Bantama, Ahinsan & Adum | Okuruwere & Banwomaso | Asantehene Osei Tutu I

In this video, we tell a short Akan history of Asantehene Osei Tutu I, Bantama, Ahinsan, and Adum of Kumasi. We also explained the popular mantra or appellation of Asantehene; Okrore, Krare, and Banwoma (Dried and Cured animal Skins). Bonwoma generally refers to all types of animal skins that have been carefully dried and cured and are placed on the floor as a carpet for ceremonial chairs and stools to be placed on. The skins are made from two types of animals, the lion and the elephant. For the Gold Stool, the hwɛdɔmtea chair is placed on an elephant ear while the Asantehene’s stools and chairs are usually placed on lion skins. The Sikadwa, Hwedɔm, Asipim, and Akronkromfi chairs are not to be placed directly on the floor because of their sacred nature and for that matter have to be placed on these skins.
