If you want a supplementary to Double Nickels, I highly recommend the documentary on the Minuteman, We Jam Econo. It is seriously one of the best rock documentaries ever made! It goes into the band's history and legacy, their philosophy and the punk culture around the time.
If you want another supplement- Check out Michael T. Fournier's book ("Double Nickels on the Time"), part of the 33 1/3 book series. He interviewed Mike Watt and George Hurley and takes you through a song by song , play by play. A lot of great stuff on what went into the making of this master piece.
I love that documentary and the 33 1/3 book. I highly recommend both. I still shed tears when I watch We Jam Econo. It's a powerful story. Lesson: Let your kids explore the things they love doing.
From Wikipedia: “The album was named Double Nickels on the Dime as a reaction to the Sammy Hagar song "I Can't Drive 55," a protest against the federally imposed speed limit of 55 miles per hour on all U.S. highways in place at the time. Minutemen decided that driving fast "wasn't terribly defiant"; Watt later commented that "the big rebellion thing was writing your own fuckin' songs and trying to come up with your own story, your own picture, your own book, whatever. So he can't drive 55, because that was the national speed limit? Okay, we'll drive 55, but we'll make crazy music."”
Hello millennials! I come in peace. A double album means 2 discs with 4 sides. Ex: London Calling, Zen Arcade, and Double Nickels on the Dime. 4 discs would have 8 sides. Carry on.
I’m what you might call a “zoomer” and I know this. I guess that’s because this guy made that mistake. Fair enough though. He might not have much experience with vinyl
Unpopular opinion but I didn't like the record. It's just too disjointed for me, too many ideas, too many songs. I found myself enjoying the individual songs much better, which I thought were gems: History Lessons II, Corona, Take 5, D, Do you want new wave or do you want the truth? All of them reminded me of a Raymond Carver or Charles Buwoski, everyman American, with every day concerns who has can express it beautifully, with a Velvet underground musical background. The ideal record with have been a 15 songs(Bee thousand style).
@@curly_wyn "Zen Arcade" is a fantastic album. I'd cut two songs (one of them the finale), sure. And it's not to the level of "Double Nickels," for sure.
One of my favorite albums. I can't help listening to this over and over again
Same!

One of the greatest albums ever recorded. Maybe the greatest American band to ever exist. And really cool dudes, too. R.I.P. D. Boon.

Side Chaff
Chaff - Leftover corn husks and seeds
Side Chaff is the leftover songs put together for the heck of it
Thank you! He kept knocking it but it’s described by the title of the side.
Love the Minutemen
Awesome video as always! Keep it up!
They weren't taking the 10 to San pedro.
The 11…..a Zero was added later

Thank God Spot didn't do the engineering on this album. he would have sullied it up for sure

M&M Weekly Jon reviewed it go to ARTV and watch it and yes the album is...... TRASH
Not a road trip record?
Oh my, I beg to differ.
Drove cross country with the cassette on repeat.

@@bredbasket Because millennials don't know about vinyls
We didn't need you
Oh hey, it’s the best punk album.
Huh,
Same score given by Scaruffi.
Who would've thought?
But seriously,
This album is that good.
a 7+/10 from him is like a 9-10/10 for everybody else
Awesome video. It’d be great to see a misfits episode.
Two discs, four sides.
Husker Du's Zen Arcade is better fight me.
Nah! This is much better...
Double Nickels better than Zen. I love Zen ,but in 1984 "Let It Be" better too.

That's the idea. It's a child of the White Album and "Trout Mask Replica."
But that bloated, stupid “Zen Arcade” album is good, right? Lol
