    Four unique stage demeanors.
    Roger, serious.
    Pete, pissed off.
    John, bored.
    Keith, just happy to be Keith!

      and all four play like they are doing solos, simultaneously, throughout the entire performance. How they pull it off is one of the great rock n' roll mysteries.

      Moon ie was an orchestra all by himself! He played lead! Townshend was forced to keep the beat.
      Have you heard The Real Me? The singular best bass solo in existence! And he stated he had no idea how he even played the tone and harmonics that you can hear, but mostly just perceive on a higher order.

    Is stunning to watch Keith playing alive. I mean, how many rock bands had a drummer that was a frontman? You simply cannot take your eyes off, from him! And isn't just the act, or how funny he was, or the crazy faces that he made. Besides, it was an outstanding drummer!
    Must be such an experience to be able to see The Who in 1970. They were on their peak, back then!

      100 % agree Textbooks Watchlist. Moon is still (always will be) the best I've seen/heard on drums. Yes, Bonham was awesome & Buddy Rich was a great jazz drummer but Keith Moon was an extension of a drum kit. Glad this concert video is getting many views & likes........so anyone who has never seen them Live can appreciate the incredible sound of The Who !

    • @ianfreud
      @ianfreud 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      stringtension But without Moon would The Who been The Who? It’s symbiotic. Moon was actually a terrible drummer in terms of technique/timekeeping, but if they’d had a ‘normal’ drummer (and bassist) would Pete’s songs have reached the audience they did. The sheer number of comments on Who vids from people who are here primarily to watch Moon suggests maybe not. The whole is greater than the sum of its parts.

    • @RockmasterVideos
      @RockmasterVideos  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Brilliant analogy Ian Freud, no doubt Pete was the primary songwriter but my oldest Son was fixated on Moon drumming the 1st time he watched this DVD.....as was I.

    • @waterfordrs22

      Rockmaster, there are plenty of better jazz drummers than Buddy Rich. Alvin Jones, Roy Haynes, Jo Jones, Philly Joe Jones, Art Blakey just to name a handful that were arguable more musical drummers with more notable discographies.
      Rich was a massive ego, he was a performer and he did his Schtick in Carson. He was a great showman but so was someone like Jo Jones.
      Mentioning Rich as the poster boy as the standard bearer of jazz drummers, no thanks, too cliche.

    That's right he was on the drums, but there he was the purest soloist. He did not play rhythm, he never could. He did not want to.
    He was hyperactive and played with the music. Many drummers could not do that, they had to submit. Keith never did. Pete wrote the music of the WHO, and Keith was a soloist. He let it really crack. That's the way it was Bonham & Baker went to their music with their tact the same direction.

    Er war ja Hyperaktiv und spielte rein mit der Musik.Viele Schlagzeuger konnten das nicht,sie mußten sich fügen.Keith tat das nie.Pete schrieb die Musik der WHO,und Keith war solist.Er ließ es so richtig krachen.Genau so waren auch Bonham &Baker die zu ihrer Musik mit ihrem Takt die selbe Richtung gingen.

    My grass skirt's lost its green

      The Who in some form or another were together in 1959. By 1962 they were getting solid even with their old drummer. The Who opened for The Stones and The Beatles. By 1964 when Moon joined The Who, they were ready to dominate the stage. Plant stated that as a young lad, that he was blown away by The Who and especially Roger Daltrey who was 5 years older and already a seasoned front man. So Daltrey came first by 5 years.

      My take is this song is about the Strife in peoples lives at the time. The line' poor people on the farms

    • @Mario_DiSanto
      @Mario_DiSanto 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't remember where I heard this from, perhaps I am making it up completely but I have faint memory of hearing Pete explain the story about writing this song in some interview. Supposedly after they played the Monterrey Pop Festival Pete indulged in some Acid he scored in the USA on their plane ride back. He had a bad trip from the acid and desperately wanted to be sober again. Needing water when you really need it is a metaphor for begging to be sober again after a bad trip.
