I can understand people thinking Harlaand should have had the Ballon d'or after winning the treble and in any other year he would, however the World Cup is bigger and after Messi's performance in the WC, plus having a decent season season in the circus called PSG it would have been a scandal for Messi not to win it.
Another thing which went against Harlaand was he did slightly ghost in the biggest games, but i have no doubt that we'll see him again in the Ballon d'or lineup as hes still so young, although i think Bellingham will win one soon.

It’s honestly a scandal that he won it, Haaland had the better year it’s harder to do a treble than to win a World Cup. The only reason the World Cup is hard to get is because it’s played every four years but if it were played every year you’d understand that it’s more impressive doing a treble and breaking a goal scoring record in a debut season for your club on top of that being the incremental piece to bringing the club their first champion league trophy

The ballon d'or isn't an award for the last couple of months. It's an award given for the last 2 splits of the season as well as the world cup / any other international tournament that happened the year before. He wasn't given the Ballon d'or based of MLS. It wasn't even considered. Haaland is great, at scoring goals. Manchester city won 3 titles. However, Messi carried a country on his back to win the world cup. He scored, he assisted, he dribbled, he controlled possession. The award isn't for "best goalscorer" or "star player in the team that wins the most". The award is for the current "best player".
