Am I the only one who wonders if perhaps in the unceasing quest for speed above all, designers and all involved have not sacrificed a certain key ingredient....? That of actual "seaworthiness"...??
Seaworthiness has never been a priority for AC boats. NZ mast snap, Aussies losing the whole boat, among too many others to name. If you build a part 1mm thicker than it needs to be, you've added extra weight
@@michaelbaughman8524 very true. I think part of the issue is that the forces are getting magnified. Apparent wind speed is up because the boats are so fast. This crash saw the hill far higher out of the water than anything falling off a big swell. Nevertheless, the boat broke in this crash, indicating that it either wasn't built to withstand the anticipated forces against it, or the forces exceeded expectations. I suspect the latter.
How could TNZ pitch poling in Bermuda vrs GB not rate higher than USA. Well I guess you have to give them a win in something. It’s been a while. ps I can only say this after NZ’s great showing in SailGP. Finally. Go Kiwis
@@FastForwardSailing oops, my mistake. Gave me an opportunity to look at the first video. Don’t know how I missed it. Been subscribed since your excellent work on AC36. Still trying to get over the treacherous decision to defend it overseas.
So the America's Cup is all about spectacular high speed crashes now. I preferred when it was about sailing. Flying is great for spills and thrills but let's be honest, these "boats" are not seaworthy.
@@michaelbaughman8524 weird non-related comment. If you ACTUALLY watched the cup you wouldn't be saying this nonsense. So you didn't watch the cup clearly and thus your opinion is absolutely worthless.
I've been a fan since I watched Dennis Conner lose the Cup in '83 to the Aussies. Yeah, they still sail, but since '92 it's been less about the sailors and more about the boats.
Do they have airbags for all the crew yet ?

@@MicrophoneAssassin13 On the other hand I never saw a 12-meter stick her nose in a sea and pitch-pole.

Just say you didn't watch the most recent cup and be done with it.
Plenty of sailing happened.
@@TheUltimateWriterNZ Hey, you can stage a race with Indy cars and call it the Kentucky Derby. Doesn't make it a horse race.
