- Identificacion de las emisoras que eran parte de la Cadena Telemundo en Puerto Rico en 1980. Transmitiendo desde San Juan WKAQ-TV Canal 12 y retransmitiendo WOLE-TV Canal 12 en Aguadilla. Este video fue obtenido del usuario pannoni 8 como parte de una grabación de un evento boxístico. Este video se publica solo con un interes educativo como parte de la historia de la televisión en Puerto Rico.
Recuerdo que el ultimo programa que transmitian antes del Sign Off, o cierre de transmisiones, era, Telecine de la noche con Manolo Urquiza.
Voz de Manuel Esteban Alegría. Fue el último locutor de cabina en vivo de Telemundo.

Translators on channels 70, 72, 82 & 83...this goes way back. Those channels were deleted nearly 40 years ago! (for many years, channels 70-83 were used for translators in the US)

Today in '22 Telemundo de PR only has 2 translators (not counting the digital space leased from WAPA-TV on their channels in Ponce and Mayagüez reassigned to 2-11 and 2-12) :
W09AT-D in Fajardo (same as in this video)
W28EH-D in Adjuntas
W28WQ-D in Utuado
Most likely these are reassigned as 9-1 (Fajardo) and 28-1 (Adjuntas and Utuado). In the rest of The Island is reassigned from the UHF Channel 28 frequency to 2-1, 2-11 (Ponce) or 2-12 (Mayagüez).

Someone who knows more can correct me if I'm wrong, but "Telemundo" was WKAQ-TV's branding long before the Telemundo network ever existed.
Yes, you're correct, it was the channel's name before being acquired by the NetSpan network who later took on the Telemundo name as a network
... as a matter of fact Telemundo was taken by the original owner of the station Angel Ramos, as before the station opened in 1954 he was owner of the daily newspaper El Mundo, also published on the San Juan sector of Puerta de Tierra, as would the TV station (the building was then known as Smallwood Bldg., in its' place it was built the Smallwood Apts. residential complex).

Actually, Telemundo, both the local station and the network in 2020 are owned and operated by the NBC Universal division of media giant Comcast.
They broadcast a 24-hour simulcast (w/a few local ads) of sister station WNBC (4 New York, NBC's flagship) on Channel 2.3, known as NBC Puerto Rico.
@@syxepop Nice they offer NBC as a subchannel. I'm sure English language stations are hard to come by in PR.
@@ChristopherSobieniak - as a FULL-POWERED STATION there's just another one. Since 2014 WORA-TV (5-1) has been an affiliate of Disney-owned ABC on the -2 subchannel. On January 1st, 2020 since they didn't renew contract with Telemundo, moved the ABC programming to their main 5-1 channel, which is translated in San Juan by WRFB, reassigned to 5-1.
The CBS and Fox affiliates here are low power stations assigned to Aguadilla in The Island's Northwest and almost exclusively seen via Cable TV or Satellite. There hasn't been a CW affiliate in The Island for a few years.

Aunque ahora le veo lógica, no deja de ser extraño ver el 'God bless America' en el cierre de transmisiones del Telemundo original.
Eso no era "God Bless America", era el himno oficial "The Star Spangled Banner", una canción diferente....
Hasta que Super Siete se fue hace un tiempo a su programación 24/7 era requisito poner los 2 himnos nacionales en la Apertura y Despedida de las emisoras.

@@WPM_in_ATL - the Angel Ramos building has being in use since 1968 when Telemundo broadcasted its' first Color program, a music special featuring Spanish "crooner" Raphael (Martos), who I do believe is still active singing in 2022.

Yes but I'm pretty sure they were shut down once the switch to digital television started but that might not be the case, they might be around as a booster system in case of emergency or they're simply low-power transmitting stations in areas the main channel can't reach
Those stations WERE Telemundo's repeater network throught the Island (turned off as the 2009 Digital Conversion). With the exception of the Fajardo and Yauco locations, they were in the central mountainous range.
The FCC took channels 70-83 away in what broadcast engineers could call "The first UHF repack". That was the 800 MHz frequency band. It was reassigned in part to the original cellular phone band as well as early trunked radio systems. By the time the 1980's rolled around, there were no "full power" UHF TV stations in that 14 channel space, only translators. The translators were moved into lower places in the UHF TV band.
