"Make Me Smile" is actually the first movement of a seven-movement suite titled "Ballet For A Girl In Buchannon" on Chicago's eponymous second album. It was written by trombone player James Pankow for a West Virginia girl he was dating. The suite consists of four vocal tracks and three instrumental tracks.
Make Me Smile - lead vocals by Terry Kath
So Much To Give, So Much To Say - lead vocals by Robert Lamm
    Anxiety's Moment - instrumental
    West Virginia Fantasies - instrumental
Colour My World - lead vocals by Terry Kath
    To Be Free - instrumental
Now More Than Ever - lead vocals by Terry Kath
What you reacted to was the single released by their record company at the time, Columbia Records. They took "Now More Than Ever" which is a reprise of the opening track "Make Me Smile" and blended them together into one single. It would be well worth your while to listen to the entire suite, which runs over 12 minutes, to experience the wide range of their talents. Drummer Danny Seraphine is on FIRE in the instrumental "To Be Free".

chicago is top tier A+ band, always enjoy hearing them (esp their early stuff like this one). Thx for your RX. You should be either a radio or sports commentator -- you've got the "it factor" on video/voice/personality on camera. Haha. Nice work.

Great band from the 70's-80's. They were a rock & roll band with horns & blended elements of classical music, jazz, R&B, & pop music. They had a lot of great songs such as "25 or 6 to 4", "Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is?", "Beginnings", "Questions 67 & 68", "Where Do We Go From Here?", "Free", "Lowdown", "Saturday In The Park", "Make Me Smile", "Colour My World", "Hard To Say I'm Sorry", "You're The Inspiration", "Will You Still Love Me?", "Look Away", "Feelin' Stronger Every Day", "If You Leave Me Now", "Old Days" etc.

Hey Stan, Chicago, Earth Wind & Fire, the Ohio Players, Kool & The Gang, Blood Sweat & Tears, The Brecker Brothers, Brass Construction, all have amazing Horn Sections and I am a huge fan of all of these bands...However, with absolutely no disrespect to any of these bands, if you like horns and horn sections, you need to react to the band "Tower of Power" who just might have the greatest & tightest horn section in the business!!! Go ahead & check them out, don't just take my word for it, I'm sure you'll get other people making similar comments too!!!

I love Chicago, through all the changes. This is great. When I saw the title. Make Me Smile, it reminded ne of the band Cockney Rebel and "Come Up And See Me (Make Me Smile). I hope you will react to that song soon Stan.

Hey Stan, I'm not sure if you know this but Chicago started out as Chicago Transit Authority. Then they had to change their name after being sued by the real CTA. That being said you might want to listen to their first song on their album called CTA. That song is called "Introduction". In the song they solo all the instruments and show all there genres. It's quite a listen. Just saying.

Another horn-centric band to check out is Tower of Power, "What is Hip" is a good one.

I might be one of the greatest Chicago fans ever. Been to lots of their concerts, have all their albums. But I've fallen in love with a new version of them. From Russia, no less!! I've seen these guys in concert several times and they just keep getting better and better. Close my eyes and I'm reliving my youth! th-cam.com/video/tJzlHBN3BT4/w-d-xo.html
