    Breaking news: Disney to crack down on urban explorers because of liability concerns after one was viciously attacked by a butterfly while exploring an abandoned park. Video within warning gore.

    I was at Disney this last summer in 2017 and actually was staying in Fort Wilderness. I was a that exact area looking through the fence in the exact same place you were at. I don't know what is up with the one lady stopping you guys. I actually asked several Fort Wilderness employees about river country, and one of them took me to the fence and told me all about it. He was shocked at how much I knew about the park, so I told him that I learned from a guy on youtube (you) lol. I'm low key hoping I didn't rat you out on accident lmao

      @brittneywall3778 7 ปีที่แล้ว +42

      Yeah I was in the same area with the fence too when I was younger. I think it was about 2012, and me and my family noticed it, and wanted to know why it was all blocked off. Since I was still light enough, my brother (who is super tall) managed to lift me onto his shoulders so I could see what was on the other side. Coincidentally, the spot that I looked over the fence at just so happened to be the spot where there was the big pool and had a rocky sort of cliff thing hanging over it where it seemed that 2 water slides would end (just look river country water slides and you'll see). It was actually really cool 😂😂

      Brittney Wall I broke in river country last night around 3AM. If you go to the end lot, and go behind a little shed. There is an opening in the fence, and climbed a lot of rocks to get to the top. But it was awesome!!

      @Eldomibori 6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Chloë Urbanowski Nope! But I should’ve recorded it all. Me and my friend were just watching these videos, and we were like bro we should do it. So we went and went to the back lot and went in the opening behind the shed. Climbed up over the rocks to the top, and it was amazing. And the slides are just a filthy mess. I couldn’t even imagine falling in that water, I would literally die. But yeah, I’m surprised we didn’t get caught as loud as we were. It was an awesome experience.

    The entrance area to River Country is still used. The pavilion is still used for Mickey's Backyard Barbecue and the area around it is used for people waiting to get in. That's why its still manicured nicely right up to the fence.

    • @CityBeautiful
      @CityBeautiful 7 ปีที่แล้ว +41

      Also -- did you guys check out the bathrooms right there? They clearly were designed for a water park, even though now they just serve as the restrooms for the barbecue.

    • @CityBeautiful
      @CityBeautiful 7 ปีที่แล้ว +21

      The main entrance is not sealed off to guests. In the video they went right through where the main entrance was. The area sealed off does not include that little ticket booth thing that was the main entrance.

    Jake, I was a lifeguard at River Country from 5/85 until 4/86. The best year of my working for the Mouse was spent at RC. The shift was 3) 1/2 hr. rotations, then we’d take a 1/2 hr. break because of the intense heat. I loved the laidback atmosphere, but working around the Main Pool was a real challenge because of the volume of people, especially the amount of kids, and the slide drops could disorient you once you dropped in, because you could easily forget to swim away before the next guest would drop in right behind you, and sometimes right on top of you...so many near-misses. I personally was forced to make a few minor “rescues...” Then there was the River Rapids tube ride. The guard-post positions there were the best of the park rotations because you were mostly in the shade the entire time, and there was virtually no reason to have emergency alerts there, or “whistles” as we used to call them. The rotations on the Big Slides were always nerve-wracking, especially at the bottom of the slide rotation. Rescues of weak swimmers (a lot of whistles) every day, and on average, and at least 1 paramedic call a month...
    One great thing about the job was on your 1/2 break at the end of your 3 stand rotation, you could do anything you wanted. I would walk the beach, oftentimes I’d talk to cute girls, or sometimes I’d go diving for loose change or even floating, wadded-up dollar bills at the bottom of the pool or the drop point of the slides or tube ride. I walked out of there with $20-30 in quarters on a good day. But there were also some weird days working there...I remember one day not being able to open the park at our scheduled 9am opening time because of a 10 foot alligator found at the bottom of the Ol’ Swimmin’ Hole...it apparently jumped over the net barrier used to separate Bay Lake from our carved out lake area...but the wildlife trappers got it out before the guests ever knew what was going on..strange days, indeed!
    Overall, it was the best year of my short Disney career. I ended up transferring to the Fort Wilderness Campground front desk and worked there another 2 years before leaving Disney to accept a job with a major Airline. Having Disney guest service experience on my resume certainly helped me get the job, where I’ve been working at MCO ever since. Thanks, River Country...a fantastic job from a great period in my life a long time ago. I really hope they’ll someday utilize that beautiful corner of prime real estate to it’s maximin potential...it’d be a shame not to!

