I enjoyed watching this video! I wished I could have ridden the original CZ on the WP route, but this gives me a glimpse of what the route was like. Thank you.
That was their claim. That was what many people remembered. It was the better scenery - all choreographed by a schedule that highlighted it in daylight hours. Nuff said?
The statement the train was losing money was an excuse the Western Pacific used. They were a weak and failing railroad. They were being squeezed by declining freight revenue from the Santa Fe, UP, and Southern Pacific.
Wow! That takes me back to 1955 when I took it to Chicago and back. I loved it.

I rode the zephyr in 1967 from Stockton to Denver. A great memories!

back in the 1960s I was a Vista-Dome traveler.. Chicago to Glenwood Springs Colorado.. for winter travel to Aspen.
Great video.
Thanks for watching, the old California Zephyr was a beautiful train!
Choo choo
Why can't we have this now?

It would be nice. So would Slat Lake to Los Angeles through Las Vegas. That would take a lot of cars off the road.
Trust me. I am going to teach Amtrak and the FRA in 2025 ;)
I like videos of commercial passenger trains before Amtrak

Most talked about train in the USA? Really?
I'd say the Super Chief would be ahead of the Cal Zephyr along with the 20th Century Limited.
