I think the one at the Adventure dome has survived this long because it lives indoors in a controlled environment. It also doesn't get as much use as a fair model would.

I remember seeing an inverter when I was much younger at Jackson, Ohio (this was around 2009), and I thought the ride looked awesome. It even got sold to my local county fair iirc, and I remember seeing the counterweight at the top of the arm thinking, “Why does it look like that now with the front facing gondola?” That conversion explanation makes things way clearer now. Awesome video!

I remember in the early 2000's Morey's Piers in WildWood NJ had the invertor ride right next to the great white roller coaster, and it used to use fog effects, I miss that ride, and Six Flags New England had a double invertor called the time warp, it was basically a chair with a harness that locked with a seat belt and dangled the rider's legs

Hi, I'm from South Africa and we had a travelling inverter as well. The footage u have is so extremely accurate to my experience, especially the first person perspective (how they saddled you up and the pressure plate after). Probably the uncomfortable feeling about it is how fast it goes up and down. It's an absolutely thrilling ride and probably my favourite

Got a chance to ride the one in Adventure-dome in Vegas. It was so-so to say the least but, as you stated, it's one of those rare ride you have to try out before it goes extinct..

I got a chance to ride the former double inverter 'Submission' at Alton Towers and actually enjoyed the ride experience. The hang time, while somewhat neutered by the restraint was still fantastic and I didn't find the ride too uncomfortable

My siblings and I went to the AdventureDome a lot when we were young. The Inverter is near the entrance and the ticket booth, so this was the first one we would always ride together. It wasn't my favorite, but it holds a special place in my heart because this was my (now deceased) stepbrother's favorite ride at the park. This was a great video, and I hope you get a chance to ride it someday.

I remember six flags added a bunch of these double inverters to there parks in the 1990s. Examples are
Time warp at six flags great adventure
    Time warp at geauga lake
Double trouble at six flags New England
Voodoo volcano at six flags New Orleans (single inverter)
    Catapult at six flags Mexico
And mindbender at frontier city (single inverter)
I kinda wish I would’ve road one of these even thought they look painful

I'm a Vegas local, and have ridden the Inverter at AdventureDome several times. It's fun for what it is, but yeah, it squeezes your legs pretty good. It's not necessarily painful, at least as long you sit up nice and straight and keep everything out of your front pockets, but it's always very distracting. Can't say I'd recomend going out of your way to come experience it.

Inverter at AdventureDome is probably the worst ride I have ever ridden. It's restraints make Skyrush's lap bars feel like Intamin T Bars.

There used to be one in Adventureland in Altoona, Iowa and me and my friend both got stuck on it. For me the secondary bar restraint never came up. So the operator had to jiggle it to get it to loosen, and my friend was unfortunately held upside down for several minutes when the ride lost power. It closed in 2016 and it was replaced by Phoenix their new spinning coaster.

I remember the Wade Show used to have what looked like a double inverter but they were covered by a rounded top that made them look like a version of the ride called the Loop-o-plane in Rollercoaster Tycoon. I wish I had taken the time to memorize the ride's name because searching up the ride by the name, Salt-n-Pepper Shaker, that my dad remembered calling them during his days with the Wade Show failed to yield any images of the towering flat ride that had two large capsule shaped ride vehicles that spun in opposite directions but always briefly aligned side by side while held upsidedown for a few seconds during the ride cycle. I may not know the name of ride model sadly but, I DO remember how it operated and more importantly, how it slung and rained loose change like weaponized metallic rain if someone boarded it with loose change in their pockets. 😅

They used to have this at the Evergreen State Fair and I think Puyallup Fair. I have seen the one in Adventuredome when I went to Vegas in 2021 and 2022. One thing to note is that the Adventuredome is in the Circus Circus casino, in case those who go have trouble finding it.

I'm a barrel-chested dude with neck injuries from a car wreck, and I rode the one at the Adventure Dome. It wasn't uncomfortable to me (and my chest and neck are sensitive to rough rides, which is why I avoid most -but not all- old school Arrow coasters).
It was cool-ish. Problem is is that the counter rotation, like you mentioned, dampens the forces and makes it a VERY tame ride. Visually, however, it looks intimidating when it'd actually be a good 1st upside down ride for kids getting used to it. This means the look of it scares away the audience who'd like it the most, and thrill seekers will be let down inevitably unless someone told them beforehand to keep their expectations in check.
It's a cool a idea, but was very much a one-and-done for me.
Also, on Rainbows and the like, I was intrigued that you didn't bring up Chance's version (called a Shooting Star or Falling Star or something like that), I rode one of Chance's back in the early 2000's at Mall of America, and man it was great. Very forceful, and I'm shocked Chance doesn't make them anymore since they have several rides that use similar (or possibly same) A-frame set ups...