      I was once heartily told off for photographing a sign I thought was funny in a backstage area (I was part of a wedding party, and we were being taken through some kind of ninja back passage to I Can't Believe It's Not Château Frontenac in the Canada part of World Showcase). The person who was guiding us through the area was most put out with me. "Sir! You need to delete that photo _right now!_ If you do anything like that again you will have to leave the park!" The sign didn't even have anything on it that could identify the picture as having come from Disney World. It just said CAUTION: HOSE CREWS IN ACTION, and seriously, how could you NOT take a photo of a sign that says that?

  • @LikaLaruku
    @LikaLaruku 7 ปีที่แล้ว +44

    Unless I'm mistaken, you're not trespassing unless you hop over or dig under that fence & make physical contact with the land. If they disagree, then they should put a no trespassing sign a few feet in front of the fence. For example, it's trespassing if you walk across someone's yard, but not trespassing if you stand on the sidewalk & point a camera at their open window (that's invasion of privacy).

  • @heidischultz6219

    To those arguing on behalf of the woman, yes, she was unprofessional. The correct way would have addressed them as such: "Excuse me sirs, are you lost? I apologize, however video recording is restricted in this area. If you wish to record, you will need to speak to our guest services. However, we really would like for you to enjoy your stay at Disney. May I give you a credit toward dining or a complimentary Fast Pass?" No, she needs to be reprimanded. If she is a manager, she needs demoted. She was dressed sloppy, her behaviour was aggressive and decidedly anti-guest orientated, not to mention she left two guests unattended while she walked away to "get security." If I was her supervisor, this would be an immediate write up, at the very least. I am sorry you encountered this experience. She should be reported. If she cannot handle being polite to guests while doing her job, they can most happily find another who can.

    I think the power, abusing Nobody was a nasty piece of work and Disney should be ashamed to have such rude and unfriendly cast member speak to one of their Guests in such a manner. You did not Trespass and there was no signs saying "No photography" and/or "No peeking through the Fence". You should definitely put in a formal complaint about her.

      Well, humans are kind of curious... so if you put a fence with holes/gaps in them in front of an area most people will take a peek.If they don't want people to look trough the holes/gaps they should put barbwire in front of them. It would be totally different story if they climbed on the fence to peek over them.

    If someone hasn’t already commented about it. That lady was a manager. They are the only ones that dress in normal clothes. Coordinators and Cast Members dress in themed clothing because they’re seen more often.
    And yes, managers are downright difficult to deal with because they act like they know everything but yet they know almost nothing at all about regular operations and their own Cast Members. Always challenge them if you can and show them your footage of no wrongdoing. They will almost always err on the side of the guest. This is coming from a former cast member who has constantly seen this type of behavior. Obviously, it hasn’t changed much.

He started working at Fort Wilderness right after River Country closed and had a lot of tales to tell! He did confirm to me that the pool was filled due to mosquitos- it was done after tons of cast members, including himself, bombarded management with complaints.

    They could easily add some of the green screening between the gaps of they were so bothered about people looking through a fence, she clearly also isn't aware of Google maps where I can see right behind that fence. No where does it say "strictly no photography" it says no trespassing which you weren't doing as you were on the right side of the fence. I would have asked for her name and reported her as you are not doing anything wrong. She was on a power trip and was rude and threatening.
    You were far more polite than I would have been. Not only handsome but polite too 😉

    I love all the information you always have in your awesome videos. It’s too bad a crabby person works in the happiest place on earth. You clearly didn’t trespass. And if no recording was allowed there should be signs that say so. I mean seriously we live in a world where social media is huge and who doesn’t walk around with a device that can record. Can’t wait for next video!!! Have a nice weekend.

