Of all the things to worry about when traveling alone in a different country, this is my number one fear. I have GI issues and I am very nervous about being in an "emergency" situation on the trail. I know my body well enough to know that it will shut down while traveling (for me, 36 hours before I get to St Jean) and I will be on the trail the next day after arriving so not a lot of time for my system to acclimate, let's just say. I am hoping that when the switch goes on I'll at least be at an albergue (Orrison is the first one). Thanks for making this much needed video! There are some tips on other videos but this is the first one I've seen specifically addressing this topic. You might want to add a link to the probiotic you took!

The visual of your description of toilet paper everywhere on the side of the trail is disturbing. How does one ignore that and still have the walk?

My wife and I were shocked at the amount of toilet paper trailside on our 2019 Portuguese Camino de Santiago. Obviously nature calls when nature calls, but boy, what a mess at every place that offered privacy for folks who needed to “go.” Yes! As you mentioned, please carry small ziplock bags and place your toilet paper in it and dispose of later and, yes, pick up after yourself the way you would your dog. And yes, patronize the businesses and buy something small when using their toilet. And no, don’t take toilet paper out of their WCs to have on the Camino. This is one topic rarely discussed in the many, many Camino videos but one that is important. Bom Camino!

I guess ladies can use an umbrella as "protection" when "go natural" on the trail, people might see the umbrella but not you haha...

You could mention the use of FUDs for women. Something like a P-style. It saves the use of TP and all those plastic bags, plus it allows women to go with out taking down their pants.

Cheap Camino food is bread, bread and bread also perhaps some more bread. This really constipates. I picked up some "healthy" cookies that had a message saying that eating too many of them might work like a laxative. "Thank God!" I thought.

My only toilet problem was in Sarria where a bunch of insensitive young girls commanded the only two bathrooms of the albergue one morning. The trail was crowded because of Holy Week, so it took some time for me to find a somewhat private bush.
