    Ridley Scott took the original "Alien" screenplay on in 1979 as a challenge - How to take a science fiction B-Movie script and turn it into something spectacular - which he clearly did with art direction and great acting from a relatively unknown cast. That basic monster movie in space was given the "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" treatment and using H.R. Giger's concept was the genius move! Ever since, they have scrambled to create a narrative that matches the power of that first film. Tough to achieve.

    cant believe that Ridley switched focus due to the lack of xeno. the alien tag was dropped and it began to intrigue for all of the films flaws the mythology behind the engineers 223 and the elders, the mural and its characters made us love this film as to where it is going but back to the xeno. scott was right the xeno done. where are the prometheus answers? the fans of this film will soon be heard. soon as the us release is out. then it will be time.

      "Prometheus" answers in ALIEN: Awakening, for sure because is happening before COVENANT (and of course in that no xeno, but maybe neomorphs. But more Engineers)

Evangeline almost never looked like she had any makeup on in "Lost" and always looked super hot.

    Elizabeth Shaw's story from Prometheus to Alien Covenant is about the state of replicated absence being an intended hostility versus original absence being hostility that isn't intended; Elizabeth Shaw should have been the lead character in Alien Covenant

    • @sodalitia
      @sodalitia 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      She is. Where do you think alien came from? She is the mother.

    • @thomashcullen8669
      @thomashcullen8669 7 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Shaw's story of waiting to meet the Engineers is what Alien Covenant should have been, not her just being a footnote. 20th Century Fox had the ability to make a great sequel to Prometheus, telling a story about the importance of symbolism and about the reaction to knowledge being needless. Covenant's actual story about Daniels and David is technically logical, but it's also pointless

    • @Randymountaine
      @Randymountaine 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The alien which was birthed from Shaw's stomach was a queen. (Where do you think the eggs came from)
      Shaw may not be in the films directly anymore, but if David is the father Shaw is without a doubt it's mother.

    • @Nemoticon
      @Nemoticon 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      No... Shaw had nothing left to tell. Prometheus was her story and it ended exactly where it should have. Everything else that had to be explained for Shaw after Prometheus should be done in dialogue. The rest can move on unhindered.

    • @thomashcullen8669
      @thomashcullen8669 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      David's theme is about the discrepancy of a creator wanting to know his creation when that same creator wants to stop other creators from knowing their creation - or about the inability to know reality's beginning - which of course is an important idea, but maybe it's not necessarily an idea which has to oppose Shaw's story: Shaw wants to know reality's beginning, and perhaps the problem is that the inability to know reality's beginning has to be an overcome obstacle at the expense of David's story. It's very possible that Shaw's story is logical, but at the same time being a type of logic that isn't able to co-exist with the philosophical underpinning of David's story

  • @mortalmars3881

    *sigh* I wish Ridley would have just followed his original vision for the prequels. I get people wanted the Alien, but I felt Covenant suffered for it. It just felt so rushed, and all the answers people wanted from Prometheus are now left unanswered and the answer that Alien fans never asked for has left them dissatisfied.

    Ridley Scott completely missed the point IMO. People weren't frustrated with Prometheus because of a lack of the Xenomorph, they were annoyed because the screenplay was potentially great, but was sabotaged by some stupid storytelling choices.
    I was so looking forward to seeing the Engineer world... I didn't want an Alien slasher-movie re-make.

      gorillapancake I agree man 100%, so disappointing knowing that we will never see what this sequel was originally intended to be. Shaw was such a great lead and her story was so interesting. A damn shame. We could have got a genre defining movie but instead left with a generic wannabe. Ridleys lost it.

    prometheus SPOILERS Really wish fans wouldn't complain.
    in 20 years kids are goingto come to the alien series and watch it in order. These people aren't going to mind there were no xenomorphs in it.
    In fact I thought not having xenomorphs pushed them to 1) make an interesting movie and 2) find new things that are frightening.
    I found the engineers very scary.
    Fassbender was unbelievable. Noomi Rapace was great. The cesarean scene was crazy.
    The thing that freaks me out the most everytime I watch it is the ship rolling over Vickers.
    And then the giant squid with the engineer.
    Can't say enough good stuff about that film.
    Covenant was great too. I think prometheus was my favorite of franchise.

