- The San Antonio Police Department teamed up with News 4 WOAI and Education Service Center-Region 20 to produce the SAPD's Civilian Response to Active Shooter training video. This potentially lifesaving video is aimed at showing the average citizen how to prepare for and react to an active shooter incident. Although you most likely won't ever encounter a real life active shooter, it is always best to be prepared.
I'm glad they included a bit about armed citizens. Too many of these videos act like CCW holders don't exist. Still I wish they had said more on the subject, particularly stressing the difference between cover and concealment. Very few objects and walls in a typical office building or retail store will provide strong enough cover to reliably stop bullets, especially rifle rounds.
I agree about cover and concealment, but the average enemy in this situation is not a highly trained killer who will think about shooting through something to get to whoever is behind it. Find a good position with the best cover/concealment/visibility combo you can find, and let him come to you. Going after a shooter, unless you KNOW he's acting solo, can expose you to secondary fire, including by LEOs who might be surprised by you prowling the halls.
@@rickcook3042 True, but there's a reason you pretty much never hear of CCW people getting shot by LEOs in a mass shooting. It's because real life shootouts are usually over fast. Chances are by the time the cops show up, either the bad guy will be down and the good guy will have his gun holstered, or the good guy will be down the cops will have no problem determining who they need to shoot.
I do agree though, that unless you are in close proximity to the shooter, seeking him out is usually a bad idea. Building clearing is ideally not a one-man job.
First one of these that even mentions concealed carry and even gives advice on engaging the shooter. Well done.

Good video! This is much, much better than last year's DHS-released video. The DHS protocol was weak, and expected nothing but weakness from the besieged. One note on this video - the idea of not coming the aid of someone calling for help may make us cringe, but it makes sense from a legal point-of-view. We have no legal obligation to do anything but save our skins; but at least SA gives some advice for those that want to do more.

Well done video. The comments on concealed carry by posters are hilariously misinformed. CCW permit advice was excellent and I follow it as a rule.

Great collaboration video. I like a lot of it. Especially like how the active killer comes in and just starts his massacre.. Too many of these videos show some guy getting all emotional before the rampage. The reality is most of these attacks are premeditated and planned for a great deal of time. The active killer is past any semblance of morality or being reasoned with. It is a time for decisive action. Either to run, hide or fight. That is it.
Not saying Im going to go hunting the shooter, however, running is not in my nature. Find a defendable area.

My girlfriend and I attended an active shooter training class just this past weekend. The class did not involve shooting, it was all classrooms but the information we gained from the class was invaluable. It mostly said if you’re waiting on the response from a 911 call expect your casualty numbers to be above 30. Most shootings take place in a matter of minutes. And very few of the shootings did police actually stop the threat. The killer committed suicide or simply laid down their gun and walked out, many of them leaving hundreds of rounds of ammunition behind. We learned that many of the active shooter situation could’ve been much worse had the shooter simply decided to continue shooting. Most of the people are shot during the first few minutes of the attack and takes place before the police ever arrive on scene
How to be prepared: This is America buy yourself a 45. Caliber, get a concealed weapons permit, and no shooter is gonna bother you.
+Jacob Roy a guy confronted my grandfather last year and he pulled out a 45. Cal stop him right there. They save lives. A couple weeks ago there was another shooting in a night club. After he shot 2 people someone pulled out a concealed weapon and killed him. They save lives. And if you don't want to use a gun then go call SOMEONE ELSE WITH A GUN to save you. Aka police. And risk your life rather than try to save it. Your choice, but trust me I'm choosing to save myself.
+Jacob Roy on lol I thought you meant carry in general sorry mate. I prefer a Glock 19 myself. Maybe even a Glock 43 still chambered in 9x19 but concealable. 45. Is kind of a higher cal. but it works from what I've seen. I would be much more comfortable with a 9mm. Cheap ammo and that's what I shoot the most often. Easier to handle also.

Yep. That whole "Don't bring a knife to a gun fight" is a real thing. If they have a gun, you want your own gun to shoot back.

Well done video. Now please update the medical portion. We don't advocate elevating extremities as it's a complete waste of time. Please look into the First CARE Provider training and publicly accessible Trauma kits with Tourniquets.

This ia a great video, but I am really shocked by what a group people posting below are calling this video and the Chief and that is "a lame ass", you are the ones who would be crying on TV "OH HE WAS A GOOD BOY, SO HE KILLED 10 PEOPLE HE ALWAYS CAME HOME TO MAMA AND BROUGHT HER FOOD" or some other "lame ass" statement, you are also the ones who call 911 crying like a baby when something does happen to you because the thugs you hang out with have turned on you .. and there are so many of you that spoke of the laws like "I didnt think a chl could bring a gun to work" check it out dude you would be shocked what a well informed CHL can and will do, as a CHL holder Iam prepared, yes prepared by taking classes at least twice a year, building on those classes and practice often ..
