To help improve your listening with the can/can't problem, think about the context of what the person is saying and don't ever be afraid to clarify what they have said...you can say "Sorry, did you you mean yes, you can or no, you can't". I can cook badly is not natural. If you can do something it implies that you are good at it. So it is best to say " I can't cook very well",
I’m an English speaker but I somehow ended up here and it’s still really interesting. “Ikin” kinda just blew my mind because it really is like that and I never even thought about it
Hello Ronnie, I am Africa and live U.S. I am studying English and engineering as my major (career) when I came to US, I can't speak English that well especially the pronunciation of 'Can', 'can't' and it meaning, would 'wouldn't' and list goes on and on but due to your teaching in worldwide help me a lot. Thank you so Ronnies
This is simple but difficult to understand. Sometimes I hear the same pronunciation can /kan/ - can't /kan/. And now thanks to you I CAN notice the difference. Greetings from Mexico.
Some of you blokes and lasses have noticed this already but it must be emphasised that for those of us who speak proper English, what we used to call RP, the Queen’s English, BBC English or whatever you prefer, there is a clear distinction between can and can’t. Otherwise the problem may be regionally apparent in the UK and Ireland depending on dialect, and more or less universal in North America, in case no one had noticed.
I would say that the most clear difference for foreigner is that when you say "I can", you pronounce stronger the word "I", and when you say "I can´t", you pronounce stronger "can´t": I can = "I can" I can´t = "i CAN'T"
Would you mind to make another video about can and can't, Ronnie explains so well, I love it, but there are a lot of videos that are not explaining actually the difference between those words very well, actually seems that 'can' is more longer, but the sound is basically the same, the difference is so tiny that is kinda impossible to get it sometimes

Very good. I've taught English in Taiwan for 26 years, and it's annoying how many times I've heard that "can" is always pronounced "kin," and that "can't" is pronounced "can." When you want to be emphatic (say, when someone doubts that you can do something), "can" is pronounced "can." That makes it confusing when the ESL speaker has been taught that "can" means "can't." I've watched several TH-cam videos in which people have taught "can" and "can't" in a way that's a recipe for disaster.
please help me how to have a confidence to speak English...during reporting in classes....i don't like somebody lough at me secretly....its awkward...im not comportable with thing..and how to write essay correctly...or sentences thank you i learn a lot of ur lesson and your so funny..its not boring and teach me how to how to get the attention of the student so that they will listen to you thank you and god bless....

Thanks for the lesson Ronnie, You're a great teacher.
@ainamelas yeah for sure can't must be stressed but you must say the t because if you don't, it sounds like can.
Yes! If you heard people saying it then it must be correct!!!!!
I love the way u teach, Ronnie keep up the good work.

Angel Ayala when someone says fast "I can't do that", I aways understand "I can do that". Ronnie lesson didn't help me because she aways speaks slow.

Manu thanks Ronnie you're good at english
you are right , i was very confused about "i can = i kin " now sloved it.
Thas is not how american pronounce "Can't". They don´t pronounce the T at the end, which drives me crazy.
Yes and me too
In this case you should understand their tone and full sentence first, so you can decide whether they speak can or can’t.
t after n is silent ... its pronunciation of amarican
Yeah, they make a short abrupt "a" sound when pronouncing can't I read of the smother and kind if longer way to say can.
yep I don't understand if they mean can or cannot 🤦🏻♂️🤣🤣🤣
Thank you very much for explaining this. Very nicely

@ainamelas It might be better to say the 't' is not released, but you can actually hear it as the mouth shapes the 't' and it stops the sound.