    After Prometheus I wasn't expecting much from Covenant but I went to see it because, well, It's an Alien film. Still left the cinema shaking my head! I think this film undermines a lot of the stuff they tried to set-up in Prometheus & even further undermines the original Alien movie. It's a friggin mess to be honest!! :-/ I think the journey from where we are now to Alien & the LV426 derelict, and whoever or whatever was piloting it, is going to be an absolute train wreck!! So much about Alien: Covenant bugged the hell out of me :-(

    Ridley really doesn't understand what made the original movies and concept of the Xenomorph so mysterious and frightning. I thought the space jockey being revealed in Prometheus as a bald albino in a space suit was lame but what they do with the origin of the Xenomorph in Covenant is unforgivable. Terrible.

I liked alien covenant because of scott's direction and visuals, but I feel the script needed more work.

    I respect Ridley Scott. I love the Alien franchise. I do not, however, enjoy learning about the origin of a monster I find very frightening and fascinating. Knowing more about the "beast" makes it less scary, period. If you want a great Alien storyline play the game, Alien: Isolation; you're trapped on a ship with the creature(s), surviving any way you can.
    I guess I'm just complaining. Covenant was great as a run-of-the-mill action flick.

    Great production, music, cinematography and great actors. Fassbender played two ROBOTS characters that were different and yet similar enough to be believable! It was impressive. My only problem is that (SPOILERS):
    All humans characters (asides from Daniels and Tennessee) are too dumb to be true! Holy christ I was pinching myself to stay quiet in the theater... ''DON'T... well he did it. Now he's dead.''

    Best Summer of Block Busters since 1984, this year, was cancelled as we all know; all movies were cancelled/moved to 2018, 2019, 2020, so this Alien might just get enough room at the box office as there is nothing really to watch before July. Maybe it can bring in $500M worldwide, hopefully more, it is an excellent continuation of the franchise.

    In my country Alien movie series is unkown to many and I doubt many ppl know what a xenomorph is if I outright ask them about it. I watch first alien long ago and I too liked it but I was equally curious about the crashed ship with those eggs. Large size and structure of the exosuit of the dead alien on cockpit was awesome and entire movie I wanted to see that ship functional and how it actually looked like before it turned into ruins. Movie was fun but that image burned into my mind.
    Whoever designed that magistic set had some serious imagination. I was happy when in new movies it was going to be explored and I could see how those pilot ( engineers) looked. I am not interested in Xenomorph at all. It could have been anything in the old movie. Tell me about the marooned alien pilot. I watched new movies like star trek and small things didn't bother me. I don't know who are these people who like xenomorph. Its a velociraptor plus lizzard that's it. These new movies had some balls to explain the origin of life on earth like those history channel's ancient aliens do. I know its stupid but you must agree they fooled many of us first time. Good to see the concept on screen tho.

    I hate the fact they listened to the social media and brought back the xenomorphs. I mean, I like xenomorphs, but I don't want them to be there just because some people are too obsessed with their nostalgia and reliving the past. I think we can all agree the major audience doesn't give a shit about the Alien universe and all, they just wanna be entertained. And the studio realises it, cause they only think of the money. I haven't seen the film yet, and it might be great, I'm not saying it won't be, but I just hate the decision they took in making it. If it ends up terrible, I'm gonna blame those people, who whined about xenomorphs. It's the same shit with Star Wars. People, who only loved the originals whined so much, they got their wet dreams fulfilled in The Force Awakens, and nobody gives a shit that film ignroes even the laws of the SW universe, and tbh is outright dumb and disrespectful. What's happening to the modern generations with nostalgia and all? I'm so sick of them affecting the industry so much. Grow up already, and learn to live in new times, stop dwelling in the past. I'm also being nostalgic from time to time, but I don't want it tacked-on in new films, it just turns art into the catering of public.
    Update: I saw the film yesterday, and I think it's garbage. The trailer looked like a generic alien slasher, but it's very deceptive, so I got the wrong impression. In reality it's not even a film about xenomorphs, nor does it answer any questions raised in Prometheus. It's full of action and plotholes and doesn't feel like a horror film (unless you're afraid of gore). I don't wanna spoil, but it just ruins the Alien universe for me, not only by contradicting other films in the series, but also by introducing new ideas that break the horror of the original Alien and the sense of discovery of Prometheus.

    • @rayisdashit
      @rayisdashit 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah. I agree. That's why people like you should have had an alienless prequel, and the fans of the lore could have had Neil Blomkamps film. But no. We get this shit.

