Tying Tutorial: Shuttlecock Emerger Dry Fly // Top winter pattern for fly fishing

One of my favorite winter dry flies to have in my box for picky trout. Fish it in the river or in the lake, it works great for both!
This pattern is a combination of Olsen's Pliva and Rodrigues' Emerger in shuttlecock form. Give it a tie and let me know how it works for you!

It takes some practice and you aren't fishing at a super far distance. But if you use a small dropper nymph below the emerger you can fish within a 30' range.

One advice I would go somebody starting out is don't crowd the head give yourself room to finish off the fly

How do you fish this euro if it doesn’t have weight? I’ve gotten into Euro but not sure how to fish emergers on my setup

It requires having a nymph on the point and fishing in a dry dropper style. It also takes some practice, but in a pinch it can work well.

If you use a stiff enough leader design, you can throw unweighted rigs, like a dry only, with a euro setup. Range is limited to 20ft or so, but can be great in broken or fast water, where you can approach easily