    Just an Fyi....you are and were under no obligation to show that manager your identification. Nor, can she detain you. She is not law enforcement and has zero authority. Your filming thru a hole in the fence is completely legal since you didn't cross the barrier and stayed in a public area. In other words, your eyes and what you can see cannot be trespassed. You were quite gracious to act the way you did. While I would also have been polite I would absolutely refused her request and taken her name. I'm not trying to be overly dramatic but her actions could be considered an attempt to violate your civil rights. Security could also not ask for your id or detain you absent of a crime. Again, being polite is the best way to go....but it infuriates me that a civilian manager would attempt to be so ridiculous when she has zero right to do so. That being said, Disney is a private company so they can ask you to leave the area as it is their property. All in all you did a great job but that manager was clearly overstepping her authority.

    I think the woman who stopped you was on a power trip. You're not "trespassing" if you don't go beyond the no trespassing sign, which you didn't. There was no sign indicating that photography wasn't allowed. My guess is that she overstepped her authority and the reason security never came is she probably called them and was informed you hadn't done anything wrong. Rather than admit that and apologize to you (which is what she should have done), she saved face by "letting you go this time". I'm always amazed how someone like that gets through Disney's screening process. Great video by the way!

  • @Spatiumdei

    I don't know if anyone has commented yet but those old poles and 'x' shaped beams used to be low decorative fencing around the park to add to the "southern water hole" vibe and to keep guests out of the landscaping from what I can remember, I was seven when it closed after all. Seeing the park in such disrepair is so depressing, it was my favorite as a kid!
    That cast member was insanely rude btw she had no right to ask for identification.

    Love your videos! Don't take that manager too seriously, some of them just like to go on power trips. She had no actual right to trespass you since you didn't cram your arm behind the fence or anything, so she was just trying to scare you. My money is on that she never even called security.

  • @Foxontherun2

    she can only ASK for your ID , you don't have to give it to her. she's not a cop , even if she was actual security you don't have to show your ID. Only a cop can require you to show ID provided you break a law. Breaking a "rule" at a park doesn't count as breaking the law either so I would have just left and said "bye Felicia"
    Don't get intimidated into giving up rights like your ID. Her "let me see some ID" was just an intimidation tactic. Nothing more. "Security theatre" as some call it.

  • @MrFalliorsLife
    @MrFalliorsLife 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Okay, yeah, I'm a bit confused with the manager thing. It doesn't say no filming, it says no trespassing. Trespassing only occurs when you go PAST the sign. You are allowed to film all you want as long as you are still standing in a publically allowed area, which you were. So idk what she was talking about, because you were still standing in a public area, you were just filming towards the trespassing spot without actually trespassing, you did nothing wrong and if she ever took it past that encounter she would have been told that by someone above her.

    • @ttarider
      @ttarider 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      gbrading actually, on disney property they restrict filming behind construction barriers , walls, and backstage areas. Just because they found a hole to stick a camera I , doesn't mean it's ok. Disney is private property, so they can enforce whatever rules on they see fit. This is not a public place, if they say no photos, that's the way it is. They are within their rights to confiscate your camera to ensure the photos are deleted. Not sure why it's so difficult to understand for some people. Too many 'What about my rights!" Whiners. You are on private property.

    Very impressive. I don’t think you did anything wrong and they should have clarified the “no recording/photography beyond this point” on the “No Trespassing” sign. Some ideas that they should do:
    - Turn it into a public picnic area so people can take a break from the parks without having to go back to their hotels.
    - Build a Princess and the Frog-themed, reservation only restaurant. (Unlikely, I know, but the swampy area fits well and this would lessen foot traffic in the park.)

    When I was growing up, I lived in a neighborhood that's actually across the street from the back wall of Universal. We could go out in our front yard and see the Disney fireworks over the trees. It was really nice to do sometimes because you were far enough away (like 25 minutes) that you didn't have to worry about the sound but you could see them so clear. What wasn't nice was Universal's Halloween thing because all the screams and stuff would randomly carry across the street and there were literally, only two streets and the houses across the street between them and us.