It came to the Kentucky State Fair sometime in the early 2010's and I got to try it. Much of what you said was true, it's very visually interesting but the experience itself was kind of boring. Restraints felt more awkward, and the only discomfort came from how long you hung on the restraint when the operator held riders upside down. Kind of a minor letdown, but not offensive. It was alright! Great video!

I've ridden a travelling model owned by Reithoffer Shows (btw just checked their website before commenting, I see no mention of Inverter but I see them listing a Full Tilt so I think it's safe to assume this one I rode was converted) on two occasions at one carnival and one fair that they did in Maryland when I was younger, I wouldn't call the ride painful (although I was a younger teen at the time so take that with a grain of salt) but I remember the ride just being very boring, it felt like the forces just negated each other, you're flipping but honestly you're probably going to have a more forceful time just spinning a Zipper car waiting on a load cycle.
That said though as dull of a ride it is for how visually impressive it is, I'd still recommend getting on it just so you can ride an out of production ride before they all disappear, I'd also recommend trying to sit on one of the far end seats, you get more force than sitting in the middle and the view is much better since there is at least some minor placebo excitement in the experience of feeling like it's about to drive you into the ground

  • @OutdoorsWithShawn
    @OutdoorsWithShawn ปีที่แล้ว

I really enjoyed the motions of the ride. Especially in the front/back rows. But as many have said, the restraints were very uncomfortable.
There was one that used to come to a local carnival near me. Rode the one at SFNO many times. I want to say it was a double, but it's been almost 20yrs since I've rode it.

WOW 😳 You mean there is actually a flat ride I've been on that you haven't?? DAMN, I'm truly amazed at that fact. 😂
There was a Chance Inverter at the Puyallup Fair in Western WA And I actually wrote it on a couple of different visits. I liked it. 🤷🏻‍♂️ It was different and smooth. I already wasn't a small guy then (at about 200 lb) but I had no issues with the restraints at all whatsoever. I believe they did eventually convert it to a Rockstar ride, though.

I've been blessed enough to ride both models, Time Warp at Geauga Lake, and the single at the IX indoor Amusement park for years.
They run SLOOOOOOOOOW. That's most of the problem.
That and the ergonomics seem made for mannequins😢. Much of the discomfort I feel comes from the awkward bracing someone naturally does against the very unforgiving harnesses as well as thighs tensing into the T wings that crossed your legs when the bar clank stapled down.
As the ride rocked, these would audibly crank down tighter and tighter, and even after the ride, you'd be left sitting like that during the lengthy release process.
The operator had to walk up to the car where the controls were mounted from the booth, lower a running flap, slowly raise the bar, before the harnesses POPPED open from crush pressure.
One other note, and I've only seen this twice, these WERE able to run without the vehicle car rotation, which had a very different feel than rangers or skymasters due to the SLOOOOOOOOOW rotation

So I’d like to know where the info about losing power and being stranded is from? I worked at a theme park with a single are permanent Inverter and if we ever lost power the ride would rock back and forth until it stopped. It might not have parked correctly, but it would never get stuck where it was/upside down.
Edit: if we ever had any trouble, it was with the cylindrical locking systems for the T-Bar’s(that’s what Chance called these lap bars) and the bearings on the driveshafts.

I've been on a single armed Inverter (Bates Brothers had it) and a double inverter, the one at Geauga Lake. I got stuck upside down on the one at Geauga 🤣 the ride is the least thrilling thrill ride ever. You feel like you're flipping in slow motion and because of how tight the restraints are it dampens the forces you might otherwise feel

I've been on an Inverter or two ... I don't think anyone is missing much by not experiencing it. (The forces on the end seats were particularly odd.)

  • @johnphillips3475
    @johnphillips3475 ปีที่แล้ว

Aside from the discomfort, the big problem with the Inverter was the sheer repetitiveness of the ride. Because the flipping was rigidly tied to the motion of the main arm, each rider just repeated the same pattern over and over. As a result, the Inverter managed to be both massively uncomfortable AND incredibly boring. Add in the fact that anyone not sitting in an end row could hardly see , and you've got a real flop of a ride.
