    I have the Fuji X-M5 (not preproduction) and I’m using a Sirui Sniper and Sigma 18-50 f2.8. My AF is working well. Its not Sony level (I own a FX6, FX30, A7S3, A7C2) but in my opinion, it works. AF for photo works, tracking works in video and touch focus mode works without hunting. Overall, your test is not good and your opinion is proven wrong.

    • @MarcAdesso
      @MarcAdesso  หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's great to hear that you're having good luck with it- as I said in the video, it's possible the X-M5 I tried wasn't final. Although I am also curious how well it's working since you say it's not in the ballpark with Sony. Is it still hunting with moving subjects? Does the tracking get lost?

    • @iamalexchua
      @iamalexchua หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @ There is a delay when it comes to locking AF especially if you want your AF to be instant like when you set everything on max like a Sony but if you want that long focus pull effect, then the XM5 does that in video. No hunting or pulsing with my unit. In photo mode. The AF bites really fast. No pulsing, no hunting. And I am using third party lenses here. So buy the product first, test it and if its not up to your ballpark, then trash it. Not the other way around.

      I totally get that- like I want the XH-2 and XH-2S to compete with the other brands, Fuji cameras are so fun to use...but if you can't get images in focus reliably, that makes it less fun...let's keep our fingers crossed that Fuji does knock it out of the park with this upcoming firmware release!!

    Did you have any issues with random restarting. Even while shooting video?
    Also during photo shooting while zooming. And when changing settings the lens resets.
    I contacted my retailer and they advised me to return it. But there is no stock anymore so i will not have a new xm5 anytime soon.

      Not sure where you're located, but the production models haven't come in stock in the US yet. That said, I didn't notice any issues like you mentioned when I played with the camera- unfortunately, it sounds like you got a defective unit...

  • @lionheart4424
    @lionheart4424 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

    1. You would need to verify the specific firmware version of the X-M5 you tested.
    2. Your test is not conclusive nor exhaustive.
    3. The firmware release is still a rumor. Officially only the video AF fix us coming to X-H2, X-H2s.
    4. People have also been saying that GFX has an AF performance similar to the X-mount cameras so issue is clearly software.
    And look, yes, Fuji should get their sh*t together and fix their subject tracking, but this can only be labeled as clickbait when your whole argument is based on a rumor.

    • @MarcAdesso
      @MarcAdesso  หลายเดือนก่อน

      The title of the video is 'Looks like...' not 'definitive and exhaustive test proves...' And then I think your argument is that Fuji would update older cameras and not include the improved firmware update in its newest camera, ostensibly being released within days of said firmware update? Not sure how that tracks?
      I can also tell you from actual, hands on experience that the GFX does not focus as fast as the latest X-series cameras- the bigger sensor means longer scan times. But for medium format, the latest GFX AF is pretty impressive, and a pretty significant jump forward from other past and current (Hassy, ahem) MF cameras.

    I'm really puzzled at exactly what you were focusing on! The persons head? The box was likely moving as the scene was busy. Ironically, why would you use tracking in a test like this, when Face Eye would have been better? I tested tracking the other day on the release firmware, and while I have yet to do more extensive tests, it seems fine.
    I've done countless videos on this too, and simply not found this as an issue, if anything the tracking is too sticky. It can have issues with low contrast subjects too.
    There are issues with the AF, but I feel you really have not demonstrated enough here with a few seconds of footage, where the camera was in full auto mode (the AI here tries to guess what the scene is so affects how it focuses and performs)
    Really, you need to test in manual mode, state what settings you have set. I get that fuji AF needs setting up for a scene, and this to some is a problem. I'd love to borrow a Sony camera for a month to see how I get on. My ZV-1 was great for AF, but not that much different to fuji cameras!
    I bought an X-M5, after testing one with the fuji rep at my local camera store. I was able to demo some of the issues the AF has, but these were more when 2 faces are in the scene, and the camera locks onto the wrong one. This applies to other cameras, but some, like my Lumix S5iiX can let you select the face you wish.
    Essentially, I do not think what you have done here is a realistic test.

    Dumped my X-H2s for wildlife and birds for my old OM-1 the new firmware on that is very good. I'm wondering if the X-trans sensor isn't the problem, I'm just thinking out loud, but who knows.
