Ha ha, I didn't even bat an eye when he said cigarette lighter. We all old school. And Pepsi is the best. Recently I had a Pepsi taste like a rootbeer. It was odd. It was one can out of a 12 pack. The others were fine. So I contacted Pepsi by email and put in all the numbers off the can for identification. They sent me a nice letter telling me they would inform the distributor. They sent me two coupons for a free 12 can box. I was surprised and delighted. We go through Pepsi..... At least a 6 pack a day or more. So that was 4 days worth,

Haha, I didn't realize they had a new name for it until I watched someone mention it in a video yesterday. I still have a cigarette lighter in my little ole truck that I'm glad is there, as I could (maybe) use it to start a fire some day.

Hey Bob. A guy once told me to turn my fridge that stopped working upside down for half an hour and then turn it back and let it rest for half an hour. Well in an hour I had a working fridge again. Believe it or not it worked. All you got to lose is an hour, give it a shot.. it’s worked three times in thirty years now annnnnnd! It’s worked for others too. Cheers. Mario.

    • @emmettross5222
      @emmettross5222 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

Hi, the upside down trick only works with ammonia type fridges, pretty sure the oil would drain away from the compressor and damage it, if you had that type upside down and then turned it back on with in a few hours

@@itsallaboutjesus8935 the “normal” 12volt/120volt/propane RV refrigerators use ammonia instead of Freon. They have a heater to boil the ammonia instead of a compressor like the Freon systems. They are very sensitive about working if a bit off level. I image the upside down trick is a way to rid the system of bubbles in the wrong place or some sort of vapor lock issue.

I don’t live the van life, but I do a lot of camping. I have two 20 quart fridges that I take with me, one is a fridge and the other is a freezer. I run them both off of solar and It has made me a happier camper! I don’t have to leave my campsite at all to go get ice for the cooler. I bought an expensive rotomold cooler thinking that would make life on the campsite better but it was a pain, too big, too heavy and you still have to go get ice to refill it. Now I can stay out for 2 weeks and just relax and enjoy fishing, hiking and doing nothing but hanging out with nature.

We bought the exact same Fridge a few months ago, and we've already taken it on a 1,800 mile road trip. It's a really good fridge. It's quiet, and doesn't use much electricity. Our only issue with this fridge is that the temperature readout is off by about 8 degrees. We have to set it at 29 degrees to get it to maintain 37 degrees. This is discussed in depth in many of the reviews. I also wish it had handles that were easier to grab. But we love everything else about it - including the price. Good choice - enjoy!

Great review Bob! Glad you showed us that common bottles would stand up inside. That cover, wow! I like how you do the reasoning between the expensive fridges that we should be able to rely on for a long time (many of us can't afford them), and the "cheap" fridges. I'd have to go with a cheap one. I think I'd keep a small ziplock bag of ice inside another ziplock bag, for my insulin. That way, if one day the fridge failed (expensive or cheap) the carefully packed double-bag set up might buy me some time to get more ice til new fridge comes in. Thanks for taking the time to review your new fridge, and the reasons you chose it. Safe travels, hugs and kisses for Cody.

Luckily it had a 2 year warranty; sent it back to Dometic in August 2020 and just got the replacement unit. Took 3 months!!! Dometic replaced it with the latest model CFXS45. This model is warranted for 3 years parts, labor, shipping; and 5 years parts and labor. Even with this benefit; not sure if I would ever buy a Dometic again.... Keep up the good work Bob!

I hit the like as soon as you said we are dying since the day we were borne . I`m 68 and I`ve been saying that for as long as I can remember ! I hope we both last quite a few years longer . Good luck to US !!!

Question first. On your next video, I'd love to know power usage. Big decision factor for me. Thanks for the unboxing! Another option to consider. Definitely getting something before next summer on the road.

I'm using a large Alpicool as a freezer and a Yeti roadie cooler for a refrig. The freezer is big enough to make ice for the cooler with plenty of room for food. I just keep rotating the ice containers so I don't have to buy ice.

I saved this in my Amazon List. When my Dometic goes out in the trailer, I'm yanking it out, building some shelves in the cavity, to slide these in the cavity. May get two, setting one on freezer mode and the other for refrigerator, if that is needed. I'm sure my refrigerator/freezer is over $1,200. I'm with you, thanks for sharing.

I have been using a 43 qt Chinese freezer like that for almost a year. Draws 45 watts! WOW! I will use it to make ice when I hit road. Keep you posted on longevity.

I have a Truck Fridge that I bought based upon your video recommendation a few years ago and have been very happy with it. I hope it continues to preform because I'd hate to have to remodel my rig for a different unit. I require an upright model and they are hard to come by.

I've heard that 9/10, when a typical fridge just quits, it the thermostat. It would be worth investigating if these little frides can easily and cheaply fixed DIY rather than toss them for another $250 replacement. I would almost take a new one apart to see what's inside and identify spare parts to carry.

Hi Bob! The reason you need to keep your fridge upright is because if placed upside down the compressor oil will go to the top and shorten the life of a compressor. Think of a compressor as an engine it has a piston to pump the Freon through the sealed system. Love your videos.

@@nonyabizness.original After learning a little HVAC and refrigeration... I've concluded I might make my own in the future if I was ever to get back on the road. Was wanting to custom build the Danfoss compressor into a low drag tail kitchen/bath storage unit for the truck originally... then latest was for the car. Basically to lower drag in general ideally improving mpg performance and at the least maintaining with the additional load.

Yeah, I went with a cheaper fridge also. I don't live in my van full time so I haven't gotten to use it a ton yet. However, it has worked great when I have. At the price Dometic asks you would think it would come with a 20 year warranty or something like that. I think they have a 1 year warranty which is better than the Chinese ones. However, it is hardly worth paying 2 to 3 times the price for something they are basically telling you they aren't confident will last much longer than a year.

Hi Bob! I bought the Alpicool C20 for $250 and use it for overland camping in my Jeep Compass. Last year while using a Coleman Igloo cooler I must have gone through 50 bags of ice. Finally I bit the bullet and ordered the Alpicool. I only use it on camping trips and road trips but I figure the savings will be quite a bit plus eliminate the aggravation of having to buy ice, wet or soaked food products (even with ziploc bags), emptying the cooler of water and driving to find a store to buy ice. I also bought a Jackery 240 to run the fridge when my Jeep is idle. Hey, good to know about the classes, too. I'm trying to convince my wife we could live in a van but it'll have to be something like the Mercedes Benz Sprinter van with satellite TV service. For myself I could live in my Compass as I have the accessories to live comfortably.

Sounds like the expensive RV fridges are like RVs...seemingly designed for occasional weekend warriors and not full timers! I definitely opt for the cheap route since none of them will be around long enough to be heirlooms!...I had a small crack in the floor of my fridge (different fridge), easily repaired but under warranty, and the company found it cheaper to send me a new one, so I ended up with two. Happy Holidays, Bob!!

Knock on Wood!!! My Dometic CF50 is still running going on 5 years fulltime vanlife. 35*F setting, hooked directly to fuse box. It’s survived 2 round trips to Alaska and the extremely bumpy Haul Road to Prudhoe Bay. Having said this it’ll probably breakdown soon.
