- In a world gone mad, the river is a nice place to escape. Chad Coble and his son Mathew join Lil Man, Ryan and me for a much needed and enjoyed float on the Haw River, NC. We found hidden treasure on an island, peace in a hammock and and afternoon of fun under perfect skies. Come along for a fun, relaxed run on the Haw River, NC as we kayak from Swepsonville to Saxapahaw NC.
Special thanks to Ron King for the amazing drone footage. We recently met at the World Paddling Film Festival in Saxapahaw. He can help you out with all your aerial media needs. Check Ron out at at ronkingmedia.com
Special thanks to Evan Spiher for use of his awesome poem! Stay tuned to see more of Evan on the river...

That knife is one heckuva find! How awesome to be able to share the river with the kids…lifetimes of memories for sure. I love Evan’s poem too…amazing that he encapsulates so much with so few words.
Yes sir Austin! That poem was awesome!
Ryan is a sweetie! Loved her enthusiasm in this, awesome!! Watch out though, her interviewing chops are pretty strong!! She's gonna take your place, if you don't watch out!! lol
I noticed that too!! Thanks Brother!
Well, look at that! A video on the water where EVERYONE is wearing a life jacket! Well done! :)
Great shots Ron.
Thanks GR!
My heart swelled when she held her paddle up in the I did it pose. Great video
Thanks Amy! Mine too!
Fantastic...
If anyone ever asked me why I paddle or why my son and I paddle I would say -- here... Watch this video...
This is why...
That look from your daughter is so beyond priceless....
Thanks Guy! The time you spend with Evan is priceless! I am glad we have made a river connection! The boys really seem to enjoy paddling together!
Those are the best of days!
Yes sir Bob!
Thanks for sharing your famiky time with us. I bought my fist kayak last summer (recreational pelican) and quickly realized that i was addicted to the water and bought another kayak, this time a Riot. Here we still have ice on thr lakes, but the tidal wateres have opened up. We went out for our fist paddle this past weekend, also to get away from the world gone mad.
Love your videos, ive learned a lot about how to kayak from them. Still terrified of the rapids (even the little ones in this video). Please keep helping us old dogs learn new things (like how enjoy a little rapid and not be scared 😂)
Thanks for sharing. Be well.
Right on Karen! Thanks for tuning in! The rapids get easier as you begin to understand them...Those first years are magical as well. Everything is new and everything is yet to be discovered...
I've gotten to the point now where I don't even enjoy paddling unless my boy is with me. I'm still slowly breaking my daughter in on overnight trips. She's done a 1 nighter. She is the owner of her own brand new vibe this year, so more to come. I see things much differently when they are with me. The smiles, the laughter...it is contagious and everything in my life drifts away.
You are all over it!! I agree 100%
Looked like some good medicine Pete! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks Chris!
Awesome video Pete! You always capture the moment in your videos. They are going to have those memories for a lifetime.
Thanks Dirk!! It is going to be fun to look back on it all!
What a great river, I would love to float with these Kings one day. Amazing video quality and editing... really stepped up in the past years!
Thanks big dog!
Wow thank you guys so much Awesome time!!!
Thanks Doug!
Enjoy these times, they grow up fast
Yes sir!! trying my best!
Nice video. Kudos to the drone driver. Thanks again!
Thanks Dean! Ron King is the drone operator. He is pretty good!
@@RiverKingsKayak Took my new River Kings hat on a 15 mile run on the Dan River on Monday. I think it made me a better kayaker, I know it made me a better looking one.
@@deanharrell2014 🤣😂 that's what I'm talkin about!
Nice! 👋🙂👍
thanks canajian!
The water looks so peaceful. Those are memories that those kids will never forget. Cool video 👍
Thanks Jason!
Love all the drone shots! And No 5 taking the lead right out of the gate! Great family outing! That tandem is sweet!
Thanks Jeff! Wait until you see Sunday's video...P5 and Evan looked like pros on some whitewater! That tandem is basically a 2 man Yukon. It is pretty awesome...
Thanks for the video! That section of the river is one of the best. I truly enjoy the narrated videos. You are a great storyteller. I'll run into you on the Haw or in Sax one of these days. I'm hoping to get on the river over spring break as long as I can still leave the house.
Right on David! I'll be looking for you!
Awesome!!!! Never been on the Haw, would love to follow you down the river one day!
Thanks michael! Do you live nearby?
It's always a good day to float.
Indeed Ben!!
That blue boat would be a nice contrast to the group. Nice vid Pete, I remember my daughter's first tandem trips with me. Great memories.
For sure Matt! Looking forward to getting our trip together asap. Thanks!
Nice video Pete. Glad our paths crossed that day. Hope to be able to share more footage with you in the future.
Thanks Ron! Likewise! I'm sure we will be in touch!
The Queen was a surprise. Great drone footage. Can you tell me a good paddling t-shirt to wear that doesn't chafe my pits?
Thanks Steve! LOL!!! The River King Shirts are the worlds leader in anti chafing technology...
“ In a world gone mad” is right Pete. Great drone footage and another really enjoyable video. I think we share a very similar set of values mate. Cheers and stay safe.
It has been crazy lately. Thanks Tim! Ron King provided the drone footage. Right on!
Thanks for sharing
Hey what age did you start your kids kayaking?
Thanks Double D! They were in my lap in boats at 2 yrs old. Pete got his first sot kayak at 4 yrs old. Made the jump to sit inside when he became a strong swimmer at 8. He started wearing a skirt last year.
River Kings , one more thing what size kayak worked best for Pete. My Grandson 6 y o ready to start him. Thanks
I grabbed a sun dolphin Bali 6 for him at 4 yr old. lightweight and he would just fall off in tipped (though he never did). I moved him up to a Jackson Sidekick which is a great boat and suitable for waterfalls which we will be doing this year. The wavesport fuse 35 is also a fantastic kids boat. It is more of a river runner with a flat hull which is great for river play but can land harder if landed flat due to the flat hull design. All in all, the sidekick is very forgiving platform just like a full size creeker....Hope that helps!
Drones and more sun dolphin kayaks? This is a gatewood brown approved video! Loved the sunset shots and commentary
Thanks buddy! LOL! I love it!
