    She had a heck of a service record. Have to admire their willingness to keep fighting no matter how battle damaged their ship had become. There is very little published about the service histories of Russian ships as compared to the numerous publications here in the west. Nice to see some history coming out. Hope to see some RN ships soon =^^=

    I love learning about the Russian navy, it gets so little spotlight and credit compared to the other navies.
    Respect for a ship that did its job of protecting Leningrad from the Germans.

      Zack Tyler Its not my problem that you guys are the onlyones refusing to use the metric system wich is used by us, litterally the rest of the world.
      1 kilometer = 1000 meter, 1 meter = 100 centimeter, 1 centimeter is 10 millimeter,... Can you do the same just as easily for converting a foot into inches or yards? Nope.

    Bit of an inaccuracy there ''the ship was fighting in world war 2 from day 1'' and stipulating she was defending ports against German air raids. Didn't Russia fight with Germany during the outbreak of world war 2 until Germany made the mistake of attacking Russia?

    • @marty2129
      @marty2129 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, for the Soviet Union (and it seems that for today's Russian Federation, too), their version of WW2 (the Great Patriotic War) started in 1941, with the period from 1939 to 1941 (the Molotov-Ribbentropp pact, the anexation of baltic states and eastern half of Poland and the Winter War never happened or should be forgotten as "insignificant" in their version of events...
      So, yeah, the line should have been "the ship was fighting since the day one of Operation Barbarossa/the german attack on Soviet Union".
      (and before anyone starts that "others have their inacurate versions of history, too"... yep, they have, but that is besides the point here)

      +SPARTAN Ravindra-919 Lightly armored for a BB. I've heard these described as battle cruisers (the armor tends to support this view) and the following class (BORODINO) being the true dreadnought class warships. The triple-gun turret design can be traced to the DANTE of the Italian navy. The Austrians also used a triple-gun turret. Depending upon the model that WoW would model, they would be an interesting addition. I can see them functioning very well with other warships of their vintage/period and not having to fight off swarms of futuristic torpedo bombers.

      +DtWolfwood Nikolay was a similar design to Petropavlovsk. 3 dreadnoughts of similar design have been built for the Black Sea Fleet, was supposed to be a 4th one, to complete the division. It was to have better armor and secondary artillery but overall similar to Baltic dreadnoughts. Started construction in 1916, it was never completed and later scrapped by the Soviets.

    While I enjoy the series, a greater variety of nations would be enjoyed. If my memory serves me correctly, there have only been Russian/USSR ships so far. Certainly there are other navies that fielded interesting ships.

    • @zam023
      @zam023 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Zachary Clark For other nations they have the Naval Legends series. This 1:42 Scale series is more about the ships that can be found in the Central Naval Musem at St.Petersburg.

    • @SprayandPrayman22
      @SprayandPrayman22 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +zam023 That makes sense. But it would still be great and interesting if they found ways to include other nations from time to time, since they seem to be focusing on this series now rather than Naval Legends.

    • @zam023
      @zam023 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Zachary Clark Thats true. They could try to do content from other naval museums that have 1:42 scale models.
      Btw, isn't that museum just amazing. All that huge models. I want to visit it one day.

    • @SprayandPrayman22
      @SprayandPrayman22 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +zam023 Certainly interesting. What interests me the most are the stories. Those are our history. Not just the Russian peoples' history, but ours as a collective whole. It shaped Russia, which in turn shaped the world. Every event, no matter how small, no matter how large, shaped us, our history, and brought us to this point in time and space, for better or worse. That's why the stories interest me so much more.

    • @zam023
      @zam023 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Zachary Clark Interesting that you said that. Last night I watched a documentary on Pearl Habour on the History channel. They said something along the lines that you did just now, about how events around the world shaped the world, even when it happens half way across the globe.
      They pointed out how if Japan didn't attack Pearl Harbour when they did, Britain would have fallen to the Nazi sooner or later because America wouldn't have entered the war.

      +TROLL FISCH NETWORKS (TH) why did they say that Russia scared off British destroyers off somewhere?

    • @marty2129
      @marty2129 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, this will be a very simplified version of events:
      From the start of WW1 up until November of 1917, Russian Empire were part of the so called Entente Powers, and thus allied with British and French (and when the USA joined, with America as well), then the Germans helped to get Lenin from Switzerland to Russia. Lenin and Bolsheviks (the Red Russians, Red Army, or the Reds for short) started their coup/revolution (and Russian Civil War with it), executed the tsar and his family (although those were basically dethroned a few months earlier during a different coup/revolution), and signed a ceasefire with Germany and Austria-Hungary, thus shutting the eastern front of WW1. But even then the German Empire wasn't able to win, and when WW1 ended, the victorious powers chose to deal with the Reds (for various reasons, the addictivity and toxicity of Reds' ideology one of those reasons, and the fact that Lenin wanted to eventually spread his version of communism to the whole world by any means necessary didn't help the Reds' international popularity either). Thus Britain backed the so called White Russians (the Whites, remnants of the old Russian government loyalists and/or tsarists) in the Russian Civil War. That's how british warships got into conflict with the Russians. Also, during this time, a few new countries broke from the collapsing Russian Empire.
      And to continue the history lesson:
      After the Civil War ended in 1921 with the Reds victorious, Russia, now renamed to the Union of Soviet's Socialist Republic (or to the Soviet Union for short) was in isolation imposed by most of the international community (with some soviet-backed coups, communist uprisings and from-moscow-directed communist parties spreading through Europe), but it found an unlikely partner. Germany, now a republic (the Weimar Republic or the German Republic) instead of an empire, wasn't overly happy with the Treaty of Versailles and all restrictions that came with it, and so made (at that time) a secret deal with Soviets to overcome those restrictions (among other things, that's why some pre-1933 restricted german weapons were tested in the USSR... tanks, mostly), giving Germany the know-how and ability to design and to a degree produce restricted stuff while the Soviet Union was able to get a very close look at everything tested. Meanwhile, Lenin died, replaced by others, although the real power after Lenin's death was held by Stalin.
      Later, in the late 1920's the isolation softened a bit and other countries started dealing with the USSR. Then the economic crisis and the Great Depression of 1929 hit, and in 1933 in Germany, Hiler got to power. AFAIK that changed the cooperation between USSR and Germany (as Hitler was no fan of Stalin), although not entirely (and interestingly enough, some of the infamous aspects of the new German Reich were inspired if not outright copied from Soviet ones). Nonetheless, in 1939, just before the outbreak of WW2, Hitler and Stalin seemed to agree upon a vision of an european future, divided between the Reich and the Soviet Union, and thus the pact Molotov-Ribbentrop was born, with it's secret ammendments bringing this vision to reality, although both parties most likely viewed this as a temporary solution and would quite possibly attempt to betray each other after a few years. Which they did, in the end, as in summer 1941, Germany invaded the Sovier Union (though one might argue that the invasion might have been somewhat forced and premature, as soviet behaviour during 1939-1941 is a bit unclear, and some of their actions might hint at a possibility of a soviet invasion forces being gathered).
      And thus Soviet Union allied itself with Britain and later, after Pearl Harbor, with Americans, too. An uneasy alliance that lasted for four years.
