  • We are here to present an educational video regarding the Hair Transplant Procedure: Eugenix Approach for Before & After Effects of Medication, Dr. Arika Bansal.
There may be some individuals who believe that the results we showcase at Eugenix are solely a result of medication, rather than the procedure itself. However, we strongly recommend the use of medication on a regular basis. This is not only to preserve existing hair, but also to reduce the need for repetitive hair transplants. This recommendation is especially relevant for younger patients, as it can slow down the progression of baldness.
In this video, we will be presenting two cases to illustrate how we evaluate a patient's baldness at Eugenix. Our evaluation and measures may differ from other doctors and clinics performing similar procedures.
In the first patient's case, the individual had baldness in the mid-scalp and crown areas but had good density in the front and hairline. As a result, we chose not to implant grafts in those areas. Instead, we focused on achieving an optimum density in the bald areas, which are the mid-scalp and crown, to ensure good coverage.
When performing the implantation, our doctors at Eugenix keep one key principle in mind: not to use an excessive number of grafts to achieve very high density. This is because when a patient is ready to take medication, they can better retain their existing hair. Our goal is to achieve optimum density with the minimum number of grafts.
In the second case, the patient had previously undergone a procedure with unsatisfactory results and had not used medication. We performed surgery in the hairline zone, as this patient had sparse hairs in that area, and these were transplanted hairs unlikely to improve with medication. Additionally, we transplanted the crown area, as there were lots of existing hairs in the mid-scalp. After the procedure, the patient had dense hairs in the front and crown areas, while the mid-scalp remained empty. We took this calculated risk because some individuals respond well to finasteride. However, in this case, the hair did not improve with medication, making it a safe and wise decision to proceed with the transplant in that area.
In other case, if we had conducted a straightforward transplant, we would not have been able to cover the crown area. This approach would have exhausted the patient's overall donor hair capacity. A prudent doctor will always advise patients to be conservative, initially attempting medication in areas where there are existing hairs and a high likelihood of improvement, such as the mid-scalp and crown. If these hairs do not respond to finasteride, then a transplant in that area becomes a viable and sensible option. We have maintained transparency with our patients about these considerations, which is why our graft estimation may be lower compared to other clinics with similar grades of baldness.