      +GSS765 I was afraid of this ever since I saw the trailer. It looked like a generic Alien sequel, where it's just aliens killing people. Still I think I'm gonna see it, when it hits the cinemas here. Or maybe not. Depends on how lazy I'll be :D

    • @PyroNexus22
      @PyroNexus22 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Raymond Daniels in fact, why wouldn't the studio capitalize on what Disney, WB and Legendary are doing: hire a bunch of directors and crews to expand the Alien universe in both ways (with sequels and prequels)? I'm not really a fan of cinematic universes, but I think all their problems stem from the fact they are connected by a single plot. If you make films in the same universe, but with a huge time gap between them, you wouldn't have such problem, as you'd only have to follow the general lore. And in case of Aliens, the lore of xenomorph films wouldn't interfere with the prequel films, so the directors and writers would have huge artistic freedom. That way everybody would be happy, and the studio would get their money too.

    still don't understand why the first 80% of the movie was so good and the last 20% so cliche. Too many characters making idiotic decisions. They should have stayed on the engineers' planet as not to risk the colonists' lives.

  • @yaso9aga
    @yaso9aga 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    I feel the same way ...
    Ridley Scott is idiot...
    If David created the alien eggs, what were they doing on the Engineer ship in the original Alien?
    Alien: Covenant’s big reveal is that the acid-packed “Classic Xenomorph” was bio-engineered by David in his man cave. But Covenant takes place just 20 years before the original Alien. So, if the facehugger design was knocked together by a deranged robot in the recent past, how did the ancient Engineer ship in the first movie come to be packed with eggs?
    The Engineer space-jockey is clearly far older than David. So why is his craft loaded with unhatched facehuggers which, as per the official post-Covenant timeline, were created a mere two decades years before the Ripley and crew touch down on LV-426?

    • @yaso9aga

      they already wanted to kill her off before the choice of change and involving the xeno back in, there is a leak of the original script from prometheus 2, called paradise and it mentions it in explizit detail, just like in covenant. freakin love that someone with blind faith gets bitten in the ass by someone she thought was her friend, tough shit. Ridley is genius

  • @Dan-ky5es

    I love how Ridley is CONSTANTLY saying "Prometheus was a very successful film." YEAH, because people don't pay on the way OUT, simple. And then he tries to slide it in there that social media informed him something was missing (i.e. Xenomorph) no, it was just a shite story, even if the Alien had been part of it...which some form of it was in the end. It was meant to provide answers...but only made more questions. And now Alien: Covenant (deliberately marketed as an Alien movie now) is an apology. Prometheus made a lot of money (whatever) but it's a shit movie lol so ultimately NOT SUCCESSFUL.

    • @Genevasplaytime

      I'm yet to see Covenant, but I take it from your comment that you're not impressed with it. Don't get me wrong, I said Covenant is his apology for Prometheus, however... I didn't say it was an apology accepted lol. I'm seeing it tomorrow and I'm already aware of it not being that good.

    • @Genevasplaytime
      @Genevasplaytime 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dan24 Prometheus was a great film, great cast, amazing effects and sound, mysterious and interesting story about creation and destruction, good soundtrack, amazing creature design. But you moan about it like its crap! And now ridley got all insecure and made this.....

    • @Dan-ky5es
      @Dan-ky5es 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeeesh, clearly you define great too easily if you regard something like Prometheus as "great". Alien is great. No doubt, the soundtrack good, effects good, cast good etc. but you miss the main thing haha which even Ridley admits...the XENOMORPH. Prometheus was meant to be about the creation of the Alien, not humanity, that's why most went to see it, otherwise why link it to the Alien crest,...because it wouldn't be worth talking about were it not connected "mildly" to Alien. And now Alien: Covenant, he's even said, is a chance to make up for the fact it didn't have the alien lol, which is why he's made sure for deffo that this one firstly says "A L I E N: - -" so folks KNOW it's actually about the alien this time and not about humanity. It's simple. I saw Prometheus when it came out and honestly wouldn't have minded were it NOT connected to Alien (because it barely even references it, and the parts it does reference it only leaves questions rather than provide answers which is what it claimed it originally set out to do and failed.) But, ultimately the majority aren't wrong, Prometheus is Pro-meaningless basically because it has a muddled story. It's one of those films which sounds better as an idea rather than as a full-fledged film, clearly.
      BUT saying that, if you enjoyed it personally then good for you, just don't confuse your own personal favouritism with the majority who don't deem it a good film. Alien: Covenant I fucking hope is good because I want it to be good, but, judging on what most are saying about it I doubt it, who knows, I may still like it more than most...

  • @darj617

    The artist's job is not to give the audience what it wants, but to create what the audience needs. Covenant is fan-service, a greatest hits compilation neatly packaged with a CGI bow. It's kinda sad when a great filmmaker just sees movies as a corporate cash crop.
