If you're in need of a new pair of running shoes, definitely consider giving Altra a try. The zero-drop design is so much better for you than the inclined heel that so many shoes have. I am for sure going to make a video of shin splint prevention :) Thanks for watching!
Nice video. I find the best way to stop blisters is to wear merino wool socks. They work EVERY time, especially the Darn Tough brand. Thanks again! (hoping to walk the camino in autumn 2022)
Hi great video … was so please when you stain injinj toe socks as I have just brought some! I can’t find the link I referred to incomments for these please can you send me it so I can check I have the right ones. Also can I put a no show low profile sock over the top of the toe sock .. I have some from Falke. Or can I where to pairs of toe socks instead? Final question - what’s your thoughts on sandals? I have Keen Clearwater’s that I was going to alternate with my trail shoes but worried that feet will get wet in them ..
The very last day on the Camino it rained like crazy & I could have used them, but really, I was happy with my shoe choice because they were so light. I ended up just getting creative and putting plastic bags on my feet as a makeshift waterproof later between my shoes and socks. Not perfect, but it was only for one day of walking!
I don't, Lynette. I used ice to treat them & stretched standing up with my toes on the floor (like a ballerina), leaning slightly forward. I'd keep my other leg bent and would hold onto something for balance.
Planning and have been training since July for 2022 Camino-France…. But hear that testing..vaccines…Spain very strict so advice in best way to find out about flights & way to get lowest price 1 way over as I plan on spending additional time possibly before & after. Hear 1 girl report on her blog that she & friend got ticket w/numerous stops & was way less than min. Stops. Coming from MS or TX. Walking sticks…. did you take 2 or of socks or ? And how did you wash and get all the Vaseline off or didn’t worry as it would be on feet every time anyway ?????? 100% no vac. / test…. Best way to find when to go? What time of year did u go?
You had better not watch an Italian video; you would have a stroke. I have watched several of Alex's videos and I never even noticed the hand gestures. Now that you mentioned it she does use a few but then she is such a charming person who speaks so clearly and with such precise language that it is a pleasure to listen to her.
@@alex-wittman I hadn't even noticed. You are doing very well. Talking about English online, well our school is totally online now, as all schools in Portugal are closed at least until the end of January. Then they will see but everyone expects them to remain closed for a while. My wife is an expert at teaching online and must be doing about four hours a day (at the age of 74). I have only one class of four bright teenage boys. We use Zoom. What do you use? At first I had difficulty in using it but my wife really helped me out. I like it even better than in-class teaching because the students don't wear masks (I can hear them better), I can use the Pearson Gold Experience B2+ book online with the videos and listening and, most important I can share anything from the internet to make the class more interesting. I am quite excited about it.
@@rayvogensen2983 I don't teach English online anymore, but when I did, I taught with a Chinese company called VIPKID. They have their only classroom portal platform. I'm actually going to be sharing my experience in tomorrow's video if you're interested. Even though it was tough at the start, I'm glad to hear you've adjusted to teaching online. I'm sure your students are very grateful to still have your instruction despite the current situation.

I need to hear more about these shin splints! Also, looking into those shoes, thanks for the info!

Well done! I really want to do this one day!!

Merino wool! Thanks for the tip!
Yep. vaseline and 2 sock layers...... 3 Caminos and no blisters for me. Don't forget the hiking wool!
Thanks for watching, Rob! Yes, the material of the sock can definitely make a difference!
Great info!
Thanks! I am glad you found it helpful!
Thanks for watching! When are you planning on walking the Camino de Santiago? Let me know in the comments!
Very helpful
Glad it helped!

yes want to know about shin splints
Very informative video! Did you at any point feel like you needed waterproof boots for the journey?

Do you have a video on how to treat and/or avoid shin splints?

I went once in September and once in October! I think September (after Labor Day) is a great time.
How do you wash the vaseline-soaked socks? Do you just discard them?
At the end of the walk, I threw them away. During the walk, I did the best I could to was them.
@@alex-wittman thank you Brunette, se you in the camino!
And what was total weight of loaded backpack & did you carry the whole Camino???
I think it was probably right around 10 pounds--perhaps a little more with water.
A documentary on the walk: "Europe In the Middle Ages," Season 1, Episode 2.
I will check that out, Robert!
irritating. too many hand jesters. couldn't watch it.

Thanks, Ray! An old habit from teaching English online 😅 I'm glad to hear it doesn't bother you!
