  • Bead Head Pheasant Tail Nymph
    The Pheasant Tail nymph or PT nymph also called Sawyer’s Pheasant Tail is a popular all-purpose nymph that can imitate a wide variety of insects, mayflies, damselflies, and stoneflies depending on the color and the size of the hook. The fly can be tied with or without beads.
    The pheasant tail fibers come in natural and different dyed colors, brown, olive, red and black which can be used to imitate different insects. The wing case can be made from a wide variety of materials including different colored scud back, turkey quill, whole and stripped peacock herl and so on.
    Recipe
    Hook: Mustad R50AP size 14
    Bead: Small copper bead.
    Thread: Uni-Thread 17/0 trico.
    Abdomen.
    Tail and Body: 4 to 6 strands of pheasant tail fibers for each section.
    Rib: Fine copper wire.
    Thorax.
    Wing Case: 1/8-inch Brown Scud Back
    Dubbing: Natural Hare’s Ear Dubbing.
    Legs: A cut section of Brown Hen Neck Hackle.
    Ultra Fine Brown Dubbing to cover the thread wraps.
