a young Oscar De La Hoya would improve his record to 8-0 with this TKO stoppage over former featherweight world champion Troy Dorsey. De La Hoya would open a cut over Dorsey's right eye in the opening round, forcing a doctor stoppage before the start of the second round.

Dorsey just couldn’t hurt him. That cut saved him from a serious drubbing!

It's so funny to see how friendly, well-spoken and articulate Oscar is after fights talking about how he dismantled and destroyed fighters. "It was a left uppercut that really did the damage. It was a terrible cut. It was just an ugly cut." 🤣🤣

If Dorsey didn't get cut he would have made a fight out of it, probably would be stopped late but it would have been fun, you could already see the last part of that round he started to get busy. If you haven't seen Dorsey fight his style isn't power, it's volume, and he had an iron chin and inexhaustible tank. Watch his fight with Kevin Kelley, great stuff.

Agreed Dorsey was an incredible fighter both in Kickboxing and Boxing.

I concur. Not to mention, the longest De La Hoya had gone up to that point was an eight-rounder against Mike Grable, and both fighters were pretty tired at the end of it. Dorsey had a tendency to be very dangerous in the later rounds. In other words, the longer the fight went, the better a chance Dorsey had. I remember I paid to see this on Pay-Per-View at a sports bar in Columbia, Missouri. The main fight was the one between Tommy Morrison and George Foreman, but I went to see Dorsey give De La Hoya a beating. Dorsey, unfortunatley, was on a tremendous bad luck streak at that point in time, and this ended up being just one more part of it. On the plus side, I did get to see Zack "Attack" Padilla wrest the crown from Carlos Gonzalez.

Known Troy since he was 18 years old. If not for his propensity for cuts and lack of defensive movement his career would have been much different. If he had in punching power half of what he had in durability, will power and sheer toughness he would be in the HOF and a true ATG. Still the pressure he put on guys was enough only the better fighters could deal with it. Kevin Kelly referred to his match with Dorsey as "A Long Night In Hell" that says it all! He was even more dangerous and dominant as a Kickboxer and had crazy powerful kicks.

@@ckersh74 NOBODY ever stopped Dorsey except on cuts and despite his record he fought some of the best of his era! NOT Leija, NOT Pinangas, NOT Kelly, NOT Medina, Not Ruelas, Not Paez (Twice), Not De-La-Hoya and he was never even off his feet or had a standing 8-count. He took a knee against Leija but that was it. Lamotta is known for being unstoppable and Troy Dorsey is right there with him IMO.
