Exactly, viewing biracials as black is destroying the black community. I don't know why black Americans do this. Gugu will never experience that same barriers that Lupita did. Lupita's role in 12 years would never have been given to a biracial person and vice versa with Gugu's role in Belle being given to a black person.
Chris Sparkz Of course I do, i'm not one of these black people who changes his views depending on the situation. If Barack was a real black person (with 2 black parents) he would not be the President. Being half white has benefited him and we all know this. The most successful hyped up black folk in the black community are biracial's, now most black people think they need to mix with other races in order to have successful "black" children... they intentionally do this but expect their kids to self identify as black, lol. Only we are this stupid. What I find funny is black women complaining about men preferring light skinned (biracial) women over them, which I can understand until they view these same women as black, and not biracial/mixed. They complain about their benefits from having white traits but still assume that they suffer similar experiences or insist that whites treat them the same way when they know they don't.
This Film looks absolutely stunning, gorgeous film making. Let's not forget that Gugu and Lupita are two completely totally different actresses who are both amazingly beautiful. I think it's quite unfair to compare them, like Gail had mentioned that Gugu is the next Lupita? How is that possible?! Lupita has strong Kenyan lineage with precise keen features of East African origin. Whereas Gugu was born and raised in England by a white British mother and black South African father, thus being that of mixed race descent. The only similar characteristic that they share is a British accent not their ethnic background. So for future reference I hope that Gail thoroughly researches the specificity of ethnic backgrounds and the differentiation of the actors, musicians, etc before she follows through with her interviews, because if she doesn't she will be displaying her lack of knowledge and ignorance and that just looks really really bad.
I also agree that comparing her to Lupita isn't right. That's just another form of racism - to just haphazardly lump everyone who is "coloured" together equally. Like you said, they are very different actresses with very different backgrounds and I don't understand why it's so difficult for "the public" to simply see them as talented individuals in their own right, without feeling the need to label and slot them into preconceived categorical boxes.
501archer The public are not claiming that Gugu is black, or that she should be compared to Lupita. Its the black female reporter that's doing this. Gugu's most successful roles such as Belle was specifically for a mixed actress and Lupitas role in 12 years could not have been given to a mixed female like Gugu.
Gugu is beautiful and with Sam Reid they are perfect, great casting choice, the funny part, Sam Reid took the part because his friend took another movie and suggested Sam,boy are we lucky because they had great chemistry.
Holy shitballs she's british? I just watched Black Mirror: San Junipero and she was incredible in it especially one scene in particular towards the end.
Kinda silly to compare a British actress to Kenyan/Mexican/American actress simply because they were in two movies dealing with race issues. Seriously, people?
If you are referring to Lupita as Mexican. No, she’s not. She was however born in Mexico because her African parents were visiting the country. Her mom was of course pregnant with her at that time. She just so happen to be born there. So that’s why her name is Lupita. After she was born, they went back to Africa. She is pure black. She’s a Mexican national just because of being born there. She has no Mexican blood in her. I agree that Gugu and her cannot be compared. Gayle should not have said that. Not all people of color are the same color and race. That was foolish of her to say that. Lupita is cute, but so many black girls not only in Africa, but in the U.S. that looks like her. Her look is typical, I see nothing unique about her look. Gugu is much prettier; they look nothing alike.
Hmmm... I think they are both great actresses and both should make more movies. Lupita is especially interesting since she's directed a very thought provoking documentary about albinism in Kenya.
Gugu is gorgeous and talented, no good reason why she isn't one of the biggest stars in hollywood right now. Hopefully A Wrinkle in Time will take her to the next level.
This is an very Awesome movie about Dido Elizabeth Belle Lindsay. Dido has a "Turban" on her head. I have seen pictures and movies about that time and some women wore them. They were like hats or caps. "ALERT" FYI -- The new movie that GuGu stated that she will be in, name has been changed to "BEYOND THE LIGHTS" it is NOT Blackbird--now,
Hum how many people do we know named GuGu? None. And this is because her name is actually Gugulethu And how many people do we know named Gugulethu one. And she is attractive! :-)
That's the type of lady make a guy wife her. I'm so serious You Tube World. If she's good at doing them type of movies she must be a good actress. Last but not least lookout for her latest movie beyond the lights she's looking to gorgeous in that role...
Hazel Vernon I'm not presuming anything, I have lived in England since the day I was born, I'm assuming you do not live here. She's using the term 'biracial' because like most British people we know how to adapt our vernacular or terminology so that it's easier for Americans to digest and understand! We know how easily other 'English' speaking countries get confused. Now, would you like to add anything further?
my gosh, she's gorgeous
Such a classy and eloquent girl! I really enjoyed her performance as Belle.
She is gorgeous! Absolutely stunning.
She's absolutely stunning......
Shes just too beautiful, those dimples, her full lips, her eyes she has it all seriously perfect symmetry to her face. I think I will draw her
Did you draw her?
@@Mixedgirl-pu6yh I did yes
Gugu Mbatha thank you for raising the South African flag high, i really admire your work.
She's amazing! And I just discovered that Gugu in Zulu means "our pride", fittingly.
@ Bill Vreemde you and i share the same sentiments. she has lived up to her, i'm humbled by her.
I admire Gugutheu Mbatha Raw
She doesn't even know where South Africa is located
@@thulasmash2195 Yes she does- she's even visited!
kind of racist to compare lupita to gugu lol you don't say jennifer lawrence is the next angelina jolie...they're both completely different actresses

Do you feel the same about Barack Obama?
Chris Sparkz

Black americans weren't the ones who came up with the "one drop rule"
Phillip Ofori - Amoyaw Completely agree. It kind of pissed me off, too. We Americans must label EVERYTHING!
I fell in love with Gugu when I first saw the movie, “Belle”. She is stunning!
Check out Gugu Raw and her new film " Beyond the lights" it's a very great movie tell a friend it's a gem of a movie.
She is an amazing actress. I've followed her career for quite sometime. She's great!

Whatever they are both black women and in this country there is only ever one at a time
I agree with everything apart from they 'share a British accent', Lupita does not have a British/English accent.
I also agree that comparing her to Lupita isn't right. That's just another form of racism - to just haphazardly lump everyone who is "coloured" together equally. Adam, she doesn't even have to research because she has eyes. You just need to look at them to know that they're different races.

So she's never heard of "Queen?" Mkay now, Ms. Gayle.
Guguletho is a name of a place in Capetown - South Africa
She reminds me of Kerri Washington
She is an exceptional actress.
Reporters always blame others for what they think. Comparing is pointless
Gugu is gorgeous and talented, no good reason why she isn't one of the biggest stars in hollywood right now. Hopefully A Wrinkle in Time will take her to the next level.
She is beautiful and intelligent

Am I the only one who thinks that she looks a lot like angelina jolie?
Yes.
Yes a little, blended with a tiny bit of Vanessa Williams minus her blue eyes.
YES.
I enjoyed her movie, she was excellent. Does anyone know how come she took both of her parents last names?
Thank you.
she interviewed her in the movie
She looks like the actress in Game of Thrones who plays the dragon queen lady's servant. Is it the same person?
No. The Game if Thrones Actress is named Nathalie Emmanuel, she is also English.

Shes mixed and biracial.....Same meaning for her.
.:J.M.Concept:. In the UK we don't use the term biracial, we say mixed race.
***** I never knew that. But both words have a similar meaning.
***** you mean that's the word you use. Why do you presume to speak for her?
