- Classic Kit Revived Under New Ownership
The BD-4C recently returned to the kit plane stage under the SureWings brand. This provides a more streamlined option for the traditional kit.
The Bede Aviation BD-4 was first developed in 1968 by Jim Bede. The aircraft, designated as one of the first true “kitplanes,” is a four-seat, high-wing plane with a uniquely durable construction. The BD-4’s easy assembly and roomy cockpit make it a popular choice for builders.
Bede Aviation, now run by Jim Bede’s son, made the decision to sell the design in July. Today, the BD-4's legacy continues under a new name: the BD-4C-S SureWings Edition Complete Aircraft Kit.
SureWings was established by Atilla Gahbro during the COVID-19 pandemic. “I called it SureWings,” Gahbro explained, “because in my opinion, I was building something that was sure to perform, sure to be safe, and sure to be economical.”
The BD-4C-S SureWings Edition offers a ready-to-assemble kit intended to simplify the building process. Unlike the traditional BD-4C kit, which allows for extensive customization, the SureWings Edition takes only minor customer input.
For those who prefer the more traditional approach, Bede Aviation continues to offer partial or complete kits of the BD-4C
“Everything will move forward with the best of both worlds, under two different companies that are subsidiaries of Gratia Aero,” continued Gahbro.
The sale of the BD-4 design to SureWings marks an exciting new chapter for the iconic aircraft, blending its classic design with modern convenience.

I Rember seening the lined up At OSH and they definitely were spacious and fast
I wish the windshield could have a more rounded look. It just doesn't have a nice look as it's old school homebuilt look.
Check out the BD5 homebuilders page, I believe there is a curved mod available.
Looks like an homemade afriväcan built😁.
But i bet its an awesome plane, besides the looks
With the Cybertruck being a thing, perhaps this styling will catch on
