    As a mostly home mechanic I with I'd stuck with rim brakes on my new road bike after watching that. I'm getting a replacement (shorter) stem in the New Year (Orbea custom order shipped wrong) and it's going to have to be booked in with the LBS as all the hydraulic hoses are going to need trimming due to through-the-headset internal routing. What a faff!

    • @galenkehler
      @galenkehler ปีที่แล้ว +1

      2 things:
      If its a custom order mistake you wouldn't be doing the work yourself anyway.
      If it was mechanical you'd be re-doing the cables every few months due to the tight bends of the internal routing, which is much more work than the set-and-forget nature of hydraulic hosing.

    • @Bonky-wonky

      How about sticking with a frame that doesn’t have headset cable routing?

      I do more maintenance on my rim brakes than on my disc. That is to say, since my first disc brake frame purchase 3 years ago, I have done exactly zero minutes of maintenance. And that bike gets ridden by far the most. Once they're installed, hydraulic disc is really something you almost never need to think about, in my experience.

    I learned about the lockring thing the hard way. Was forced to buy a new set of rotors just to get the right kind of lockring. What adds to the frustration is that the compatibility is affected by the combination of hubs and axle caps. It was such an unnecessary expense. Argh.

    3:49 For Formula brakes Like Cura and Cura 4, I recommend a drop of Loctite 243 on the threads, I lost a pin on the rear brake even with the clip, but the design of Cura 4 caliper hinders the pads from falling down, but if I flipped the bike over they might have fallen out. so I had to install a Shimano pin the kind you bend with pliers to keep it secure.
    but I put Loctite 243 on the front.
    I see some use thin tape around the pin to prevent pads from ratteling.

    I just upgraded the MT-200 on my new Trek Roscoe 7 to a set of Magura MT Trail sport. However after a lot of research I decided to keep the original rotors as well as the original Shimano adapters - mostly as a cost saving measure. Gotta say, though, so far it's perfectly fine despite the thinner rotors. No rubbing and a very nice lever pull as well as good stopping power - I might even stick to Shimano rotors, tbh. I completely agree to with the bolt situation, though. After seeing some frightening images on Facebook of broken screwheads I always just put a smidge of grease on those.

    Uncommon one, but seen it, a kid had a front brake with constant brake rub, the cause was incorrectly assembled hub, so the whole wheel was off centre, so hub was off centre so was the rotor. I looked at it, but I could not get that to work, there was no more room to adjust the caliper, so not even as a temporary fix. buy atleast the kid got some free advice from me. 😁
    I don't know if it was done in the factory or previous owner or him or the shop. It was a cup and cone hub. But there can be various amount of spacers anf nut sizes so all has to be on the correct side, or wheel will be off-centre so always a good idea to take pictures and lay the parts in order and on each side.
